Easier communication (in my opinion) as it would deliver mobile notifications if some @'s you and you could be up to date with where things are at in some sort of announcements channel.

Are you still working on CloneToolX? You seem to be an APFS God right now ;) so maybe you can help me here: the Catalina image I created a while ago on my pro 3,1 was from a dd'ed image to its 70Gb blank target APFS partition. My original image was from a 63.5GB stick. I ended up with a 63.5 GB partition on the pro 3,1. but I can't manage to re-size it in Disk Utility at all. There is about 50GB of unused space that can only be partitioned into its own volume. Ideally I would like to expand the Catalina partition but I'm stuck with what the original image size was...

I think asr can help you here as it works on different size volumes. I have not tried a DD'd image with asr yet, so let me make one and do a restore using asr and I can let you know if it works.

I'm currently making images with hdiutil and restoring them with asr, but I don't see why dd images won't work because the format is the same.

I will be working on CloneToolX soon, I am recovering from a nasty cold and this is the best I felt in the past week; taking it easy today.

right click on IOHIDFamily hang fix delete the hang fix then open S/L/E then right click on IOHIDFamily.kext-show package contents-open contents-MacOS and replace then one you downloaded :)

your prelinked kernel works on macOS Mojave actually boots a bit faster :)
Hmmm...I hope you meant Catalina ... ;)

Ok .

I'm thinking it has to do with the way I partitioned my APFS Disk. It was initially a full 250GB SSD APFS for Mojave. I shrunk that and left 70GB for Catalina. Needing more space I further shrunk the initial partition thinking I could extend Catalina with it. Guess it ain't how it works...May have to redo this when I have time (or may not once an installer is out)

By the way down with some sort of cold bug too for about a week. Stay well.

Since you're capable of amazing stuff like this, do you think there's even the slimmest chance that you could help in some way to get acceleration... on the MacBook4,1? Honestly, after seeing this and what you and @netkas have done I'm a bit more hopeful that it could actually be possible. What are your thoughts? Maybe @pkouame (the binary patch master) and @TMRJIJ (the 32-bit Mac master) could chip in on this matter?

That's a huge ask. The GMA X3100 and 950 CPU's in those older macbooks lack 64bit support, and the only reason ML works is becauase the first developer beta allowed booting with 32bit kexts. We've tried the 64bit 10.6.2 kexts, they don't work. Asking someone to get ful acceleration on a 4,1 beyond 10.8.x is basically asking them to write compatible 64bit kexts from scratch, and even if they did the GPU would preform like **** on 10.10+ since the GMA GPU's were never very capable in the first place.

Yes, I was thinking that I might need that extra patch since my machine needs it for Mojave. I just do not know how to manually patch it(post install patch using Mojave patcher might target the wrong location I'm guessing).

Post Install Mojave should target the location you manual select, so you can try from there adding only the USB patches OHCI, but don't force cache rebuild! Just reboot without tick the box, because I guess is not fitted for Catalina kernel.

Well THAT'S interesting! The prelinked kernel was created for Catalina on Catalina. I have to wrap my head around that one...

Yes but @TimothyR734 is using the 10.14.6 beta2 kernel, since it's still there /S/L/Kernels/
I also sometimes attempted to use future kext on a previous Mojave version and they worked, I mean the mach kernel automatically try to use the best kext suited for itself, and since Timothy has inside his SLE all the right Mojave kext they win over your prelinkedkernel, just my supposition.

For example verbose mode should show something like "detected wrong kext version, the previous one will be used or the more recent will be used".

After many hours of research, patching, and fighting with Apple's codesinging enforcement, I have FINALLY managed to create a 100% WORKING installer patch for macOS Catalina installers! This will allow you to install Catalina on your system, just like you would on a supported Mac! Download and info can be found here. I will be making another post later today explaining exactly what I did to get this working. Remember, this is the first iteration, so I expect there to be bugs that I'll need to work out. Enjoy!

this is fantastic. Well done!

Wow, that is great! Now we are back in the loop, I think. ;-)

Many thanks, dosdude1

That’s crazy my cold has been for a week too. I missed work all week. They get a little concerned, I do all our IT work and I’m a developer too there.

What you encountered is not a bug. At least I don’t think it is. i ran into it too and no matter how much the dd clones disk was expanded it was locked in at that size and the OS would complain about running out of disk space.

I made a disk to disk clone using asr. Darn thing still checks for space free so disk to disk have to be either same size or small to big. I am sizing the clones disk down and then will dd it. It’s taking a good bit to do the resize. My target ssd’s are all 500gb since hdiutil and asr only copy real data like a datastream.

Gonna let this run.

I’ll be documenting hdiutil and asr ins and outs. I remember using them with the original clonetool, but not with APFS obviously.

I also used ditto and Rsync for file copies and those can still be used on system or home folders but now we have to watch out where data crosses over. Those tools could still be used for full disks but now your dealing with serveral partitions snd Catalina tries to hide the startup volike’s data drive. Ways around it, but hdiutil and asr both can deal with APFS more directly

I need to read up on the APFS inversion. Either it’s bits are backwards or it’s how it stores data, but asr runs a restore, does the inversion then runs through the data copy. It seems to do what it says turning it inside out.

Many thanks, dosdude.
On my MBP5,2, just successfully made a USB installer (a partition on a retired SSD) using your macOS Catalina PartialPatcher.
The USB installer booted fine.
Now I need to find an external disk I can use to install on...

Thank you very much man!, Question, do we have to install some patches like in mojave after install or not?

Is it unrealistic to expect to be able to use the post patcher from a Mojave patch usb installer to apply the correct patches to a Catalina installation? In particular, I am thinking of the Boot.plist Patch, Legacy USB Injector, USBOHCI Support Patch, SIP Disabler Patch, Legacy Audio Patch and Legacy Platform Compatibility Patch. Basically just enough to get working wifi and audio on a MacPro 3,1 with GTX 680.

OH AWESOME!!!

how long till v2 ;)

wait how did u get the light mode for ur nvidia 9400m??
hybrid patches :)

It depends on the speed of your USB drive. Slow drives will take over 30 minutes to complete. (And yes, I will be implementing an actual progress indicator when I release the full version of Catalina Patcher).
So far I am at an hour patching and copying installesd
