I may have spoke too soon. Originally after updating to iOS 18.3 mail wasn’t downloading without the app open, but I just had 1 email download now without opening the mail app or charging on both my iPad and iPhone.

It may have been a fluke, but it’s a good sign.

The problem getting email quickly was resolved for our family after updating to 18.3. Other issues like trash deletion and seeing previous emails instead of current will need more testing to verify a fix has really occurred.

I had a similar experience to you. At first it didn't appear to be working as I received a couple emails on my Mac that didn't seem to come through on my iOS devices, but as I went on with my day I started get mail notifications on both my iPhone and iPad without having the app open or being hooked up to a charger. Hopefully this is a good sign. Funny how strange email notifications are after not receiving them for 4 months.

Yeah I’m going to hesitantly say this is fixed. I have 2 devices that have been downloading emails the past several hours for the first time in months.

For those of you that have emails in the trash set to automatically delete after X days. Is that working for you? Emails in my trash do not auto delete since iOS 18.

My Mail appears to be fixed too on iPhone and iPad now on 18.3.

I have my deleted mail set to be cleared each day but it doesn't look like that's working, although, I think that was always a bit hit and miss for me in the past anyway.
