Finally the CDN I'm connected updated.

Checked FirmwareUpgrade.pkg and no new firmware update to MP61 this week too.

Yep, there ya go. Hadn't thought of that. Guess that's what we get for circling like vultures, waiting to pick up the next package for extraction just minutes after it comes out. :p
Yep, it's a lot worse for me, most of the time I have to use a VPN to get the SUCatalog around Apple release time.

I've had a few random anomaly's from time to time as well, but I don't think CCC is to blame. There is most likely some other nonsense going on. It happens... At least you're on the right track.

Sometimes, when I switch boot drives, it shows properly in the startup disk applet, but gives same behavior. It's rare, but as I haven't been cloning from or to the aforementioned drives, I don't think it has anything to do with CCC in my case. I believe it's a startup disk selector issue. I had this happen long before I used CCC. It started either in late High Sierra or first DP of Mojave. It (for me) has mostly went away by the time Mojave was released, so I heavily suspect it's related to this macOS version's handling of startup disk settings. Perhaps it's not properly writing to the NVRAM all the time.

I don't know, I'm out of ideas. Check the UUID's as mentioned before to either confirm or eliminate that suspect.

Well, I don't know what's causing it at this point. I checked UUID and they are different. It wouldn't let me reformat the hdd so I booted into high sierra and reformatted the volume and now it's playing nice. Waiting on a backup tonight and we'll see if it reverts back to this odd behavior.hopefully I'm back to normal.

Ok, I recevied the IOCrest PCIe 3.0 x16 to 2x M.2 adapter card today.

Performance with a single 970 EVO blade :
View attachment 797670

Interestingly though adding a second 970 EVO blade and creating a soft-raid0 group didn't improve performance. Actually Read performance dropped by about 100MB/s and Write performance rose by about the same.

Also interesting; it's two devices in system report :

I wonder if it's working correctly, I'lll move it around a bit and test some more.

Thanks for sharing. It looks like the maximum bandwidth from the asmedia chipset is 2900. Slightly under the expected 3000 mb/s that an x8 connection can deliver. The extra bandwidth is likely lost in the pcie 2.0 to 3.0 conversion.

In either case, a nice bump from 1500 mb/s

This BootROM have a interesting characteristic that I only heard about but never saw before, personality server. Some refurbished Macs and Apple repaired ones have similar info in this area too.

This one is a 2010 Mac Pro Server.

I almost ended my backlog of BootROMs to reconstruct. If anyone needs checking/correcting, get in touch.

the Acorn card looks promising...

what do you guys suggest for a triple boot setup? win10 efi for games, osx for video production, and linux for running servers [file server etc].
i was thinking of getting a 1 or 2 slot nvme card and using win and osx on them and then putting linux on an ssd. probably raid 3 or 4 ssd [or hdd] in the sata bays.

the priority would be win10 on nvme. i don't have very demanding throughput needs right now.

the plan is to use the nvme inside a new build in a few years, after the 7nm process releases. this is my only machine besides a cell phone until i build a new one. new rig will likely be gaming oriented and i will keep this machine as a render node and file/back up server

De-lid, after testing throughly. I never had much luck with washers. It’s easy to de-lid with a little blowtorch after you cut the glue.

Hi Tsialex, just out of curiosity, how do you test a X5680 with IHS before de-lidding? I'm days away from de-lidding my 2 X5680's with the kitchen torch for the Creme Brûlée.

I have two MP4,1 here, one single and a dual, so I installed the X5680 into the single board, no problems until know.

The second one did not arrive yet, I'll continue testing until it arrives, then I'll test the second for some time too.

I've only 1 4.1 cMP so no testing for me. Going in blind!
I saw a single tray last week on eBay for less than $80 with shipping. I think that is a good buy to test CPUs, if you have a friend nearby that wants to do the same upgrade, buy a single tray and test all CPUs before de-lidding.

My X5680's (china - used) cost only 33 euro, so I can try several before buying a used tray which cost over 100 euro before I have it delivered in Gouda, the Netherlands.

So I finally dumped my bootrom (still on 84) and ran binwalk on an old MBP I have for development and the like. I don't see any of the weird things people have mentioned before, is mine good?

Seems clean, but binwalk don't show PanicInfos, hardwareIDs problems or checksum errors.

Use this info to upgrade to MP51.0089.B00 and then to 138.0.0.0.0: MP5,1: What you have to do to upgrade to Mojave. Read this too #436.

You don't need to install 10.13.6 or Mojave, just use the full Mac App Store installers to upgrade your BootROM.

I'm fine with staying on the old bootrom for now, at least until 140 is out officially. Just wanted to make sure there were no red flags at present.

Thanks!
You will have to upgrade to MP51.0089.B00 anyway before 138.0.0.0.0 or 140.0.0.0.0, so start upgrading :p

Haha I'm aware of that- since I don't have any real need to boot off of NVME or anything like that, I'm really in no rush right now. I'll get around to it at some point :D
