Hi all
Has anyone tried installing software with some .pkg after installing SecUpd2020-003Mojave (18G5033)? All installations fail for me.

So I downgraded to 18G4032, tested different installations in .pkg for exemple: Techtools, TeamViewer and also FlashPlayer (not .pkg) and all of them install without problem.

Capture d’écran 2020-06-11 à 13.09.27.png

Then updated again to 18G5033 and after all the installations have failed...

Capture d’écran 2020-06-11 à 13.19.01.png

in few days I will try with a clean install and see if I get the same errors...

EDIT:
Disappointment!
I still have the same error on MBP5,3 after a clean installation of 10.14.6 (18G103) directly updated with SecUpd2020-003Mojave (18G5033)

On iMac8,1 under 18G5033, I just updated Adobe Reader with .pkg I did not have this installation failed...

EDIT2:
I did different tests:
Disabling Gatekeeper: -> Always "installation failed"
Backed up and replaced /System/Library/CoreServices/Content/Ressources/Installer.app: -> Always "installation failed"
Backed up and replaced /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Install.framework: -> Always "installation failed"
So I put the backups of Installer.app and Install.framework in their place and reactivated Gatekeeper. I am confused because now I no longer have "installation failed" and I can no longer reproduce the error, I do not understand what happened...

I thought I was the only one experiencing this as there were no posts about it.

I had an app already installed called Time Machine Editor (link) that I used to tame the aggressive schedule of TM backups and it worked great. The app auto-update kept failing after installing SU 2020-003. So I removed the app and tried installing the new version (.pkg) and got the installation failed as you see - attached.

So far I tried reboots, SMC reset, PRAM reset, reboot to safe mode etc...nothing's worked so far. I thought it was just this app so I reached out to the developer and after a few back-and-forth looking at diagnostic files he didn't have much to add other than he suspects I'll have this issue with other installations - not just his. But I haven't tried any other installations yet.

This is very frustrating.

Edit: Just had Flash 32 installation failure. FWIW I think the installation file was .dmg not .pkg. So this impacts all kinds of installs?

I tried your link for Time Machine Editor and it installed without error. Previously, I did an upgrade for Adobe Acrobat with a pkg installer without any problems. I tried it on both my Mac Pro 3,1 & MacBook Pro 5.,1.

Weird, I can't get anything installed after SU2020-003. Wonder what broke on my iMac 9,1.

I too suddenly have an issue with installing and Validating osxFuse installation.pkg after the new security update 003. Not sure if its related. Maybe its a Keychain Certificate problem !?

I was able to successfully install MakeMKV on a Late-2008 MacBook(18G5033).

On a different note Safari Technology Preview 108 seems to be the last version compatible with Mojave. Anybody knows how to get read of the notification to upgrade to Catalina every time you start a Safari Technology Preview?

What worked for me installing the last few security updates on my iMac 9,1 as they wold fail was to boot into the Mohave patcher enter the terminal enter csrutil disable, then reboot back into the patcher reapply the post install patches-reboot the did a pram reset then tried the update and it worked

Did either of you apply the @alphascorp systemupdate.framework hack to stop the Catalina nagging?

I used a slightly different method than what alphascorp did; On mine I did the following in Terminal:

sudo softwareupdate --ignore "macOS Catalina"
defaults write com.apple.systempreferences AttentionPrefBundleIDs 0 && killall Dock
defaults delete com.apple.preferences.softwareupdate LatestMajorOSSeenByUserBundleIdentifier

Could this have caused the issue?

Don't know for certain but I strongly suspect something in the process of defeating the nagging is involved as it seems all the affected have done this step in one way or another.

Initial suspicion is that this step is responsible: defaults delete com.apple.preferences.softwareupdate LatestMajorOSSeenByUserBundleIdentifier and that installation process checks for this after SecUpdate 2020-003 and that it fails if not found. Just a hunch.

I’m willing to try anything right now, is there a way to undo that process in terminal?

I do not think that it is the replacement of SoftwareUpdate.framework which causes this problem because this afternoon I made a clean installation of 10.14.6 18G103 (using a brand new SSD) then directly updated with SecUpd2020-003Mojave 18G5033 I didn't replace any files or execute any codelines to ignore Catalina before try the first installation test .pkg and I got the error: "installation failed"

Then I did different tests:
- Deactivation of Gatekeeper: -> Always "installation failed"

- Saved and replaced /System/Library/CoreServices/Content/Ressources/Installer.app: -> Always "installation failed"

- Saved and replaced /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Install.framework: -> Always "installation failed"

So I put the backups of Installer.app and Install.framework in their place and reactivated Gatekeeper.
I am confused because now I no longer have "installation failure" and I can no longer reproduce the error, I do not understand what happened...

No longer having this error, I decided to go a little further and replace SiriUI.framework, Siri.app, SkyLight, HIToolbox, AppleGVA.framework and SoftwareUpdate.framework (and running all the lines of code to ignore the Catalina update and remove the red badge) After all this, I still have no error: "installation failed"

Interesting, thanks. Guess there's no point undoing the ignore Catalina process.

I'm still getting the installation failures and I'm out of ideas on what else to try other than doing a clean install of Mojave, but I worry this will come back after applying SU2020-003.

Just an update; After no luck in trying everything I could think of to fix the app installation errors, in a last-ditch effort before a clean re-install of Mojave I ran the maintenance routine in Onyx and to my surprise it seems to have fixed it. I installed TimeMachineEditor without any issues. No idea which of the maintenance items did the trick as I just left it on default settings.

Hi all
Thanks @ATC
I confirm that using the excellent ONYX utility fix the problem:
I just installed 10.14.6 (18G103) on a new SSD, then updated with SecUpd2020-003Mojave (18G5033)
-> installing applications with a .pkg returns the error "installation failed"

Capture d’écran 2020-06-19 à 23.28.35.png

I downloaded and ran ONYX, selected Maintenance and clicked on the Run button.
After the automatic restart by ONYX, the installation of applications with .pkg works.

That's good to hear. Yeah the Onyx app has saved my butt a few times.

Only remaining issue for me is the screen backlight setting is no longer being retained after wake from sleep. This started happening after SU2020-003. I do have @dosdude1's separate backlight patch installed.

It seems to always come back to 75% brightness, which is a little too bright for the room that my iMac's in. It's a weird issue as even after I set the desired screen brightness, if I then go into Preferences - Display and click on the Color tab, it changes the brightness back to 75%. Not sure if it has anything to do with perhaps a corrupt display profile but I've deleted and created new display profiles but no luck yet.

Which model iMac is this?
