There is a bug of the file accessing. In Finder, open a file from SMB share with PS, PixelMator or some other apps and make some edit, then save the file to the SMB share. Close app. then in finder, preview will stop working and Finder will crash after some time.

The Messages App consistently crashes for me on my M1 MBP 2020 when sending multiple pictures from the Photos App by dragging them over to the Chat Window. Crashes right away. Then I reopen Messages and those same photos I dragged over show the blue progress bar that they're uploading/sending. Then all is well.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Reported on FB13182832, screen turns off when opening the lid, MacOS 14.0 RC, Macbook Air M2 Model.

+ When the issue happened, the Caps Lock key light is functional.

Maybe.. I'm a developer and know well about Linux / Unix. If any issue, it is usually not caused by my wrong operation. Need more discussion on this. @davidlv

Not seeing it.

I can believe they all run with no visible problem. But do they suffer from the bug that Mullvad describes? If they do, they may not be secure.

I use PIA and it runs fine. I have asked PIA whether it is safe from the bug.
Look, as long as it's showing the right IP address when you are running it, everything is fine. Not sure what other security features are needed. I've tested my PIA install, and it shows country-correct IP address when being used. VPN Kill switch works as it should. My SonicWall mobile connect VPN client also works perfectly. In fact, I have not had one issue with Sonoma RC. My speedometer 2.1 score is 496 on base M2 MacStudio Ultra (in Safari). That's almost 80 points higher than I was getting under 10.13.5. I've never seen a score that high!

Update to the Time Machine not working issue - after about a week (installed RC on release day), Time Machine suddenly started working after the "cloud files are syncing" error. No changes to iCloud, etc. just waited.

I asked PIA about this. From their testing, the PF bug that affects Mullvad is reproducible but occurs in a particular use of PF (quick rules) and PIA do not use pf in that way. So not all VPNs are effected by this bug. But PIA are concerned about a number of new bugs/changes in PF in addition to long standing bugs that Apple refuse to fix. The good news: PIA have not found any leaks with PIA for MAC. Bad news: The long standing pf bug effecting split tunnel has not been fixed.

I notice a bug with Firefox and Pages. When I copy the field "Additional Details" from a page at imdb.com, the copied field in Pages is blank. This doesn't happen with Safari.

Hey guys.
The RC is the final version?
I can't wait to test this, so if it's like the iOS 17 updates, I believe that using developers version is already the final version?

RC means release candidate. It should be the final version, unless something crucial is found and needs to be fixed before the official release. Only very rarely does the final release differ from the RC beta.

Just installed.
Thanks for the info, a lot!

Looks like “Legacy” screensavers on AS Macs still run as a process that chews up memory…

I’m not seeing this process listed on my 2018 Intel Mac mini at all, just my M1 MBP, which is what's leading me to believe Apple might discontinue using .saver files for Screensavers. Possibly due to them running via Rosetta? Apple spent the last few months really pushing beta testers towards their "new" (TV) Screensavers. And they're really nice! I just like my Matrix screensaver better.

Homebrew still hasn't been updated for Sonoma, but I notice that some formulae already have Sonoma versions.

I think they’re just “officially” waiting for release to say it’s supported. I’ve had no issues with Homebrew beyond the warning saying it’s not supported.

The only bug I had so far with the RC is the dock stopping appearing after 4 days, even if I uncheck/check the setting to hide it. Had to restore the computer to fix it. Aside from that, it's been one of the most solid release in years for me. It fixes many bugs I had since 1-2 years.
