I’m a bit confused about Magsafe, are we getting both magsafe and the regular lightning charging way? If yes, why?

I'm certain there will be a charging port if they are including the cable. Personally, I'd rather have the port because I still sync my phone connect to my MBP.

sorry I meant, now with Magsafe is there still a port at the bottom? I assume yes but why

Yes, it’s the same as almost every phone on the market right now. You have a port for wired charging and you have a wireless charging coil in the back of the phone for wireless charging.

MagSafe will enhance the wireless charging experience immensely by being able to attach the charger to the phone.

I wonder why they kept both now that you can charge and use the phone like normal with magsafe, maybe for backups but then again I’m sure in the near future Iphones will no longer have any ports

MagSafe on the iPhone isn’t a standard because it didn’t exist before today.

I guarantee the next iPhones or the ones after will not have a port for a cable. They will be 100% MagSafe. This is Apple’s future charging solution that we are looking at. There will be a lot less complaining next year if there’s already thousands of these MagSafe charging accessories on the market.

Ahh i see , absolutely I agree

Magsafe will ensure proper charging when magnetically attached at the back of the phone. Unlike other wireless chargers, sometimes if you dont place it correctly, it wont charge. It happens to me from time to time and it’s incredibly annoying when you forgot check it, only to realise that your phone didn’t charge in the first place after placing there for hours.

Anyone been able to find out how long the MagSafe cable is, looked everywhere lol 🥺

really can’t stand apples 1m cables they fall off the desk so easily, better be 2m.

CarPlay is still a key use of the Lightning port. If your vehicle doesn't have wireless CarPlay built in, you're kinda still relying on that port. It's one thing to tell people to upgrade their $1,000 phone, quite another to tell them to upgrade their $50,000 car.

My guess is that Apple will introduce their own wireless CarPlay adapter at such time as they finally do away with the iPhone's physical port altogether. There are third-party ones on the market already, though I haven't tried any.

Agreed. Seeing as it is only brand new vehicles that are just now getting wireless CarPlay, I don’t see Apple just getting rid of the lightning port in at least the next couple phones. People like QI but it has its flaws. IMO, Apple will need to keep a way to have a hardwire connection to the phone at minimum for diagnostic reasons.

Will it? I mean I understand MagSafe if you don't have a lightning port on the phone. But, since we do, this seems like a solution in search of a problem? I don't really know why I would buy this. I mean the fact it doesn't require you to plug in a lightning connector doesn't seem to do much. I still have to use a USB-C port to plug in the MagSafe charger. I can't think of a situation where I would want to use this instead a regular lightning cable. I use AirPods so don't use that port for anything except charging. Am I missing something?

If you mean out of the box? No only the phone and the cable, that's it. No other accessories.
That's all we're getting in the box. I hate 2020 lol.

The only advance they have introduced is the magnets. Since iPhone 8 wireless charging is possible. They just made it cooler, more convenient and allowed for faster wireless charging, but they have not added any real function that the phone did not have since 4 years ago.

I will be interested to see MagSafe smart charger case or pouch similar to the size of MagSafe leather pouch. It will be quite handy for pocketability and on the demand usage.

Yes my new Merc on order has a wireless charging pad and wireless CarPlay. I can’t see myself ever using the lightening port again

More than enough I’ve got 4 apple branded quick charging bricks already, I’ll be adding a MagSafe charger to the collection this Friday 😬😂🤦‍♂️
I just don't want to use old iPhone chargers to the brand new shiny iPhone. I know third world problem lol. OCD is kicking in...

Feels like I'm going to be buying a brand new car with old tires or old battery in it LOL.

Interesting to see that the MagSafe charger also works with older iPhones. Seems the charging technology is the same, they just added the magnets.

Yes, it will. Wireless charging is super convenient, there’s a reason it is included in basically all phones these days.

Now, Apple just fixed the biggest issue with wireless charging, not putting the phone in the exact necessary position. With that issue eliminated there’s no reason to use a lightning cable ever again.

Nice!!!! Get to test it out on my xs max while I wait for my 12 pro max to arrive. 😂
