Looks like all pre-Retinas and the first Retinas will be dropped. Mid 2013 and newer only.
The first retinas was a bit of a surprise. Those are still pretty powerful machines.

the 2012's still are for daily tasks with an SSD, so even though a small part in me expected it i was still surprised. The first retinas was a bit of a surprise. Those are still pretty powerful machines.
I would guess that it is possible as there is windows 10 running on arm processorsAny idea if BootCamp will work with their custom silicon mac?
Don't believe that will work... But still exist parallels to run windows via VM... I know windows 10 for arm exist but we don't know how well it will work under Apple's A series... And windows for arm doesn't run x64 apps only x86 so there's no reason to install it anyways...Any idea if BootCamp will work with their custom silicon mac?
I agree 100%. I have a 2013 imac and just upgraded it with a 240GB SSD but just like in the past I know that dosdude1 will make a great patcher just like he did for all the other versions of Mac OS. I also can not wait to see what these amazing people in this thread will accomplish with being able to run Mac OS Big Sur on unsupported Macs. I wish everyone good luck to make this possible.Arghhh, it's pretty unfair and unreasonable they left iMac Late 2013 out!
Hope it can be made to work, because Big Sur sure looks great.

It would be very cool to see this run on a 2006 and also a 2007. From my understanding it really depends on if the 2006 and 2007 has AMD graphics or Nvidia graphics. If they have Nvidia graphics then there may be a possibility of a patcher working for both of those years.MY 2006 IMAC PLEASE!!!! I WANT THAT TO BE SUPPORTED FFS IVE BEEN WAITING AGES FOR HIM TO MAKE A PATCHER FOR IT AND ALSO MY MID 2007 IMAC RUNNING Big Sur WOULD BE NICE IT HAS A UPGRADED SSE4 CPU

✌️If you haven't seen the post on rmc.ch/newsroom: I'm switching to Linux and won't develop a patcher this year. I also think this isn't a desktop OS.
Good luck getting this to work when Apple is going back to PowerPC (ARM sorry).. if you manage to get this to work on 2012 non-retina post it here. This thread will be used to discuss advancements in getting macOS 11 Big Sur running on unsupported Macs.

Possibly the new home for pre 2013 Macs. ? ?
I'll be here for testing brother! let's get at it!
Maybe it's the Intel HD 4000 that's no longer supported. Everything with at least the HD 5000 or Iris Graphics is still supported.
launchctl setenv DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES $PWD/Hax.dylib
-no_compat_check
in NVRAM is also, unsurprisingly, required.Ugh. Dropping the 2012 Mac mini and leaving the 2014. That just seems cruel.
MacOS support is completely arbitrary at this point. I miss when there was some kind of reason to justify dropping the older models.
I created a basic patch which seems to get a copy of the OS installed.

My steps (briefly) were:
- Disable Library Validation and SIP
-launchctl setenv DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES $PWD/Hax.dylib
- Open and click through the installer app
This is all that's necessary for an "install to this machine" outcome. However, it currently does not boot... will report back if I figure anything out.
For anyone else who only has an unsupported machine and wants to test, here are the files! There are definitely alternatives like using OpenCore, cloning from a supported machine, etc. But thought I'd share this anyways.
