Luke Miani is getting to that point too.
Oh, I absolutely agree. I think they've all gone downhill since 2020. They just keep getting wealthier and wealthier... which is fine, but don't exploit that. Never thought I'd say this, but I actually don't enjoy watching tech YouTube anymore for this reason. I've also just lost interest in tech in general. Just seems like it's a way for people to exploit their wealth, which is disgusting.

They've been clickbait since day 1... Where have you been?

Honestly though, the majority of the tech channels have become nothing more than advertisers imo.
I agree! Here's what you (collectively) have to understand: If something works for you, it works for you. What works for you might not work for me, and that's okay. It is not up to an influencer to judge you. Unfortunately, the "culture" around all that says the opposite--that influencers should be the judge of what products people buy. I mean, in a way, it makes sense, because they're called... influencers. It's profoundly unfortunate though.

To me, an influencer is just "secondary marketing." By that, I mean that a company provides "primary marketing"--they release the product, and tell you all the reasons why you should buy it. The influencer goes off this, and is often extremely biased or loyal to the company (can't stress enough how much that angers me!), and will then promote that product.

What I want--and very small YouTube channels (usually less than 5000 subs and no sponsorships) provide this--is MEANINGFUL, HELPFUL CONTENT about a product. THEIR TAKE on the device. Not their "review" that is backed by a company who forces them to say positive things. I have a small YouTube channel, too. I do not buy products to review. I do not post on a schedule--in fact, my uploads are very rare. I talk about products I already own, and give them a fresh perspective (some of them are quite old). I will ALWAYS, ALWAYS watch channels like that.

I won a giveaway from them for a robot lawnmower, and Vadim was super kind. Even checked up on me to make sure the company followed through and sent it.

With all the bashing here, thought I'd share the positive interaction I had.

Admittedly I only watched their videos because Vadim was vaguely attractive. I stopped when I got tired of the inflection he has when recording videos. Seems like a nice enough guy.

Definitely clickbait-y thumbnails and titles but that's just how the YouTube game has to be played these days.

I like their videos where they go in depth and do comparisons. It helped me conclude to get the mba air 15’ last year and I’m very happy with it. I miss when both brothers where doing reviews and discussions together, also with another chick idk if she was a wife, sister ect.

I don't usually watch him but did stumble upon his iPhone 14 vs 13 video and it actually seemed to go in-depth about the nuanced differences between the two phones rather than just taking the easy approach and making it out to be an exact copy as most reviewers would do. Maybe that's just when he's actually trying, it was 2 years ago to be fair.

I dont mind in general clickbait titles. That's part of the game, that's youtube.

Their videos are hit and miss, but i enjoy their fairly extensive side-by-side comparisons of various machines. They dont always understand the results, but that's ok.

But I also agree their misleading thumbnail about the Apple event being confirmed was too far. The point of clickbait thumbnails is that its an exgeration of one aspect of the video. Not that its an outright lie. I've lost a significant amount of respect for them after that video. Glad to see I wasnt only one annoyed.

Yeah I got bored of their clickbait shouty wavy-arms videos where everything has leaked but is really only their opinion.

Oh and newer and faster machines being tested and proven to be newer and, erm, faster.

Edit: Matt Talks Tech is another one. It's like listening to total guesswork in the style of a Butlins kids entertainer.

To be fair a lot of YouTubers are like that. Otherwise how do they keep their business running? Zollotech releases a video for each and every software update for each and every Apple device and he recites everything in details, in the 10 mins video probably only 10 secs are new features, heck he even reads out the build numbers for a minute. But this is how YouTube works.

I followed Max Tech from the very beginning and the initial videos by Max were quite good, that’s why they gained so many followers. Vadim does some dramas for the engagement but generally it’s easy to spot. I just don’t view those videos and I see why they do that. If I’m fed up, I will unsubscribe.

The problem is , if they only release videos on important updates and new products they would have no followers. Many channels died due to this. It’s a sad state of the Internet but people like it. Probably the viewers are the exact problem.

He’s been this way for a while now…. I used to watch his channel but it got annoying so no more. He’s the LTT of the Apple world 😂
Linus can be a weapons-grade ***-hole sometimes, but I'd say even he and his staff are more entertaining and committed than Max Yuryev, oof. I've lost my patience for his clickbait a loooooong time ago.

Then again, I'm spoiled with the likes of LGR, Usagi Electric, Action Retro, This Does Not Compute, etc. I go to YouTube for tech in general, retro entertainment, yadda yadda, and couldn't care less about Apple rumour channels… I always got all my relevant info from here, AppleInsider and ThinkSecret (RIP) through RSS feeds, it's a medium that lends itself much more to this kind of content anyway.

I got annoyed with LTT a long time ago because when he went on a tangent, his voice would get really high pitched. It was annoying.

Very good choices for YouTube content!

I feel like most of YouTube has gone this way, or the channel starts off legit, then goes this way anyway. It’s a shame that greed has pretty much made YouTube gamed for attention rather than engaging and helpful content because I used to love YT.

It's a combination of playing the YouTube algorithm and people like Max Tech likely wanting to make a living off being a YouTuber.

  • I believe the monetisation works from number of views and how long they view for
    • This leads to the painfully drawn out videos, taking something that should take 5 minutes to say and dragging it out over 15-20 minutes
    • The click-bait thumbnails and titles have (unfortunately) been shown to get more people to click on them (which makes sense - if you saw a video with the title "New MacBook Air is the one to get" you don't really need to click on the video as you've seen the conclusion)
  • The recommendation algorithm favours posters who regularly post videos, hence people putting up multiple videos a week even if there is nothing new to say just so the algorithm keeps recommending the videos to a wide audience

I think Max Tech has lots of good content (I like the informative teardowns and comparisons), but it's hidden away in overlong videos and amongst pointless conjecture videos.
