Mage: can you please help? I tried deleting the app and reinstalling and when it finished asking me for the prefs, it just got stuck on searching for signal. I knew it wasn't going to find anything because the purple gps indicator was not showing at the top of my iPhone. When I quit the app and came back in, it gives me the "receiver is off" message and there is no red turn on button to select.

Again, Maps is still working fine so I don't think the problem is my iPhone. Please advise!

Trihard,

Hi Trihard,

Sorry for the issues. There are many different explanations for why this might be occurring so bear with me if some of these solutions sound too simple.

I'm gonna assume you're not in airplane mode as that would disable your GPS. When the Location services asked if you it could use current location did you accidentally choose no?

If you did, try closing the app in the task manager (by double clicking the menu button, holding down the Magellan icon and clicking the (-) on the top right corner of the icon). After restarting the app it should ask you about location services. Please choose yes.

Here is a number to call if that still does not solve your problem.

800 707 9971

Please let me know how it goes.

i think you missed a day

haha oops! I should've changed that! That was the last one!

App went live today! Give it a download and let me know what you think.

There will be a Promotion up soon and also a few videos explaining the features!

Still having problems

Mage,

Thanks for responding. Not in airplane mode. As I said, Maps is working fine, along with other apps that use GPS like Navigon and TWC just to name a few. It does not ask me about my location at any time. Just sits there and spins at "Looking for GPS signal..."

I have tried killing it from the task mgr and still comes back and says, "Looking for GPS Signal", but no purple GPS indicator at the top showing it is trying to use GPS. I tried deleting it yet again and redownloading 1.3.1, and still I have the same problem.

I just tried calling the number above, and they told me I had to call a different number, which just turned out to be Apple Care! I believe this to be a Magellan software issue and not an Apple issue, so if you could find the appropriate MAGELLAN iPhone technical support, that might help. I am very frustrated, as at least the earlier version worked. Now as is, it is completely useless!

I'm working on getting you a solution. I'll have something for you tomorrow.

If you prefer, please PM me your phone number and a good time to call you. You'll hear from us asap.

Thanks Mage, but I was able to get it working. It turns out that somehow it had turned off location services for itself, and after turning it on, deleting the app and then re-installing yet again, it now works. You might want to tell the developers that an error message saying that location services have been turned off (instead of the GPS receiver) would have been much more helpful.

Glad it's working properly!

I've let the developers know. Let me know if you have any more questions!

I have downloaded the lastest version. I'm using it with an iPhone 4 and the Magellan car kit. I have used it in the Montreal, canada metro region. The voice directions are very good; the app correctly guided me in on my way our of the Dorval airport, where there are several lane shifts and merging to do.

Right now my main issue is that I don't have text to speech. The voice directions will simply state "take the next right" or "turn right" but the name of the exits or streets are never spoken. Isn't the app supposed to announce street names?

I'm using the app with the French Canadian interface and voice guidance.

Thanks in advance for the help. I filed a support request on Magellan web site five days ago and have not recieved any answer yet.

Hi Boum,

Thanks for the comment.

The text-to-speech function is available in French. If you go to Voice Languages in Settings there are two sets of options. The top one is "Spoken Street Names - TTS" and the bottom one is "Standard Navigation Voices." For French, Charlotte and Olivier are the text to speech options. You may have chosen Madeline and Alan (non-TTS options).

Please check this and let me know if this issue has been solved or you have any more questions.

Thanks,

Mage

Thanks Mage for the reply. I apparently never saw that the voices selection page was split in two sections. I tried before both Madeline and Alan. I just tried Charlotte and Olivier, and both work fine for the text-to-speech.

I'd like to report that there is a problem with these two french voice selections; I switched to "Dave" for english directions with text-to-speech; in english Dave says "at end of the road". I have listened many times to the french translation of "at end of the road" and still have absolutely no idea what Charlotte or Olivier are trying to say :) The other directions I have heard in french so far are ok.

I bought the car kit a few weeks ago and thought it was not affected by the music going to both the cat kit's speaker and the AUX out. Yesterday I was not able to avoid my iPhone's music being played on both the kit's speakers and the AUX out. However it was also the first time I used the Roadmate app's music player; previously I was using only the iPod app on my phone. Mage, since you said this AUX issue was resolved in the second version of the car kit, can you detail a bit about 1) is this car kit being sold now? 2) since I just bought my car kit, is it possible that it is the second version? How can I tell if my car kit is the first or second version?
