Has anyone tried using the MadCatz Gamepad the apple store sells with this? It seems like it's constantly pushing "up" and there doesn't seem to be any way to calibrate it. It makes the game unplayable and that makes me sad :( if there are any drivers or calibration steps I need to take I would be very greatful.

Good news,

Can you provide your system specs for us, video card, etc.

Many thanks,

Jim

i have the previous version imac 24". 2.16 dual core, 3 GB RAM, with the lowly 7300 gt 128 mb vid card. using the logitech cordless rumplepad 2. madden has never really been a resource hungry game. additional RAM may be helping though as normally the game will "dump" overflow to the RAM. played for a few hours last night and not one glitch.

game specs per the box require an intel mac with 1 GB RAM.

I would suspect then that it would run ok on my Mac Pro with the Nvidia 7300GT 256MB card and 5G or ram. Do you use any external speakers like Bose or the internal speaker?

yeah it should run even better on your setup there. for speakers i use my imac's audio out into a vintage technics receiver. i have regular bookshelf speakers (vintage british missions) and a pretty nice subwoofer (onix x-sub from av123). sounds really nice. i have the speakers for listening to music (i'm a bit of an audio snob) and can't stand the standard desktop speakers (logitech, etc.) but, they also sound really good on games and movies too.

Help

I'm trying to play Madden 08 on my new iMac. According to the system requirements, I shouldn't have any problems. It looks great, but I'm having trouble viewing all of the menu and pull down options. I'm also using the Mad Catz controller that was on the Apple site...it also is not working properly. I noticed in this forum that others are also having this issues but there has yet to be an answer. Any suggestions? Is there another controller that I can use that will work? Using my keyboard is painful!

i just picked up this game today. it seems alright so far. the graphics aren't all that great, compared to the xbox 360. i need a gamepad though, the keyboard is tough

I do not have a game machine to compare it to from my MBP but seeing a game on my son's 360 makes me wish I had one sometimes!! I am sure Madden on the Big-Screen would be a blast!!

Bill....:D

well i use my computer monitor as my tv also, so i play both my mac and 360 version on the same screen.

i'm not into computer games all that much. i decided to give this one a try, since i like sports games, and there aren't many mac games out there. i'm not going to take the game back or anything though. i was just a little disappointed in the graphics

I picked up an xbox 360 wired controller and installed the os X drivers, found here http://tattiebogle.net/index.php/ProjectRoot/Xbox360Controller/OsxDriver
and everything works great. Kicking is really wonky though and i'm not sure if that's the driver or the controller not playing nicely or not, i didn't have this much trouble kicking on the xbox version at my friend's house.

all in all i'm pleased, i'm just bummed about how horrible that mad catz controller is.

It (Madden for PC) looks damned good on my Mac running Windows in Boot Camp. I don't know what it looks like on an XBox.

I can use a Logitech RumblePad in Windows. Sweet! :D

Andy comparisons between the XP and Mac versions?

how do you play the game in a window?

nevermind, i figured it out. press command+return

well the xbox 360 looks great. the mac version looks more like PS2 graphics.

playing on my mac pro at the highest settings. it runs smooth, but looks up every so often. anyone else had the game lock up on them?

So far no lock-ups on mine. "Knock On Wood!".

well i'm trying to figure out if it's my computer, or the game.

last night i left the game running all night, and this morning the computer was froze. i left the game playing by itself (cpu vs cpu).

i guess i'll try it on my mbp and see if i get the same problem.

can you switch teams during a game?

I am pretty sure you can. But to do it, you would need to save the game and then exit to main menu and then load the file and then pick sides. I have done that on the PC version of 04 but not this version.

MadCatz Controller

I am running Madden 08 and the game is awesome although the using the keyboard sucks. I got this MadCatz controller but it isn't working. It seems like it needs to be calibrated but I can't find a way to do that. If anyone has figured it out, please let me know.

The game freezes sometime too. I can play fine for a while and then it'll just seize up.

Also, the online features aren't working yet, but I read somewhere that they're on it.

Anyways, really hoping someone can help me figure this out.

Thanks,
Dreamberg

what computer do you have?

the game freezes my mac pro, but seems to work fine on my macbook pro. at least so far

i've read that the new aluminum imacs are having issues with the game. if you're getting freezes on the mac pro but not the MBP- is the machine (mac pro) overheating (just a guess)?

anyone heard anything about an update or fixing the online play? i do enjoy playing the game although you need to bump up to all pro- pro is way too easy. but, EA i see, is still as slow as ever about issuing game fixes. when i go to online play it says to click update button and i do not see an update button anywhere... i'm still kind of shocked online doesn't work out of the box.

i'm giving it a try on my mac pro again. i installed the firmware update to my ATI video card. hopefully it'll work now. it works great on my macbook pro.
