Apple released 10.14.5 final (18F132) today.

MP5,1 still has 144.0.0.0.0 with 10.14.5 final:
Code:
$IBIOSI$ MP51.88Z.F000.B00.1904121248
Apple ROM Version
  Model: MP51
  EFI Version: 144.0.0.0.0
  Date: Fri Apr 12 12:43:00 2019
  Build Type: Release

MP6,1 still has 130.0.0.0.0:

Code:
$IBIOSI$ MP61.88Z.F000.B00.1904121119
Copyright (c) 2005-2019 Apple Inc. All rights reserved.
Apple ROM Version
  Model: MP61
  EFI Version: 130.0.0.0.0
  Built by: root@saumon
  Date: Fri Apr 12 11:19:25 PDT 2019
  Revision: 130 (B&I)
  ROM Version: F000_B00
  Build Type: Official Build, Release
Compiler: Apple clang version 3.0 (tags/Apple/clang-211.10.1) (based on LLVM 3.0svn)

What I have to do to upgrade the firmware:

Remember that Mac Pro 5,1 don't install firmwares automatically with updates like every other supported Mac and all BootROM upgrades are manual.

If your Mac Pro have a BootROM earlier than MP51.0089.B00, to upgrade to 144.0.0.0.0 you will have to do:

  1. Download the full Mac App Store installer for 10.13.6, open it and then do as the installer says to upgrade to MP51.0089.B00, this needs a Mac EFI GPU. After the firmware upgrade reboot, you can close the installer app.
  2. Download the full Mac App Store installer for Mojave, the most recent one (10.14.5), open it and then do as the installer says to upgrade to 144.0.0.0.0. After the firmware upgrade reboot, you can close the installer app. This firmware upgrade requires a METAL supported GPU.
If your Mac Pro have a BootROM later than MP51.0089.B00, like 138/139/140.0.0.0.0 and want to upgrade to 144.0.0.0.0 you will have to do:

  • Download the full Mac App Store installer for Mojave, the most recent one (10.14.5), open it and then do as the installer says to upgrade to 144.0.0.0.0. After the firmware upgrade reboot, you can close the installer app. This firmware upgrade requires a METAL supported GPU.

- If you still have doubts about BootROM upgrade, all questions and the requirements are answered here in detail:

- Don't use Mojave Patcher to download installers for supported Macs.

If you need to download a full installer outside the Mac App Store, use installinstallmacos.py

Hey, I ran the update to 10.14.5 from Software Update/System Preferences.

My macOS is 10.14.5 build 18F32, but my BootROM is still 141.0.0.0.

What gives?

Question: starting from firmware 138.0.0.0.0. I can update to the 144.0.0.0.0 firmware. remaining however with osx 10.13.6. true?
To do this can I leave the AMD RADEON NITRO 8GB GPU or should I put the amd 5770?
Thanks.

Ah, thanks tsialex and crjackson2134.

Note to everyone: you'll know if the BootROM update is working if you have an optical drive installed and it opens and ejects the drive. Great to know if you don't have a full EFI GPU, as you won't get a boot or progress screen, I have an RX 580 so I didn't see one.

Full installer up on the App Store at least. And the BootROM install works on my Samsung Pro 970 and kryo PCIe adapter. BTW it's 6.1 GB this time so be prepared for a wait!

I'm at 144.0.0.0 as I should be, will check on my distributed computing app to see if anything benches faster.

I installed the full macOS installer using macOS Mojave patcher;
The DMG version shows me (+i)=> version:14.4.10; Is it the latest version?

If I proceed the install it doesn't give me the option to install the new firmware.

Impossible to update from 141.0.0.0 to 144.0.0.0 with flashed 980Ti. I got that special sound, LED is blinking but it reboots to Windows 8.1 ;-)

If I remove Windows drive it boots High Sierra normally without update. Tried from HS 10.13.6 without this latest Security Update.

I will try directly from Mojave.
[doublepost=1557776166][/doublepost]Doesn’t work under Mojave with flashed HD7870 as well. Probably Mavericks is needed again!

144.0.0.0.0 is proving to be a superior BootROM version on my machine...

How so on yours? Faster boot, faster general response?

So far on my 5,1, BootROM 144.0.0.0 seems to have reduced the time it takes to do a BOINC GPU work unit on my RX 580 from 36 minutes to 28 minutes. That's a 22 percent increase! Or maybe they tweaked the RX 580 drivers?

However, BootROM 130.0.0.0 on a 6,1 with dual D300s yields no change in any GPU speeds. I guess Apple's not taking any chances and not fixing what ain't broke, since 10.14.4 seemed to address the complaints of many who said they kept getting crashes due to the graphic drivers..

@tsialex can you confirm that the new firmware make the mention :hyperthread actived
in système profiler?
Seems a new feature of SystemInformation>HardwareOverview for 10.14.5.

If Apple is showing this setting now, they probably gonna implement a easy way to disable HyperThreading in the near future. This will be needed to show when HT is activated or not.

Seems a good idea, HyperThreading is inherently unsafe and some people will prefer a more secure macOS install while others will prefer more performance with the security compromises of HyperThreading.

Thx @crjackson2134 for confirming this, I'm trying to repair my main disk that Security Update 2019-003 for High Sierra totally hosed.

Hmm, this is the first time I've had an issue with the BootROM updating successfully. I'm using the Vega FE. Doing the same as every other update before... full installer, hold button till flashes and sound. But this time the screen stays black versus seeing the Apple logo and bar.

Will download again and try.

It may just be there to better clarify to users when they're using a CPU which doesn't support HT.

Last firmware update that have an Apple logo + bar is MP51.0089.B00.

All 1xx.0.0.0.0 firmware updates have a white screen with GPUs with pre-boot configuration support and black screen with anything else.

MAKE SURE you have the full installer. Apple has been sending the smaller version to many on the USA East Coast the past several updates.

The script works best for me:

Could be too, but a lot of security people have being advocating HT to be disabled for hardened installs.
