Download the latest version of dosdude1's patcher app, then from the menubar download the latest version of the OS hopefully this should be High Sierra 10.13.2. Make a new USB installer using the patcher and install over your beta install.
Please make a full back of your existing system first.

It was not installing over pervious installation so installed it fresh, now on 10.13.2, installed it on HFS+, I don't know why but it feel smoother than APFS (on Kingston SSD). Thanks L Caputo :)

I have a Mac Pro (Early 2008), that I'd like to upgrade to High Sierra. I've downloaded DosDude's patch app and used it to create a patched installer flash drive. I've used this drive to upgrade a Mac Mini (Early 2009) to High Sierra, but my Mac Pro does not recognize the flash drive as a bootable drive. The "Startup Disk" pane in System Preferences does seem to indicate that it's bootable (it allows me to select it as a bootable drive). However, if I select it and click Restart, the system just boots from the internal SSD (which has Sierra installed). Similarly, if I hold down the Option key when I restart, the patched High Sierra installer does not show up as a bootable disk.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can boot from the High Sierra installer on this machine? I've already tried re-building the High Sierra installer via the patch tool, but that didn't help.

Unmount the disk before formatting to APFS using Disk Utility, that should make it work.

Didn't work. I tried unmounting, blowing away the partition table and then unmounting again just to be sure. 100% reproducible. Also formatting HFS works all the time so it's not the drive. And I know this SSD does work with APFS because I had it formatted APFS from the last beta of 10.13.

Try selecting "Show All Devices" in the View option in Disk Utility, click the Erase button, and format as APFS with GUID Partition Table. Looks like this is what you've already done, but just thought I'd make sure to point out the Show All Devices option... It's easily missed.

Just installed macOS High Sierra 10.13.2 onto my iMac 8,1 earlier in the week. I’d held off for quite awhile and left the iMac at macOS Sierra. But Spectre and Meltdown have forced me to reconsider.

The upgrade went very smoothly. Only one problem: I had to apply patches twice and force a cache rebuild the second time for the volume controls and iMac’s internal speakers to work correctly. It’s all good now, though!

the last few days i have noticed the night shift not working when i go to look at in display pref its not there. i reinstalled 10,13,2 and it was there again untill a few hrs ago now its gone again. what should i do. ? only reason i reinstalled the os is becase i reapplied the patch and ran onyx and then i could not get in to the display pref.,, also onyx has been they way you see in the photo al day. and it dose not verify the disk at start up like it should.

Re-install the Night Shift Patch using the Patch Updater application (in /Applications/Utilities). Just open it, click "View Installed Updates", then right-click on the Night Shift Patch, and select "Re-install".

Thanks I didn’t know about that. Still doesnt work. Same error. I can wait for 10.13.3 or I can try formatting with a 10.13 beta if I can find a copy.

They very recently redesigned the layout, as they mention in the release notes. I'm not sure what's equivelent to the former "Automation."

Well, I don't normally reply to myself, but I thought that this information might help out others. I discovered that my problem was somehow related to the flash drive that I was attempting to use. The ones that I was trying to use (which didn't work) were PNY 16GB USB 2.0 thumb drives. I decided for s&g's to try reusing a different flash drive that I had (a Lexar USB 3.0 32 GB thumb drive) that I had previously used as an installer for Yosemite.

So, before I started, I cloned the Lexar drive to a disk image, and re-ran dosdude1's High Sierra patch tool. As before, the tool successfully created the patched installer. After the installer was created, I rebooted my machine (holding the Option button down). Lo and behold, the High Sierra Installer appeared as a bootable disk.

I have no idea why different brands of USB media appear to matter, but it does appear that way.

Just thought I'd update my experience with 10.13.2 on MBP 5,2 17" Early 2009 with cinema display.

For weeks I had been using built-in GPU with [Settings > Mission Control > Displays have separate Spaces] turned on and [Settings > Accessibility > Display > Reduce Transparency] turned off, and I was having WindowServer and kernel_task frequently using high CPU -- it was driving me mad: the constant slow downs.

Then I switched to the discrete GPU, turned off Separate Spaces, and turned on Reduce Transparency, and my WindowServer and kernel_task CPU usage is constantly low, now. I have yet to test the contrubution of each setting individually, but it's presently a huge improvement.

Occassionally when returning to the computer, the internal display maxes out at half brightness, and requires I close and open the lid, and then it returns to full brightness. I don't know if that's a software or hardware issue, but it's quickly resolved, so I don't really care that much. Otherwise, things are surprisingly good for a 9 year old mac.

Check forums here in macrumors or google to see what others experience of going from a 4.1 to 5.1 are, see if there are any drawbacks.

I've done what suggested... These are the steps until now:
1) removed from pci-e 4 caldigit FASTA-6GU3 Plus ---> Still issues
2) removed from pci-e 3 sonnet Allegro USB3 ---> Still issues
3) removed from pci-e 1&2 the 2 Nvidia 4000 and installed a Radeon HD4870 ---> Issues gone.
So I checked the console for errors and I've got a bunch (see image).
There are still problems, for example a simple Safari page is not working
and also if I install Firefox it doesn't work (installs but no browsing).
I tried to see what happened if I put again one by one the cards,
so I started with 1 Nvidia, then the other one...
The kicking out to the logging window was gone!!!
BUT... as soon as I connect again all my 3 monitors
(so adding the other 2 to the main one),
here it comes the kicking again...
Ideas?

Alright I finally fixed my APFS problem although I don't actually know what was causing it in the first place. It's definitely something to do with 10.13.2 installer and/or the patch.

I wasn't able to format my Samsung EVO 500G SSD APFS no matter what I did. Through DU I would get 'internal error'. On the command line I would get some error that didn't come up in google about not being able to get the volume size.

For kicks I tried putting the machine into target disk mode and was able to format the drive APFS using another 10.13 machine. However, when I went to do the USB install the install would fail due to an 'internal error' and one time complained about the preboot volume. I thought my USB installer was just bad so I rebuilt it from scratch with a fresh copy of 10.13.2 downloaded through the patcher but that behaved the same. I still thought the installer might be bad but I was able to format and install without any problems using HFS+.

So next I thought it might be the physical machine or drive so I popped the SSD out and put it into a 2012 MBP that supports 10.13 natively. Using the same patched USB installer I got the same errors trying to format APFS. So then for kicks I tried installing with a fresh non patched installer using internet recovery on the 2012 MBP. That worked! APFS format and OS install without any issues. After the successful install I swapped the drive back into my unsupported MBP and proceeded to patch it.

Continued below....
[doublepost=1515430599][/doublepost]So I did an unconventional install. Basically I installed 10.13.2 using a supported machine and a non patched installer (internet recovery install). I took the drive out and put it into a unsupported MBP and patched it using a patched USB installer. Everything seemed to be working but it seems wake from sleep and display brightness don't work. I tried re-patching but that doesn't work. Also checked and SIP has been disabled all along. So what got missed doing it this way? It was the only way I could get it installed on an APFS volume. See the above post for why.

Just installed the 10.13.2 complementary update (17C205) on my MacBook late 2008.
The installation went through flawlessly. I also did not have to reapply the night shift patch.
In addition, the strange "double restart" issue which also some other people in here reported, seems to be gone.
Safari and other browsers seem to work without any issues, no Onyx run required this time.

Hi guy's ! I have upgraded my MBP 17' Early 2008.

With an SSD and a macbook mid-2009 Airport card to make the Wifi work.
Now i was wondering :
is there a fix for the brightness control that doesn't work ?
Is that normal that the computer became very hot while doing basic things ?

Thanks you !

I can confirm that no additional steps are necessary when installing the 10.13.2 Supplemental Update on a mid 2009 13" Macbook Pro. Install and go...

Same update (MacBookPro5,2) went smoothly. Reboot after install update and double reboot returned. Still not sure what is cause not a big deal but would like to see this behavior eliminated.

*** Anyone know if deleting the EFI/APPLE/EXTENSIONS/Firmware.scap file might fix double boot or would that break unsupported patch? ***

Try to reapply the post-install script from @dosdude1 utility booting from the usb drive. That brought back the functionality on my MBP.

I didn’t realize I was still signed up for beta versions and after putting high Sierra on my mid 2009 13” mbp it updated to 10.13.3. Well now it seems the App Store won’t load, safari won’t load anything, but chrome will. I tried a few things like clearing NVRAM but that didn’t fix it. Any ideas? Probably just have to bite bullet and rollback if I can.

Use Onyx to run it's "Maintenance" script, that will fix those issues.

Installation went well on my mid-2009 17-inch MacBook Pro, but I've run into one issue. My Macbook is a 5,2. When choosing this in the Post install app, it includes the back light fix patch and was selected. After High Sierra finished installing I tested the brightness key and while it responds showing the brightness status, it does not make the screen brighter or dimmer, just stays the same. I noticed the patch was also included in the patch updater in Utilities and I installed that along with the other available patches but it still hasn't fixed it. Is there any way to get this to work?
Other than that, everything else seems to work great.

I have the same issue but I have 2 mid-2009 17" MBPs and one of them has the backlight issue and the other one doesn't although I did install the OS a bit differently on them. See my posts above on this page.

Onyx Maintenance script didn't do anything for the backlight although I'm not sure if its supposed to.
