That sounds crappy. Lol But to think, iTunes on a computer was a big thing for them. Now not so much but we need options for local backups not just iCloud, you know. I just don’t see how they can get rid of that port for data transfer purposes.
A Robust airdrop system to download/upload to and from your mac would solve the problem.

I don't really get Mag Safe. It seems like a step backwards. To me, part of what makes wireless charging, well wireless charging, is being able to put your iPhone on the charging mat at many different angles and still getting a charge. Now we are moving away from charging pads and back to a wire that attaches to the device? I guess I'm just not seeing the benefit of the Mag Safe adapter over the normal lightning charger.

Also, just curious, will the mag safe charger be able to charge the phone when the additional accessories, such as the wallet, is stuck onto the case? Or do you have to pull the wallet off each time you charge it so that the mag safe charger sits against the actual phone case (or actual back of the phone)?

CarPlay is going wireless now and they will have a solution for the ones that currently require wires.
There are a couple of car manufactures that are doing wireless but even if they "all" do in the next couple of years people aren't going to trade in cars so that they can do wireless CarPlay because Apple decided they all should. If they are truly going port less then Apple needs a solution such as a MagSafe that does both charging and "wireless" to wired CarPlay. Of course wireless when you still have to plug the MagSafe into a port is strange definition. Similar to cord cutters who still need cords for Internet, etc.
Proven solutions are needed before getting rid of ports -to me. Also, the cost of all this vs. the cost of 1 cord to do charging and CarPlay is a consideration.

I’d be curious to see how removing the lightning port would affect developers. To the best of my knowledge, you still need to plug in your phone to test apps. Is this something that WiFi could reasonably take over for? If not, I don’t see the port going away anytime soon.

I never insinuated that any of that would happen. I said Apple will have to come up with a solution for cars which require wires for CarPlay and that’s exactly what will happen.

I agree with this. MagSage IMO is wasted effort as it stands right now. USB-C is a far better investment in the environment if an investment is to be had.

Would magsafe provide accurate enough registration with an accessory that you could add a smart connector on the back of the phone and it’d line up well? That could be a possible option for data connection with a PC/Mac in future?
