I saw that but I never had any remote access enabled on my Mac so why would that show up on my privacy settings page is why I’m confused, do you have that keygen sshd in your privacy pane as well under full disc access?
I have keygen sshd, too. Do you know what it is?

Just updated and hoped that maybe my scanner would work again. Nope!
Also, initial install of BS finally got iMessage working - hoorah! Latest update has broken it again. Yipee.

Apple Watch still doesn't unlock any of my Macs on Big Sur...Just getting the following message:

"Your Mac was unable to communicate with your Apple Watch. Make sure your Apple Watch is unlocked, on your wrist and powered on."

My Apple Watch is unlocked... and open. I wonder if this is going to be similar to last years "External eGPU" problem... hangs around until the next release.
Same. Series 3 on wOS 7.2, iMac 2019 on 11.1 (and iPhone on 14.3) but identical problem.

Unlocking your mac with your Apple Watch has never worked very smoothly to be honest. Had a lot of issues with watchOS 6 as well.

I'm unable to update to 11.1 on my Macbook Pro here, wether using the update process nor the full installer. Full installer hangs at about 60% before rebooting, update using system settings hangs at 10 minutes left.

How come should I go back to Catalina when something like this is magically and without no reason at all introduced in a .1 update?
I was referring to the particular user who I noted over multiple threads does not have a good word to say about the release. I am not saying the release is good bad or ugly ( which it's kinda all three ), it was a genuine question to the user. If I was unhappy with it to that extent, I would plug in my alternative SSD and happily keep running Catalina as I don't have any great desire to be on the latest and greatest if it annoys me so much.

See, genuine question.

I see, no pun intended but I like to move forward and from that perspective I did move to Big Sur. And I have to say it has been one of the most seamless updates ever. BUT, there are some annoyances indeed, not to mention added ‘BUGS’ in the latest one…

Agreed.

I have not fully committed to it and currently have two external SSDs running, one Catalina and the other Big Sur, so if disaster strikes, I can move back to Catalina without issue. Currently also SuperDuper isn't supporting back ups so thats an added reason I am continuing the Catalina drive in parallel.

:) I use Carbon Copy Cloner for that.
Having a Catalina backup on external SSD has crossed my mind but I am afraid of losing work as soon as I start switching…
I updated to BS only after I heard from close friends that they updated without trouble. I have seen trouble with previous OSX-updates, I waited almost a year to move to Cataline. In the mean time it looks like we all have to wait until Apple gets Bug Sur where we want it. At this moment I am not so pleased with the whiteness of windows, (which makes the (un)read ball, buttons and searchbar in the menubars almost unseeable. And the tiny open-save windows in 11.1 are really a mess-up on Apple's behalf.
Other than that I havent seen any big problems.

I have no clue, I googled it and there seems to be some relation to remote access to the Mac which is why I was concerned with potentially malware affecting my machine after discovering that process (unticked) under my privacy pane in Big Sur. I’m relieved that others have it too though and that it doesn’t appear to be related to malware

Sorry if this has been brought up earlier but what's the size of BS-11.1? I am confused because my 2015 MBP is showing the size of over 3GB where as my new MBP M1 is showing 4.19GB.

It's an incremental delta update, only the relevant subset of the whole update. I guess there were more code changes between 11.0.1 and 11.1 from the M1's perspective, because it's a more recent piece of hardware. Recently written graphics drivers etc. could be getting more frequent updates for a while.

Some people don't trust incremental updates and choose to download a combo update separately. That will update everything, even if it was already up to date. Whether it makes any difference, the evidence for that is anecdotal. Could be true, could in many cases be placebo.

However, it does reliably help in special cases, for instance if a previous update attempt has failed for some reason. Using a combo update will update everything, just in case. One should achieve the same result by downloading the full installer from the App Store.

With Big Sur it should be more rare to have a botched update, since the process is now different: it updates a snapshot of the system volume, instead of the system volume itself, making it possible to revert to the pre-update system if anything goes wrong during the process. More info in Ars Technica review.

If there's no problem, then don't try to fix it. Incremental updates should be OK, if the system is otherwise already behaving OK.

Edit: Based on the update sizes on this page, it looks like your 2015 MBP downloaded the delta update, and the M1 chose to download the combo update, and perhaps also a new firmware.

I'm "kind of" in the same environment. Still have the latest version of Catalina installed on both of my Macs, but have V11.1 of Big Sur (and files, folders, settings, etc. migrated from my late 2018 Mac Mini) installed an APFS-formatted partition on my (new) External Samsung T7 1 TB SSD. In fact, I am posting this from my Big Sur "environment". Entering my third pay of testing Big Sur, and so far, all is well. And yes, still no Big Sur compatible version of SuperDuper! (also Tech Tool Pro).

On Saturday, I will restart my Mac Mini from its internal SSD, and thus will be back in Catalina. Will proceed wit my usual tasks: run Onyx and Tech Tool Pro, and then do 2 SuperDuper! backups to 2 separate (different) external Samsung SSDs. Then back to Big Sur on the Mini.

I do not know if this has been mentioned before but 11.1 fixed for me the problem that i had with menu items, not remembering their position in the menu bar after restart.

I’ve had the same problem. After doing the update, signing out of iCloud and signing back in again fixed it. I had to do this after upgrading to 11 and also 11.1.

Anyone have a fix for how the SAVE dialogue window pops up under this new Big Sur v11.1 release? The sidebar is really small and no matter how many times I try resizing it using the OPTION key with the mouse it doesn't retain the window sizing. Something got screwed up with this save dialogue window in this updated release.

Or you could use this software:

I have been using VueScan for years. It's trouble free - It just works. Hamrick updates the software frequently.

Lou

Im using HP Smart software, which lets me connect to my network All-In-One printer on my home network. The software lets me scan, print, fax, edit, etc. Its simple and straight to the point.
It works fine, just two documents kept scanning upside down for some reason. As I mentioned earlier, eventualy I was able to properly scan them and today HP released an update for the software. So im not sure if the issue was related to Big Sur or just a bug in the software. Seems to be working with out any issues so far.

Its a fairly new all in one printer, HP LaserJet M130fw. So its not a driver issue or lack support from HP.

Install went fast & smooth.

YouTube scrolling problem...... still there

*screams into the void*

The stutter when scrolling? Yeah its annoying.

Are you using Safari to watch YouTube videos?

I still see random issues with video and audio freezing up and it would resume 5 sec later. I can see the video is playing in the progress bar and it has buffered 30 sec ahead. Had same issue in Catalina and I never found a fix. Only thing that worked, is play the video in full screen or open another window in front of it, like Finder window or System preference window.

Can you tell me more about the scanner? Make and model. How do you connect to it? Do you use Scanners factory software?

It's a Samsung M2070W. I have outlined my issues in other threads but since moving to Catalina, and then BS, the operation has deteriorated to the point where I can only print wirelessly or cabled. Nothing else. Samsung sold their printer division to HP some time ago and the latest driver from them is for Catalina, which doesn't work properly. I have spoken to Apple support but no joy. I am aware of Vuescan and yes the trial version works. I am not sure it's worth investing in though. I can still use the scanner with a 2010 Macbook Pro running High Sierra and it works perfectly, so I may just stick with that. I suppose the ultimate solution is to add the M2070W to the world's collection of landfill and buy a more recent scanner/printer. Not very environmentally friendly though. Also, I just bought a new toner cartridge, so I don't want to throw that away either.

Alright, straight forward question: To update or not to update?
I already have Big Sur 11.0.1 on my M1 MBP.

I have the M2070w too and both Samsung and HP provided no timeline for drivers or something since before Catalina had launched. That would be about 1.5-2 years now, which is when the actual device was launched, too. They sold it to people and never looked back.
Fortunately, Vuescan is really superb and is worth the price. I can scan from all computers (both Catalina and Big Sur). My initial thought was to sell the printer but what are options then? Definitely not HP or Samsung...

It does this in every single app across the board, it's so frustrating. Really shoddy. How can something so rudimentary as basic UI functionality be released like this?

You need to consider the following:

1. Are all your third party applications compatible with Big Sur?
2. Are you having any issues now with V11.0.1?
3. Are you making backups to an external device (unless you are just testing out Big Sur like I am)?

From my perspective, I did a clean, fresh installation of V11.1 onto a partition on an external SSD, and so far, all is well. I am primarily doing testing, though, as I still have Catalina on my internal SSDs (have 2 Mac). Also, two of my critical applications are not yet compatible with Big Sur. But other than that, all is well.

Some folks here have had issues doing an upgrade from V11.0.1 to V11.1, others have not.
