Hi,

Is it anyone getting this crash and have his iMac restarted? I see the crash over the night at least once and it's annoying.
I have never encountered this before and I don't know how to fix it. Any ideas?

Hi Andreas,
Googling this problem got me to your thread.
I'm also experiencing this problem on my macbookpro getting this error -

Hi Stav,

I have turned off the option "Enable Power Nap" and I have not seen my computer restarting afterwards. Probably something is corrupt somewhere, or I need to follow the thread from the Apple discussion forum, eventually resetting the NVRAM and SMC.

I will activate again the feature and see if this was causing the issue.

This has happened to me the last two nights - both with slightly different states when I left my MBP for the evening.

The first evening, Monday evening, was business as usual. Done for the day around 6PM. Came back to MBP around 730AM to a powered off machine. Error as above.

This morning, I came back to a powered off machine. This time, I left it in a state where it was tethered to my phone since we lost our XFinity service during the afternoon on Tuesday. So not an apples-to-apples comparison.

Said it errored on the waking up, both times. My error was:
Sleep transition timed out after 180 seconds while calling power state change callbacks. Suspected bundle: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily.

I'll look at disabling the Enable Power Nap, especially because I leave my MBP plugged in.

Hi, I'm getting a similar crash repeatedly on my new Mac Pro. Whenever its left to go into sleep for any period of time it crashes and I have to restart.

Spoke with Apple support earlier, its possibly (?) connected to a Thunderbolt adapter issue (Thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter, driving an LG monitor)

panic(cpu 6 caller 0xffffff801b491b2c): Sleep transition timed out after 180 seconds while entering darkwake on way to sleep. Suspected bundle: com.apple.driver.usb.AppleUSBXHCI. Thread 0x21d1d.

Having the same issue with MacBook Pro 16" - wakes up in the morning to a powered off machine.

The only logs I see are errors with: com.apple.DumpGPURestart

Same here. Alanofdamac mentions support saying it could be thunderbolt issue. Mine seems to happen mostly when I'm connected to an LG 4K monitor that has a USB-C connection. Even when not connected to the monitor, I believe I see the crash when I open the macbook RIGHT AFTER I was connected to the monitor.

But the first item under "loaded kexts" is VirtualBox and around the same time as I got the monitor I created a Windows VM under VirtualBox so not sure which is the issue (or a combination).

I’m having the same problem. My new iMac came installed with Catalina. My other iMac at home has Mojave without problems. I’ve only had my new one for a week and I’ve had reboots when asleep with the above panic. Or similar. I haven’t even installed anything on my computer. I talked to support and did what they said but it continues to happen. I’m thinking I should just send it back for a refund. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

There's a number of us with the same issue -- Catalina-based Macs rebooting when asleep -- and it seems to be irrespective of model. I have a brand new MBP 16" crashing. If you search on MacRumors, Reddit, and Apple's own forums, you'll see the same: multiple models all crashing. I really want to return my MBP 16" too, just to send Apple a message (that spending $2600 on a brand new laptop to have it crash every night is completely unacceptable) but I'm hoping this is just a software issue they can fix soon.

You're not alone.

Yeah, I agee. Unacceptable for sure. Just wondering people's history, and best guess, if this is likely going to resolve with an update and something Apple is really going to address. In some of the forums people are like, do this, do this; and it's not a problem for me? So do we wait and likely it will get fixed or is this a longer term problem that isn't worth the expense I paid? The unfortunate thing is I can't go back to Mojave on the new one :(

Got my third system crash in 3 or 4 days…

macOS Catalina 10.15.4 (19E287) on iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2017).

Hoping for a fix soon as this is quite annoying.

I'm having the same issue on a brand new MacBook Pro 16", Catalina 10.15.4. I also have an external LG 4K USB-C display.

I used the macOS Migration Assistant from my old MacBook Pro instead of manually reinstalling everything and moving data. I'm wondering if something got migrated from my old MacBook that is not compatible. Did anyone else experiencing this issue use Migration Assistant?

It has nothing to do with Migration Assistant as everyone and their grandmother is having the issue. It's all over Reddit, Twitter, etc. I am always baffled by the fact that Apple users try to jump through every hoop to make sure they got everything right. It's not your fault.

It's a Catalina problem and happening on a 2018 Mac Mini and 16'' MacBook Pro for me. Catalina is just downright trash atm.

Thanks, that's actually reassuring to know -- hopefully it will get addressed by Apple. My 16" MacBook Pro is just 2 days old and I was dreading jumping through all of the hoops (as you alluded to) to decide whether I need to send it back. Sounds like none of that will help and I just need to wait for Apple's fix ??

Having the same issue here w a brand new, days old, 16" MBP. Very annoying.

I got the 16" after my 2018 15" MBP's battery exploded right after it performed the 10.15.4 supplemental update a week ago. The 15" has since been repaired, but it's off and not using. Keeping it just in case the 16" explodes. Sadly, I don't trust Apple machines anymore.

I turned off PowerNap and it didn't occur last night, first time since I've had the 16". Hoping that continues, as I can do without PowerNap ?. Give it a try and let us know if it works for you.

I did what you suggested. At first, it seemed that it had worked. Unfortunately, the following error showed up after a prolonged sleep period in which the MBP rebooted:

panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff801c816487): "ATY,Boa::setPowerState(0xffffff86b1dff000 : 0xffffff7f9fdb6d88, 2 -> 1) timed out after 45940 ms"@/AppleInternal/BuildRoot/Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Sources/xnu/xnu-6153.101.6/iokit/Kernel/IOServicePM.cpp:5296

Did you turn off PowerNap for both Battery and Power Adapter? I don't know if it matters, but I turned off PowerNap using this command, instead of the UI:

sudo pmset -a darkwakes 0

Maybe try that and see if it works?
