And that's how they should approach the film to some extent. It would have been okay to not know some of Doctor Strange's motives. We didn't have to see magical Tony Stark.

I'm taking it you are also looking at as a comic book fan.

I never read Doctor Strange. I knew a little about him, but I didn't know how he came about. I am glad they did an Origin story.

While that is a strong point and a great idea,
for the general audience they had to go there in order to explain the multiverse. I missed the spoken spells big time though.

I enjoyed DS immensely, and as a long time fan am happy we got something closer to the original DS comics than the awful alt universe xerox being written now. He was written much like that in his origin. Not perfect, but like Bucky in the MCU, something I can recognize and enjoy.

If they ever do Moon Knight, Marc's live action film or series has to be a hard R rating. He is one character of the very few published in Marvel comics that has not been royally butchered in the last 3 years.

I grew up collecting comics and have long loved Marvel characters and a few from DC as well. I like what Marvel Studios is doing in that they are bringing stories from the books to the big screen. I find that entertaining and fun. In truth, that's all I really want from a cinematic experience. I understand why some folks get upset about certain details, but I guess I don't take it that seriously.

So anyone have some theories on Life > Venom? I watched Life last year and Venom was the first thing that came to mind. And that's me, someone who has brief interest in the subject of cinematic universes. I just Google'd it out and the theories are more rampant than the cockamamie theories that surfaced just after Life released in theaters.

I loved reading all of the hate towards the "Venom" trailer/teaser that just dropped. "Where is the suit?", "the suit must really suck, they didn't even show it!"

Seriously people, the movie just wrapped up shooting a few weeks ago. I am willing to be they don't have a lot of the special effects done yet and it probably wasn't ready for viewing.

When the trailer for "Life" premiered, that is one of the things a lot of the comic book folks in forums I visit started talking about. interesting theory though.

When it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I let a lot of things slide because by and large I recognize the characters on screen even with the tweaks. And in the case of Falcon, I think the MCU tweak made him an even more engaging and interesting character.

I would like see Hawkeye get his proper due though (hopefully that will happen. Give Renner something great to do.)

As far as Venom... I prefer the build up and am fine with no suit being shown in that first teaser. Keep that a surprise for the movie (with Hardy as Brock that may be somewhat scary once we see him bond with the organism.)

For me, because I was already familiar with the various 'designs' of Venom from his first appearances in the comics and various animations since then. Cal, the weird alien booger thingamajig didn't really tickle my Venom memory until he started growing larger and did some things that reminded me of some really old chats I'd had back when IRC was still a thing, and the weird interpretations I'd seen over time (my oldest nephew was somewhat into comics for a few years, he's into Spiderman, though, and the Hulk).

My memory is very fuzzy when it comes to the symbiotes, but I do remember finding the Black Spiderman Suit pretty neat. I just can't remember if that particular symbiote (suite) was evil or good.

I couldn't tell you, I never got into Spiderman in the comics. For the most part my comic book interest lie with Image and a lot of the other indie books companies with very little Marvel or DC. Hopefully someone else can answer your question.

From what little I have read, I thought it was more of a "punisher" style character, not good or bad, but more of taking people out if they are bad whether they did anything to the host or not. Almost like a Spiderman but not afraid to kill. That is how I always took him to be like.

I can't answer on what Venom's modus operandi is either; he's both a villain and an anti-hero. This entry is bit much but...gives the info. I would wage that Hardy's version in the movie would probably lean more toward the latter.

I never read much of Spider-Man either. Regardless of the publisher, I've always kept my reading to a select few characters.

Started collecting comics, and mostly Spider-Man, around the time Venom hit the scene so him finally having a movie on his own is good news. But since I'm mostly bored by all of the latest entries in the MCU I won't get too enthusiastic about it either for now. Although Hardy certainly seems like a nice choice.

IIRC Venom got less evil once he had to team up with Spidey the first time against Carnage (Cletus Kasady) - great villain btw - in the Maximum Carnage run. Fun times! :D

There is a transformation going from comic to movie that requires focus of story, and picking which story to tell versus an extended episodic tale. I don’t mind when they play fast and loose with the story as long as they are true to characters, and it would be nice if they were true to character relationships, which mostly they are not, (like Xavier and Magndto being buddies, which they never were! :p). Mostly I regret it when stories like The Dark Phoenix Saga are short changed. I realize I’m responding to an old post of yours. :)

Well it looks like we are getting another version of the "Dark Phoenix Saga" this year.

We are? Name of movie? :):) Oh, will they screw it up? I can always be wrong, but in my mind, I see the original X-Men cast and director as those best qualified to pull it off, but that time has passed. :(

Well, did do it, or at least tried something _like_ it with the original cast, and it was awful. Bryan Singer's original idea was to do the Phoenix story line across 2 movies, (it was hinted at and started in X2), but he bailed as director, and they kind of just munged up the story into a single movie without much regard to the source material.

While I don't think it's a great movie, the setup/handling - without getting too spoiler-y really hits the right notes in X-Men: Apocalypse. I actually like Last Stand and DoFP quite a bit, the Fassbender/McAvoy roles are really spot on, some of the other cast are a little flat, but it's tonally pretty good, and the Quicksilver segments are almost worth the price of admission.

FWIW, I have a long run of John Byrne X-men up in storage, including all the Phoenix material, beautiful mint, 1st editions :)
[doublepost=1518456411][/doublepost]Speaking of things that _are_ part of the MCU ... ;D

Anyone else stoked for Black Panther?

Yeah, X-Men 3 Last Stand, they blew it!

X-Men: Dark Phoenix. It is slated for a November 2nd, 2018 release. So far I have only seen pictures, no trailer/teaser yet.

If it’s with young X-men, I won’t get excited in advance. The series of XMen movies after the first two have mostly dissapointed me, though The Wolverine Origins movie was great for me.

You didn't like First Class, Days of Futures Past, or Apocalypse? These are my favorite X-Men movies.

I did not like the first two you mentioned, especially First Class, a too many glossed over mutant, ensemble movie. I prefer more focus, individual Wolverine -style character development and admit, I was really vested in the original X-Men actors and actresses. Don’t think I saw Apocalypse.

There was at least one amazing movie, one of the best superhero movies ever, that was the FF in spirit :D

The Incredibles

AIAS on June 15th for the sequel.
Granted animated movies have freedoms live action does not, but it is still impressive how incredibly The Incredibles kicks the crap out of MANY live action super hero movies that with the amount of CGI are practically animated features themselves.

Right? Pixar also pushes the right buttons in terms of character development, script, The Incredibles had a terrific narrative on family dynamics, being different and _embracing_ that as a positive thing, such great chemistry with the voice actors.

What does Right? mean? :)

Regarding voice actor chemistry, my impression is that often actors record their parts in solitude, so if there is the appearance of chemistry, that is impressive too. :)

Looking forward to the sequel!

I am looking forward to Black Panther but am so busy, won't be able to see it for some time. I hope it will still be in theatres by the time I can get a chance to see it. If not, I'll rent as soon as possible. I'll be surprised if Disney actually releases it before Infinity War, but they just might since Thor and Doctor Strange were both November theater releases with February digital home video dates.
