About HD4000: there are HD4000 bundles in the current Big Sur beta, so, any hope for Mac Mini Late 2012?

Edit: and they changed (disabled?) the kextcache command, and prevented chowning something to root. This is such a nuisance.

I remember reading about kmutil as a replacement for kextcache, possibly in the known issues page. I'm still installing so don't have a man entry for it to investigate.

I am exploring the installer now. It looks like the actual install file is in /Volumes/Shared\ Support/com_apple_MobileAsset_MacSoftwareUpdate/0dc2cd535db0da2a9f559215671686ea4c055394.zip, which is a modified .ipa file. I'm trying to extract and install it manually now

Edit: Also, it needs over 50 gigs to do a clean install. I'm assuming it extracts the .zip to a temp location (~10gb), builds an installer package from the pbzx compressed payload (~10gb) then actually executes the staged installer (~10gb), which puts the files on disk (~20gb). So at the moment it looks like a hybrid macOS/iOS installer. The boot process for basesystem.dmg is completely different too - they've hardened and signed rc.cdrom, and it no longer creates ramdisks

Something else is stopping it from working - check the plist I’d supported machines.

Can anyone make a guide on how to get it installed? I was going to install it in a separate partition but can not work out how I am supposed to install it. I also have not got a way to obtain the big sur installer so if somebody could provide it that would be great

I can't seem to obtain the big sur installer in any way. I do not have any supported macs so I can't use them if someone could upload it to one drive that would be great

Might the use of LPDDR3 RAM in iMac14,4 (Mid 2014) but not iMac14,1 (Late 2013) explain why the latter won't be supported by Big Sur?

I created a basic patch which seems to get a copy of the OS installed.

My steps (briefly) were:
- Disable Library Validation and SIP
- launchctl setenv DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES $PWD/Hax.dylib
- Open and click through the installer app

This is all that's necessary for an "install to this machine" outcome. However, it currently does not boot... will report back if I figure anything out.

For anyone else who only has an unsupported machine and wants to test, here are the files! There are definitely alternatives like using OpenCore, cloning from a supported machine, etc. But thought I'd share this anyways.
There is no AVX requirement!!!

All that is necessary to reach the desktop is installing with my method, then deleting the Telemetry plugin (thanks again @jackluke, that's three years now!) and it boots to the desktop. No accel, of course... that will be the real challenge.

I'm sure this is the Big Sur Beta…btw I love the name, "Big Sur".
Big Sur Package.png I'd like to install to a new internal partition on my machine, or create a bootable installer on an external drive partition. I only have a single machine, but I'm still tempted to test Big Sur…it looks amazing.

People will probably hate the iOS-look off it, but aesthetically it looks amazing. The detail in each icon, fonts, spacing, geometry. They're really small things that make it feel special. I know it's all marketing and branding, but it makes for that experience…
