I am running Madden 08 and the game is awesome although the using the keyboard sucks. I got this MadCatz controller but it isn't working. It seems like it needs to be calibrated but I can't find a way to do that. If anyone has figured it out, please let me know.

The game freezes sometime too. I can play fine for a while and then it'll just seize up.

Also, the online features aren't working yet, but I read somewhere that they're on it.

Anyways, really hoping someone can help me figure this out.

Thanks,
Dreamberg

I'm running a 17" Mac Book Pro with 2GB Ram. The game runs alright although it freezes more than it should. The problem is the MadCatz controller within the game. The controller works fine when I test it in freeware testing programs, it just freaks out in the Madden game.

does the game freeze? or does it freeze your whole computer and you have to do a hard restart?

try running your pro for a little while with one of the side panels removed. just put the open tower somewhere where it can't get kicked or anything. i know it sounds dumb but, i used to be a PC (forgive me) tech for many years. this was the simplest way for me to determine if a computer was overheating. it's a stab in the dark but, it'll take you 30 seconds to pop that side panel off and it's an easy free way to troubleshoot. it may not be the computer itself that is overheating but, the vid card itself overheating running the game. but getting more air in there may tell you if it is at least an overheating issue or not. if it does help you may check to see if the vid card is caked with dust, if the card heatsink is bad, etc...

i might try that. i did recently open it up and clean it with compressed air though. i was having problems before that, and that seemed to solve them, except for this problem.

yeah it works great on my mbp, but the fans run pretty loud the whole time though

Something is wrong with the port. I'm glad I haven't bought it.

It hasn't locked up once in XP
(running Boot Camp) since I bought it in August.

Was this port by Aspyr or MacSoft?

hasn't locked up once on my previous build imac either. runs perfect. the issues i have seen (or heard of) are on the aluminum imacs. not sure why it would affect them.

if you have had a little success with blowing out the case insides then i would wager it is a heat issue. maybe on the card itself.

tried playing after installing Leopard and ALL the text is totally screwed up. Since EA's website doesn't even really acknowledge the Mac as a platform I'm kinda at a loss. Hopefully they figure something out soon, I'll post here if i find anything.

strange, my white imac is playing it just as good since i installed leopard. FWIW i did a erase and install and imported my user settings and apps back in with migration tool.

Did you do that from another Mac or a backup of your system prior to your install of Leopard? Currently I have my "Tiger" backed-up with "Superduper". I did that prior to installing Leopard. I wonder if I can use Migration Tools to use with my Back-Up since I made it bootable and its on my Firewire....

have you tried it on 10.5 yet?

Having the same problem as Micah. After looking at previous posts I tried it last nite and its all messed up. Left a troublereport with EA who says its a problem with the driver for the ATI cards which EA is currently working with Apple to correct. How soon? I am not holding my breath...

well i had backed up my system with superduper prior to installing leopard. i installed leopard twice on the same system.

the first time i did an archive and install and at first i was happy with the OS performance so i went ahead and reformatted the external (which had superduper clone on it) to use with Time Machine- which erased the superduper clone. after 24 hours i noticed the OS- the dock, mall.app, etc. was running a little choppy so i did a erase and install and used time machine this time with migration to reimport all my apps back so yes it was from the same mac. yesterday was the first time since friday i fired up madden after reading this thread and all was well.

it may be an issue with the ati cards- is your mac an aluminum imac? i have read the jumbled text error reports quite a few of the new imacs- which i guess have the ati chip in them?

to answer you thoughts though: yes do clean erase and install. when migration pops up you can either choose import settings from another drive or another mac. if you are going to choose "another mac" you need to turn off your external that has superduper on it and then turn it back on and migration will read it as another mac. but using the import from another drive should work just as well. you can choose to reimport- settings- user profile- apps and docs.

I have a MBP with 2G Ram which has the ATI1600 256MB of Ram. I backed up to a "500G WD MY Book" my "TIGER" which included all files and the last thing it did was make it bootable. Its connected thru my Firewire. So if I did a clean install and used the Migration Tool (Is this on the Disk or In Utilities?), I would connect the My-Book thru the Firewire to the MBP and then use the Migration Tool to pull all the data from there or would I need to use Superduper? Thanks!!

Update;Did a clean reload. Only problem was I guess I renamed the account the original name and when I did the migration transfer it did not help. Still cannot play Madden. So I am at a loss. Unless I need to not select any answers when you do a clean reload other than to creat a new user other than the original user and try that. I also tried reloading Madden and still no joy! Any Ideas?

Bill.....

no i selected everything but docs on the migration. i used my same user account and brought in all my old apps. not sure what the issue is there for you. i just hope that apple has the 10.5.1 update out quick. i'm sure they are already working on it. i'm having a few small issues but for the most part i guess i've been lucky

here is how you do the clean install migrate.

1- pop in leopard disc and restart

2- go thrugh all the screens till you get to the install options.

3- select clean install (or erase and install whatever it is)

4- read a book

5- WHILE the mac restarts after install turn off external with superduper clone.

6- on reboot watch intro then migration comes up.

7- select another mac - should prompt you to turn on other mac. fire up external.

8- migration asks what you want to bring over- check each box. delete uneeded stuff manually.

9- read book...

IF your external isnt firewire and is USB- just let leave it on and when migration pops up click import then select the drive with superduper on it and do the same thing.

if thats how you did it cool if not you can try it again but, not sure if IT WILL fix it.

I did pretty much the same thing except I left my Firewire Drive turned On and it saw it. Also when Leopard reboots it asks for a LOGIN name and Password along with (.mac info), etc. So I named it the same as when TIGER was installed. Next I did Migration Assistant and it only gave me three options one of which was greyed out which was the "library". Also had to use a new name and for the folder and login. So not sure if that was right or should I re-do it again and use a different name for when Leopard first starts. Works fine with exception of Madden and the shared network drive issues that others are also having....

I just did a clean reinstall and deleted Madden and the plist files. Is there anything else to remove from a Tiger Build I should remove prior to re-installing? Any word from Apple or EA?

Bill......:(

I did see where Apple came out with an Update to some of the computers (MBP and IMac 2007 Versions) I beleive to fix some stability problems. But not sure what. As far as anybodies else with an Intel Processor Mac they have provided nothing so far. EA, as usual is doing its normal thing. Nothing...

How bad are these two games ?? And does Apple know there is a PROBLEM.
I bought both of these via the Appel store OPENED, installed and TRIED to run them. BOTH have problems as we all know... I contacted Apple and was allowed to RETURN opened software.... NOW thats a first... just an FYI
