Good evening wonderful people. I’m having a problem that is pissing me off because I know I’m missing something stupid.
Berrys latest installer gives me an error 3 when trying to pick the hard drive to install to. And Parrotgeeks latest installer will go into a boot loop after the first reboot during install. I have SIP disabled and also have run the no compat check mutiple times.
catalina has no problem installing so I don’t think thats the issue anyway.
i am trying to install macOS Big Sur beta 3 on a 2009 Mac Pro flashed to a 5,1.

that did not go well lol. Booting from efi or option and then picking my Catalina drive only boots to recovery ?

SUCCESS! Big Sur beta 3 on iMac late 2013 (iMac 14.1)

I have used the old method, csrutil disable from recovery passing from @jackluke opencoreloader3, then using @ASentientBot very simple installer with hax3. After installation all works perfectly: acceleration, wifi, bluetooth, internal sounds in and out and it is REALLY FAST on a Samsung T5 external SSD. Now I can test all the options and 3th party softwares. Its really a shame that Apple doesn't support it officially.

Not a single problem on iMac 2013! And it works out of the box (after patching the installer thanks to the geniouses here ?) It is also faster than Catalina and very stable, to be only a Beta 3. Compatibile with all 3th parts applications tested until now. (I will report only not working ones) Mac ARMs can wait a long time for me.. ?

Yes, use @ASentientBot hax3 and @jackluke fixes if needed. Ask me how to do specifics steps, I'm happy to help you. The only limits are about Nvidia card, but is better than mine on Mac mini 2010 and I thiink that acceleration would work fine for you.

Hi guys, i would like to install Big Sur on my unsupported MBP Retina late 2012 13.
Some days ago i upgraded the wifi card (now it’s 802.11ac) and hd (with a Trascend Jetdrive with 240gb, so that i can add a new dedicated partition...in APFS), so i’m ready

BUT WHERE TO START? PARROTJEEK TOOL? OR barrykr big-sur-micropatcher?

Which is simplest? And more efficient?

Once i will have installed Big Sur can i normally install the future updates? Or it will be necessery to repeat every time the patched procedure?

I’m not a registered developer, so is it better to wait the public beta or to use the Developer beta3?

briefly:

1) Prepare the installer with @ASentientBot HAX patch.
2) Install OpenCoreLoader3b from @jackluke
3) Run in terminal from recovery (inside OpenCoreLoader3b) : csrutil disable
4) Launch Install macOS again inside OpenCoreLoader3b
5) Done, without other patches or fixes, in my iMac14.1 all works stable and FAST

Just updated my late 2012 Mac mini to beta 3. As expected no working WiFi after installation but just like Beta 2 all I had to do was to boot into the USB installer, mount the Big Sur volume with write access, copy over High Sierra's IO80211Family.kext and run the following commands: kmutil...

So, basically (assuming you haven't installed beta 3 yet):

1. If you haven't already, download beta 3 from here
2. Make sure SIP is disabled and -no_compat_check is set:
   Boot into recovery or USB installer, open up terminal and run
   

   csrutil disable
   nvram boot-args="-no_compat_check"

3. Reboot into macOS and download hax3 by ASentientBot from here
4. Run the app hax3.app and install beta 3.
5. Once installation is done, you'll find Wifi not working. Download IO80211Family.kext from this post
6. Boot into recovery or installer USB and fire up terminal
7. Replace the current IO80211Family.kext from beta 3 with the one you've downloaded in step 5:
   First, mount your Big Sur volume with write access:
   

   diskutil mountDisk /dev/diskxsx (where x corresponds to your Big Sur volume. e.g. /dev/disk1s5)
   mount -uw /Volumes/volume_name (where volume_name is the name of your Big sur volume)

   
   Then replace the kext and create a snapshot:
   
   

   # Backup original
   cd /Volumes/volume_name/System/Library/Extensions/
   mv IO90211Family.kext IO90211Family.kext.backup

I made a simple experimental script to patch the BigSur beta3 BaseSystem.dmg to use prelinkedkernel and to allow booting from non-APFS or legacy USB Mac, but currently you need a BigSur installation and run this directly from BigSur because you need "243 stock BigSur kext" (240 MB) to fix BaseSystem (but I'll try to figure out how to replace less of them).

In the script is also included the @Barry K. Nathan method (to replace only the 243 kext already present on the BaseSystem with ULFO compression)

If script worked you should notice in this folder /Volumes/USBInstallerBigSur/BaseSystem/

a patched BaseSystem.dmg size 850 MB (size reduced through the ULFO compression) and a BaseSystembackup.dmg size 884 MB .

(It's advisable to use a 32 GB USB for an USB BigSur Installer, considering that only the installer app zlib compressed currently is 12.88 GB, but I made another fix for those who use a 16 GB USB)

In case of non working the script is harmless for any Mac .

(Note you can also get a backup of stock BaseSystem.dmg from BigSur Recovery:
diskutil mount Recovery ; open /System/Volumes/Recovery/ )

The script is in two parts because I can't find a way to eject only the shadow BaseSystem.dmg to allow the ULFO compression on the same USB drive, so after first part you should unplug and plug your USB BigSur Installer, then continue with second script .

edit:
fixed it should work now, launch it directly from BigSur Beta3 normal booting to make a patched BaseSystem.dmg for an USB BigSur beta3 Installer to use legacy USB input output devices and Wifi too
(this version requires an USB BigSur Installer on an USB drive greater than 16 GB ).

I made another fix for those who use an USB drive less than 32 GB for the USB BigSurInstaller, use the BigSur 16gb BaseSystem fix.

(this new fix can be used also from 32 GB USB)

BigSur USB installer can now boot on a MBP5,2. Applied your 16GB version to a USB device after createinstallmedia.

I made a simple additional fix using the ASentientBot HaxLib.dylib to use (without usbopencore) a stock createinstallmedia USB BigSur Installer (patched from BigSur beta3 with BigSur 16gb BaseSystem prelinkedkernel fix.zip) to allow legacy USB mac to install through Utilities "Install macOS", unzip this attached (copy the two files on the USB without the subfolder) on the root of the USB BigSur Installer, then boot from the USB Installer (patched with BaseSystem fix), open terminal and type:

cd /Volumes/I*/

sh Hax3.sh

or

/Volumes/I*/Hax3.sh

close and from Utilities menu open the "Install macOS" (the circle BigSur icon), now volumes should be selectable and legacyUSB mac eligible to install or update a BigSur installation (credit to ASentientBot for HaxLib.dylib).

For non-APFS mac I guess they still need to use USBopencore to continue the stage2 installer "macOS Installer", while also APFS but legacy USB mac should use this method to install or update BigSur on internal SATA disk (because if you are updating an external USB disk I guess the SharedSupport.dmg on stage2 will copy a stock BaseSystem again or maybe not).

MBP5,2: the HaxLib works well together with the USB BigSur installer, patched already with your BigSur 16gb BaseSystem prelinkedkernel fix.
USB installer boots fine, then Hax fix applied, then BS installation (to a USB ssd) proceeds fine to the end of phase1.

For an Ivy Bridge Mac you don't need a patched BaseSystem (it's only for legacy USB Mac), just set from a macOS Recovery:

csrutil disable
nvram boot-args="-no_compat_check amfi_get_out_of_my_way=1"

Reboot from USB Installer then use the Hax3 (ASentientBot method) directly from the installer.

Ok... Sorry to bother you... I have MBP mid 2012 runnig Big Sur Beta 2 with everything runnig great. I have downloaded the Beta 3 installer, created the USB, patched with BarryKn's micropatcher 0.0.17 and added to the root the Hax3.sh
I followed your instructions and booted from the usb, typed the code for sh Hax3.sh and after I started the install from utilities. Selected the drive and it gave me an error which went away by itself and I have continued with agree and it started to install. Showed 14 min and when it turned to 12, the error appeared again and it told me to retry... That is why I thought that I have to patch it with that 16bg... Which I did execute! So a terminal opened and it started deleting and copying files like crazy! My question to you is: should I re-download the Beta 3 installer and redo the process just using the last 2 codes that you have told me, or I sould just try with what I have? Thank you sir and again sorry...
