I'm going to be crazy...

I have 2 Mac Pro 5.1 (mine is mid 2010 dual Xeon, and my wife's one, a late 2012, mono Xeon). Both with Big Sur and OC 0.6.7.

My Mac Pro goes perfect, without isues... but the other... the other will meke me crazy!! Some times, in a cold boot don't recognize the mouse or bluetooth... other times, when power up after hibernate, don't recognize the mouse or bluetooth... and other times, random, without hibernate, writing an email for example, the same trouble...

The bluetooth it's a USB dongle attached to the Apple's keyboard (the usb dongle it's ok, it's the third with the same issue). I was try to attach this dongle to the front and rear USBs directly... and the same issue...

It's like if all USB turn off, becouse the keyboard (I test with 2 keyboards) don't work too when the issue (for example, I press Caps Lock and don't brigth the led).

If I disconnect and connect again the keyboard, all will work again in 5-10 seconds...

Do you know what can be???

Big Sur has very poor support for legacy USB devices and controllers. It's slowly less dreadful with every new release from Apple and recent OC improvements helped a lot.

Some people noticed that using a USB hub between your legacy devices and your Mac Pro makes things are a lot better for your legacy USB devices. There are posts here about it.

I suppose with a powered USB Hub isn't it? I'll look for one...

Yes, but not all USB hubs follow the spec and the three old USB2.0 powered hubs I had here none helped. I ended buying a charging station with USB 3.0 hub from Orico. One friend got it working with a TPLink UH700 and another with Belkin one, but I forgot the model.

so when you guys say "legacy USB" are you referring to USB2 devices?

I just installed it to an old spinner, it's even usable on a spinner.

Don't say you have no old spinner with at least 40 GB to test BS ;-)

Hi all,

Just one quick question, is it necessary to install the usb map kext for 5,1 macpros? it is not mentioned at all in the guide.

Thanks!

Whatever for? I've heard some people are having USB problems with Big Sur and/or OpenCore on a Mac Pro 5,1. The only thing related to that I've experienced twice is that if I boot into High Sierra and then go back to Big Sur, I have no Bluetooth on the fist boot, but it returns for good after the second. Other than that, all USB 2.0 ports work fine, and my two USB-C Thunderbolt connectors also work fine (one of them is connected to a USB 3.1 hub).

I just installed Big Sur for a test run and my usb midi keyboard does not work at all with it. Doesn’t show up as even detected. I have various other usb dongles and a few devices that seem to be working, another usb midi interface I can’t test until later. Keyboard and mouse work so far. BT4 worked the first time I tried it, but we'll see what happens later.

but is there a work around for these broken usb scenarios? Also, are these legacy USB issues unique to we Open Core users or is this generally a problem for all Big Sur users even on new Macs?

I’m staying in test mode with Big Sur until all issues such as this are resolved.

Similar with me... I have a 3,1 w/ RX 560, I don't know if this will even work w/ a 3,1, check the 3,1 OC thread.

I have HW Accel enabled as per instructions on here. It is showing as enabled in VideoProc as well, however I can't get DRM to work correctly. Everything I try to stream I see nothing but a red screen. I do get audio but no video. Is there anyway to fix this?

Hey guys. I downgraded my Mac Pro 5,1 GPU to an HD 7950. It booted fine but the DP ports did not work. So I flashed the Mac Bios on to the HD 7950.

However, OpenCore boots to a black screen when using the Mac EFI on the HD 7950. It works fine without open core and supports boot screen fine natively with the MAC EFI. But OpenCore only works with the PC BIOS on the GPU. If I boot with the GPU on the MacEFI Opencore will boot to a black screen. Does anyone know what is going on?

Thank you!

Maybe something wrong in the config? I have the same card and it works like a charm with OC. Connected to two Apple displayport displays.

Is your card flashed with the Mac BIOS too? Or do you use the original bios? Thanks

Hi everybody,

I install a flashed GTX680 in my cMP 5,1. Following the windows 10 procedure from POST#1, everything's fine til I go through the last step. I lost video signal during the windows 10 setup. I tried with the GT120 too, same thing .. is there a way to get Windows 10 working with a flashed GTX680 and Opencore ? Thanks.

At the end, and soooo tired of problems, i made a legacy installation. Just select the Windows partition at boot, not the OC one. It works so so good.

Hey all, I figured I'd try installing a fresh copy of Big Sur from scratch. I have a working copy of Opencore 0.6.7 and I have the VMM flag on, the installer loads up fine, but when it comes to rebooting to finish off the installation, it keeps rebooting into an endless loop.

Anyone know what I'm missing?

EDIT: Opencore is booting off a USB drive, could that affect the installation process?

What did you do to exit the endless reboots? Or is your Mac just rebooting into macOS after the installer starts?

Note that booting OC from a USB drive should be fine as long as the drive is blessed properly, otherwise boot selection routing may fail, and that is important for installations and updates. Also, as mentioned in the wiki, the VMM flag is not needed in Big Sur provided that you've enabled hybridization.

Yes ! I didn't try that because I was afraid to kill the OC EFI boot, but yes ! Finally it's working :) Thanks a looooot ******* !
