Installed 10.13.4 on my iMac 7,1, APFS boot, with no issues, just had to run "dosdude" post install patch to get the keyboard brightness control working again and everything seems to run just fine. Always get a tad bit of angst when updating an unsupported system, because you never know if things might become unstable, but alas no issues with this update.

Upgrade MacPro 3,1 from OS 10.13.3 to OS 10.13.4, upon reboot stuck at the Apple Logo screen, the progress bar was almost to the end with a gear appearing. Cannot use recovery drive of 10.13.3.

I had a similar result, and would appreciate any advice on how to proceed.

After successfully installing 10.13.3 using the High Sierra patcher, I attempted to upgrade from 10.13.3 to 10.13.4 on my MacPro3,1. The installer progress bar stalled at about 95% completion. My attempt to reboot to the recovery volume "Recovery10.13.3" failed. Next, I booted from macOS and ran the macOS Post Install.

After doing this I was able to boot from my hard drive, which now reports 10.13.4; however, I lack confidence that the installation was complete.

There's also a lot of video glitching on login that wasn't there with 10.13.3. My graphics card is a Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB. Here is a brief video demonstrating the problem:

heard somewhere that only AMD/ATI cards have these problems.
I got tired of the graphical glitches so I downgraded TO an old Nvidia GTX 285 FROM an ATI R9 280x. I still saw the red screen glitch until I ran script from dosdude1 above which removes the AMD patches. All good now.

the new macOS High Sierra Patcher doesn't go to the patcher screen from the Apple logo screen as unlike the macOS Sierra Patcher. The macOS Sierra Patcher has the progress bar half way and then switch to the Installer screen.

The macOS High Sierra Patcher just keep on going to the end of the progress bar and then stuck there instead.

I am using the 2.5.5 version.

I heard somewhere that only AMD/ATI cards have these problems. I have a GT 120 (Apple OEM) sitting in my storage and used to own a GTX 650Ti. These are proven to be perfect. Yeah, I would stay with the HD 7950 for the end of this Mac Pro's life and maybe trade for a 5,1 when I have more cash.

I have an Apple OEM ATI Radeon HD 5770 1 GB in my MacPro3,1 and there are all kinds of issues, both graphical glitches and application glitches. I gave up and downgraded to 10.13.3. I hope it's something an update to the patcher can fix, but otherwise, this may be the end of the line for OS X upgrades for my 3,1...

I just update my Mac Pro 2008 from 10.3.2 to 10.3.4 succesfully. I had to reinstall AMD patch with Dosdude's patch updater. Beyond that, no other problem. Here is my configuration:
Mac Pro (Early 2008)
2 x 3,2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
32 Go 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM
ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 Mo

Updated my MBP 5,1 and it's running fine. But as with the 10.3.3 update, it's not been recorded in the installation history - in the App Store recent updates, or the installation log. About this mac shows 10.13.4.

How to downgrade back to 10.13.3 ?

Are you using the macOS 10.13.4 full installer to create the High Sierra Patched USB installer? If you download the macOS 10.13.3 full installer from within the High Sierra Patcher, this issue shouldn't occur. It appears that some changes made to the macOS installer in 10.13.4 are incompatible with the current patcher releases.

Yes I did use the 10.13.4 full installer from the App Store. I guess I will wait for the installer within the High Sierra Patcher to update to 10.13.4.

Installed HS on a Mac Mini 3,1 that I bought for use as a media server, and replaced the old slow hard drive with an SSD. Other than incompatible Airport (that I'm not using anyway), the install works without a hitch.

Hello @swamprock

You have updated from 10.13.3 to 10.13.4 from the Mac App Store on your Mac mini? Have you encountered any problems?

I ask because I recently managed to install High Sierra on my Mac mini and I do not want any surprises by this latest update.

Thank you

So just the full installer for 10.13.4 is the problem, and not the App Store updates? The reason I ask is some of us got an error message after the 10.13.4 update install, but nonetheless have a fully functioning 10.13.4 install.

Yes, it's just the installer. Software updates to 10.13.4 aren't an issue.

Yes I have. No issues that I can see. The Night Shift patch will need to be reinstalled, but that's it as far as I can tell.

After update to 10.13.4 I'm unable to change screen brightness either via F1/F2 keys or System Preferences, there is no slider. Does anyone have the issue?

Re-install the backlight control patch using the Patch Updater application.

Yeh the 5770 does not play nice with HS. So I ran beta 5 on 10.13.4. Bad idea. After the install, the 5770 was not accelerated. You can tell if the dock isn't translucent. Tried a bunch of things to see if I could get it working including reinstallation of patches, SIP On/off, etc.

Long story short, ended up reinstalling the OS since I didn't have a backup (note to self don't do that again). So I don't know how the GM of 10.13.4 performs on the 5770 but on 10.13.3, it was glitchy. I didn't experience any application glitches but I'd get red and blue redraw errors in Preview, Safari, and other apps. Wake up from sleep is also broken. Moving the window across the screen forced a redraw and fixed the glitches... but if you had to scroll, oftentimes the red/blue would come back.

I ended up just getting a GTX 680 for my 3,1 on eBay for around $200. So far, works well out of the box. Also works with Nvidia's drivers. If you want to squeeze more life into your 3,1 as others have said, I'd recommend going that route. The actual upgrade from 10.13.3 -> 10.13.4 worked fine here. Dare I say this machine works as well as it does on the officially supported El Cap.

Re-install the backlight control patch using the Patch Updater application.

I have the same issue on my MBP5,5, and the backlight control patch doesn't show up in the patch updater...

EDIT: Nevermind. I booted up the post-install and installed the patch. The Patch Updater picked it up and updated it, and all works now. I guess I never installed it in the first place, as it wasn't needed for 10.13.0 thru 10.13.3. It's needed now, though...

Weird. I also have MBP5,5 and my backlight control worked post 10.13.4 update without my having to run the post-install patcher.

Hmmm. Not sure what happened here. I reinstalled the Night Shift patch, as it seems all of the updates break that one. It was after reinstalling that patch that I noticed that my brightness controls didn't work. I'm not sure if that's what broke it, or if it was something else. I haven't checked my 2009 Mac Mini (with very similar specs) post-update for anything broken yet, as it's my headless media server, but I'm curious now...

How to downgrade back to 10.13.3 ?

I just created a new 10.3.3 installer using the download available through the tool and overwrote 10.3.4; so far everything working after redoing my preferences...

Good to know that a gfx card change could potentially allow 10.13.4 to work somewhat usefully on my old 3,1, but that machine is just my "backup;" I've already switched to a 5,1 a couple years ago and don't feel like putting any more money into the 3,1 and would rather just save up for the uber expensive 7,1 when it comes out in a year or so...

BTW, I've never had probs with my 5770 under 10.3.3 and earlier.
