Oh, ok cool! I'll get it patched up then! I just hate having to put my old GPU back in to get the boot screen. Ugh.
You do not need to use your old GPU. Dosdude1 has included an option in the patcher called “install to this machine” that avoids using a usb stick. Some pointers for you - I assume you are presently using Mojave and have a metal capable GPU and also the ROM updated to 144.0.0.0.0. As you want WiFi and have not updated the hardware you will have to patch and the patcher will do this for you. Before you start disable SIP. As you will be using the patcher you will have to keep this disabled. The patcher will also ensure that SIP remains disabled. Finally, as the cMP5.1 has built in APFS support before you patch deselect the APFS option in the patcher. This can be found under “options” in the menu bar.

Ah, so I just select the option and just let it do its thing? I have an EVO 840 Pro in there that *is* APFS.

My specs:

Mac Pro 5,1
ROM v 144.0.0.0
Metal GPU Radeon RX580
Samsung EVO 840 Pro w/ APFS
32GB RAM (24 right now, I think a stick might be dying)
Running Mojave right now via Patch.
Need stock Wi-Fi

Just wanna make sure I don't brick my Mac Pro. lol

You should be fine. The cMP 5.1 can run Catalina without patching with just the “ -no_compat_check”. However, as you want to use the old wifi the patcher will deal with this for you. My cMP5.1 is running fine with Catalina and is a similar config to yours. By the way, you can run Mojave without patching. This is the last macOS that the cMP5.1 officially supports.

Thanks for uploading the framework file, but I haven't been able to get it to work. I moved the existing /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AppleGVA.framework/Versions/A to A.old and then copied in the A directory from what you uploaded, and rebooted. But I still get the following from the VDA Decoder Checker after rebuilding it:
Code:
jack@Jacks-MBP VDADecoderCheck % ./VDADecoderChecker
VDADecoderCreate failed. err: -12473
An error was returned by the decoder layer. This may happen for example because of bitstream/data errors during a decode operation. This error may also be returned from VDADecoderCreate when hardware decoder resources are available on the system but currently in use by another process.
VDADecoderCreate failed. err: -12473

There still doesn't appear to be any hardware acceleration in Firefox or Quicktime: only VLC works (as it did before replacing this framework).

Also, I'm now unable to remove the older version of the framework: I get a Read-only filesystem error when trying to rm -r it.

Edit: I've fixed the read only issue by re-mounting the system volume as rw: sudo mount -uw /.

10.15.4 Skype/Zoom Camera/Microphone Security & Privacy Permissions

For some reason apps like Zoom or Skype don't seem to be properly asking MacOS for permissions to use the Microphone & Camera permissions. The strange thing is that I have other apps that are properly asking for Microphone/Camera permissions such as TechSmith's SnagIt 2020.

I was able to find this thread (https://superuser.com/questions/144...e-privacy-settings-in-macbook/1462245#1462245) with others who have a similar problem. I have tried the solution of unlocking sharing & permissions for my user and applying this change to all users, I have enabled SIP by entering csrenable in the Internet Recovery Terminal, and I have even tried the Zoomnonmetal patch.

Has anyone run into this problem? Please help! If it helps, I am running a MacbookAir 4,2 (mid-2011).

Hello, some weeks after installing Catalina with the help of the patcher, my internal SDD (formatted as APFS) is now no longer being recognized on my MacBook Pro 5,3 Mid 2009 (coming from El Capitan). The last times that I booted from the drive, the booting process did not finish but stopped with the progress bar at the end.

How can I proceed now to have my SDD be recognized? Should I try to erase it and format as Mac OS Journaled? How will I be able to reinstall any version of macOS then?

I have a Time Machine Backup of the Catalina installation and a bootable USB drive of Catalina but it doesn‘t work with the Catalina Installer being on the unrecognized SDD. Unfortunately, I don‘t have a second Mac, only an iPad :-(

I’m happy to have found this active forum. Any ideas are very much appreciated!

Best, Ralf

What you requested, sorry it didn't work.

What version of the patcher did you use? This was thought to be fixed a while back. There were also some work arounds before the new patcher fixed this

Updated to the newest Catalina Beta 15.5.5 (19F96) after using catalinaswufix5amfi command (when an OTA notification appeared in System Preferences) in terminal and afterwards post install patches ( from Cat Patcher version 1.4.3).

So far I've not been able to install using the newest patcher/download. Still tinkering with different methods.

I don't get an error. It starts out well, then says it must restart to commence with the install. It shutdown, then reboots right back into 10.15.4.

This is with the "Install to this machine" option. Trying other methods at this moment.

After this pandemic is over, I'm *definitely* gonna shoot some money over to @dosdude1 for his *incredible* work on this. I mean - He's kept my mac relevant for the better part of a decade if memory serves. A true pillar of the incompat Mac community. hahaha
