Wow....not expecting such a lackluster upgrade after all the talk of a big update for iPad this year.

Literally none of the power features people were asking for. At this point, it's probably safe to assume that Apple is happy with state of iPad and doesn't need an overhaul. Message is that if you're a power user, just get a Mac.

So….I guess that M1 doesn’t matter or ever matter. Message received: iPad will never be a productivity device.

That was a pretty underwhelming list of improvements and features. Widgets are nice and I'll have to play with the improved multitasking, but is this really it? All that power and still limited more than ever by the OS.

My wallet is safe this year.
Yeah, I was holding off on upgrading until I saw what was announced, hoping against hope that the 16 GB of RAM was there for a reason. Glad I waited. I may still get a 256 GB version and hand my 2018 12.9 down to the family but sure won't waste money on a high end model.

Haha no monitor, no real multitasking, no pro app for 16go. I hope you will use yours 1to now ?
Personally, I have no need for running an external monitor from my iPad. And I didn't buy the 1tb / 16gb of RAM for my use today (although I did indeed want the extra storage)....I bought it so that I could be ready for improvements that will continue to roll out. Just because Pro apps weren't addressed today, it doesn't mean that they won't be coming.

At this point they’re giving it just about everything except what we want.

So happy I didn’t give in.

Another year, another reason to stick to MacOS!

I was really hoping they would have allowed for free-floating windows if the iPad detected a keyboard and mouse or external monitor. Similar to how MacOS emulated iPad apps. Sadly, it's still going to be a pain managing multiple windows at once. The multitasking improvements are very much tailored for 2 window at a time experience, which is unfortunate.

Keep promoting your apple services apple, instead of giving us features we’ve asked for years ago ?‍♂️?????

I understand the decision to wait....but I also think it's kind of naive to think that there won't be an advantage to it down the line. Companies don't just accidentally double the RAM for no reason. Apple could have simply kept everything at 8GB of RAM and only gave the higher storage capacity for the upgrade price. My guess is that there will be a point in time - possibly in the next year - where the lower end models will do OK with new features, but the 16GB models will have a clear advantage.

seriously .... this was the laziest multitasking improvements ever. They've had two years and this is what they came up?

and until that times comes I'll keep my money. But we've been waiting for iPad to take the next software leap forever.

I’m not returning my iPad because of a lousy iPadOS update. I’m keeping my iPad because I can use it to do what I want which is browsing online, games, photos, and whatever else. I didn’t buy the iPad based on the OS updates, I bought it for the hardware update from the old iPad I had, and the fact this iPad will keep me happy for years.
