635k... now its just below 631 k...

----------

I downloaded the app on the first day but was too busy to bother with it. Today I saw this thread and decided to check if the reservation was automatic based on when you installed the app or if you had to run the thing to get in line.

759,000 which is about 10 days if they are activating one a second. It's pretty funny that if I close the app and come back a half hour later, the "people behind you" and "people in front of you" counters go crazy counting to their new values.

BTW, perhaps a mod could move this thread to iPhone and iPod Touch apps? There is no way a mailbox app thread belongs in jailbreaks and ios hacks.

Yea it should be moved... The thing is this section has become the homepage for many people... So sometimes you don't realise...

Also this app is starting off with just gmail support... There's word it will support all email very soon... I'm not sure about icloud support though...

And it is much slower than one a second...

What's wrong with the gmail app? it's perfect why would I need a fancy new client while gmail does it all and also includes gestures...

don't get me wrong this app has potential but it doesn't offer value to me I really use hotmail and outlook.com mail now (don't judge me outlook mail is amazing) and well this app launched without microsoft mail clients support

There's nothing wrong with the gmail app. It's still a superior client vs Mailbox in it's current state. The few gmail gestures however are not the same. To label something it takes 5 taps vs 2 (swipe + tap) in Mailbox. Archive/Delete is 2 vs 1. And so far, the read it later function is been very useful for me. There's still important features missing (spam, folder access, aliases, etc...) but like you said, it has a lot of potential.

Got it last night. Here's my take.
For me it is a different workflow than what I am used to. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there with Gmail that already archive received messages, but I never did that. I would simply apply a label, mark as read and keep it in the inbox. So basically my inbox IS my ALL MAIL folder. Probably not efficient, but it's just the way I did it.
Now with Mailbox app the whole idea is to have a zero inbox so any received messages need to be read now or later and then archived or deleted. That is a different workflow for me but I may get used to it. And in reality probably makes more sense.

539,xxx people in front of me.

Their adorable little graph showing the rate of reservations filled going up exponentially is fun and all, but the rate has been nearly constant. It's certainly not going up exponentially. It'll be at least a month till people in the middle/back of the line can use the app. I've been queued for almost 5 days, and moved less than 90,000 spots.

It looks pretty fantastic, but I've got $10 that says it dies a very early death due to user abandonment from them forcing people to wait (and it is forcing, despite what they say ... they now know what sort of load they'd need to support, so there's nothing stopping them from enabling the infrastructure to support it, and then activating everyone.)

Just got my invite and I have pretty much the same feelings as you. When gmail came out, it was billed as the email service that was so big that you never had to delete anything... so thats what I did. I mark everything as read, but its all still in my inbox. Mailbox gives me a badge on the icon that says 13,000. No way to use the labels (which I use a lot) that I can see either. I'm sure some people will love it, but it's not for me. I'm deleting it.

That sounds annoying. I have no desire to archive or delete my read messages. Doesn't sound like this is for me.

Stupid pre-release marketing gimmick. They also don't make it clear before downloading the app that you are downloading a reservation ticket.

I deleted the app, and could care less if I lose my spot.

Backfired apparently with the negative reviews they are getting. People aren't likely to go back and edit their negative review based on the reservation gimmick. They just sunk their review in the app store.

I deleted the app... I think the stock app will do just fine... One month of waiting... bleh...

It was exponential up to a point. It was going painfully slow the first few days. There is something stopping them from enabling the infrastructure: man power (team of 11?) and $$$. There must be about 100K users right now yet I still see hiccups in their servers with push notifications being delayed here and there (5-15 minutes) the past 2 days. I'm sure they could add at a faster rate or more users in general. There is a little marketing genius in it but I'm not too sure they could actually add a million accounts in one swoop without consequence. It's a free app after all.

Funny because the 1 star reviews are by those still in line or mad at the reservation system and the 5 star reviews are from those that actually have used it. Either way, a lot of positive buzz from tech sites across the web. They'll do just fine on the pre-release hype alone.

I think what he's saying is that even though Italy be a good app, they have a horrible App Store rating. Which probably won't get them on the featured list or top of anything. It also will make users searching pass right over it with out second look. This is a very simplistic email client. Nothing fancy and nothing for people that actually use email for business. It need more support and needs a Beta. Not a marketing ploy that pisses everyone off.

I finally got down to zero people ahead of me, but it has gone to showing negative numbers of people ahead of me and it won't do anything. Can't use it. What now? Am I missing something?

This "app" sucks.

You're the typical person who rates this app 0 stars because you have no common sense. Sad.

I'm on 9K now, only hours away!
Their support is great btw. Amazing support, which btw, goes really fast.

Does the Gmail app do push yet? I remember when it first came out, it didn't, so I immediately deleted it. I use the stock Mail app with Exchange to get my Gmail instantly pushed. Without that, the Gmail app is pretty useless to me.

But if the answer is yes, then I will be downloading it again :D

I agree it did backfire on them a bit and will alienate some of their potential customers. But I don't think the AppStore reviews will ultimately hinder their success. The interest is obviously there despite of it. Also the reviews that have more exposure and credibility (tech sites, blogs, forums) are mostly positive. The app still fills a niche that no one else really addresses (ie; Clear for todo lists). I wonder how long until google decides to add a similar read it later function.

Yes it does. I used exchange for the last 2 years but google deciding to drop ios support (new users) made me try out the gmail app. There is a few things I prefer in the stock mail app but overall I find the gmail app a superior client. It's just the interface (visually) I'm not a huge fan of. Un-apple like in a sense. Very smooth and clean however. Probably the same reason I prefer Apple maps over google maps.

Good to know. I'll check it out today.

What do you mean that Google dropped iOS support though? Do you mean for push mail via Exchange, using the stock Mail app? I haven't heard about this yet. I have my mail, contacts, and calendar synced with my Gmail account and everything works flawlessly with my iPhone (with one exception: crappy quality contact pics).

If you set up your GMail using Exchange before Jan 30th you will continue to be able to use it.

I have no common sense? Do you even read what you type? Being that you haven't even got to zero yet (therefore, you have no idea what you are talking about) why don't you enlighten me as to what the problem is? This should be interesting.

You are just being an ass.

So I had a question as I'm patiently waiting (just under 50K at the moment)...

Can you sign into multiple Gmail accounts as it currently stands with mailbox? Or are you limited to 1 currently?

If you can sign into multiple accounts, are all messages shown in a single view or can you select which account you're looking at (ie separate view for each account)?

You still haven't used the app... And you already needed to contact support...! Hmmm...

If it handled more than gmail, I might be interested. But I have three email accounts from different sources...

ya. i dont even use gmail.

still i got it. it doesnt hurt to have it counting down in the background and im hoping that by the time my turn is up it will support hotmail and icloud.

i think they said they are definitely adding support for other services.
