Yeah, don't use NightEnabler with High Sierra. The binary it replaces needs to be edited in a different way than in Sierra. I'll get that done, and release it via Patch Updater.

Just a "quick" question; I have beta 7 developer version installed on MacBook Pro 5,2. It works flawlessly, still, is it possible to use the latest patcher to convert to APFS without reformatting the drive, i.e., without clean install?

Thanks for any information.

You can convert to APFS. Boot into your USB installer and open Disk Utility. Select your HFS+ partition in the sidebar, the go to Edit > Convert to APFS... to convert it. After that, apply the macOS Post Install patches.

New Night Shift patch is finished, and is available in the Patch Updater tool.

Just updated High Sierra patcher via "patch updater" - night shift works again.

thank you

Thanks. I will try to convert High Sierra installation to APFS file format, and post back when done.

NightShift working fine on Mac Pro 3,1.

@dosdude1 Unlike @foxlet's NightEnabler, this update did not do a backup of CoreBrightness before it overwrote it, correct?

One question,

is it possible to enable Night Shift on supported MBA with the tool?

It doesn't, but I can add that that to the installer script if you think it would be beneficial.

I do :). Costs nothing, but gives a piece of mind and an easy way back in case anything goes wrong. Didn’t think to make a backup myself because I assumed it will do that, but then I looked into install.sh and oops :).

Let's find out :)

Let us know.

Works fine here on my MacPro 3,1 and HD Cinema Display (although the default setting for the color temp is a tad too yellow for my tastes).

Yep, it's working. Night Shift enabled on supported MBA :)
Tnx @dosdude1
[doublepost=1503699604][/doublepost]Btw, I've noticed that 2 fingers scroll doesn't work on MB 5,2, High Sierra.
Its working fine in Sierra.

I wish NightShift had Flux-like option to disable it for specific apps. Or even better: disable entirely or set a custom temperature. I've been using Flux for years, and now NightShift, but I always had Flux to auto-disable when I open, say, Photoshop. Other than working with graphics, photos and watching video - I prefer having NightShift on after sunset, especially when working late at night. On iOS, when you have NightShift on and play video, it gets disabled temporarily. At least that could come to Macs.

Great :).

Is your trackpad detected as a regular mouse?

@RogueB You should be fine.

@dosdude1 Thank you, checking it out right now.
Followed the instructions but, on patching and reboot with option key pressed, I only see EFI, recovery partition and the USB external thumb drive. I re-patched, but with same results. Interestingly, the HighSierra_boot volume shows up in disk utility, but not on boot.

Choosing the main High Sierra drive (listed as an an APFS volume) brings circle with a line through center to the screen, followed by auto-boot into, what appears to be, recovery partition) Reinstalling beta 7 and rerunning the patcher (2.1.1) did not change the outcome. First aid declares all partitions as being OK, including the HS_boot one which does not show up as a choice in "startup disk" utility or as a choice when booting with option key on (see above)

Any ideas where to proceed from here ?

On my MacPro 3,1, the NightShift panel has a Color Temperature control to adjust it from less warm to more warm. Isn't that showing up for you?

Boot from EFI partition

I did boot into EFI partition, it starts with apple logo, then a second later screen changes to "circle with a line" and boots into recovery partition (?)

Can you upload some pics? From disk utility and terminal, after "diskutil list" command...startup disk options..

Btw, how did you check whats under Disk utility? You booted to working Sierra partition or?

Unfortunately I can't boot into working High Sierra partition, (I am posting from another mac.) I can only boot into an USB thumb drive, or try to boot into the main drive, and it will default to Recovery Partition. Once in either, thumb drive (Base OS X instal) or recovery-partition, one can access the first aid from the menu bar. Hence source of data.

If thats the case, I would go and try again. Fresh install and after its finish, when you boot from USB thumb drive, make sure you don't check both patches, Recovery and APSF.

I used the patch 2.1.1 which sets the two choices as mutually exclusive; I am sure I did not check Recovery Partition.
Is there a way to delete recovery partition and the Sierra_boot partition via terminal ?

Technically, I should be able to boot from external drive and delete partitions from the terminal (?)

You should be able to boot, yes.
Check here how to delete it #719

Now we're cooking...
Got my favorite traffic lights, colored sidebar icons and tabbed finder windows back.
This High Sierra just might be usable after all.:D

It's unfortunate that none of the VM's out there support booting High Sierra from APFS yet or that would be a nice data point to collect for comparison (to see if running 10.13 from generic virtual hardware on APFS produced the same glitch with iCloud/Messages/Facetime).

I have VMWare Fusion 8.58. High Sierra Developer 7 is working in an APFS partition and boots from it nicely. I haven't tried the iCloud stuff yet.
