Maxed out is actually:

$3,899 without readers or prescription lenses
$3,998 with readers
$4,048 with prescription lenses

Comes with a battery so pointless to add a second one.

Apple care is not a component of the headset.

Case is an accessory.

Might as well include the daily amount it costs to charge the battery separated from your energy bill at this point lol.

Now, don’t get me wrong I know this is an expensive device, but can we be real? It’s not meant for the general consumer even though that’s what everyone wants it to be.

I paid $3,500 for a 85” 4K TV in 2019 and all I can do with that device is watch TV.

You can buy a 100” LG TV for about $49,999, more than the cost of a brand new MB C-Class.

Let’s stop acting like this is an insurmountable price point just because “most” people can’t afford it. The time will come when it gets cheaper and is more marketed towards the general public and not early adopters and developers.

3rd parties can solve the light seal, case, lenses, battery holder.

The apple care is the true shocker.
Not really a shocker I’d say. 14% of the cost of the device at base configuration and 12% of the cost at it’s most expensive configuration.

iPhone 15 Pro Max is 16% of cost for AppleCare+, 22% for Apple are+ Theft & Loss in base configuration and 12% for AppleCare+ and 16% for AppleCare+ Theft & Loss in most expensive configuration.

You’ve never included accessories or AppleCare pricing in your “maxed out” figures before. Odd that you’re doing it now.
It's broken out in detail. It shows you have a choice between "insane" and "really insane" for the purchase price.

It’s strapped down, I’m sure it’s gonna be fine. If not, I’ll just return it.
Where do you see the power adapter has a place to be strapped down? The picture shows the battery secured, but I don't see clips for anything else.

I have to believe Apple put this on sale now as it is currently designed to start to recoup some of the investment into AR that they have been working on for years. This comes across as a product that is immature and meant for early technology adopters. For everyone else, check back in 5 years to see if the price is more reasonable, the use case more obvious and the design more desirable and less cumbersome.

There’s a band on top of it strapped down and a plastic piece to keep the cord straight. I doubt it’ll slip out if tightened properly.

Applecare+ is almost necessary with this device. I'm pretty sure there's going to be accidents and Apple isn't going to just charge $499 to repair a dropped Vision without Applecare. There's also potential for hardware failures in this thing after 1 year. Usually extended warrantys have the risks baked into the price. For example it costs about $2000 to extend the warranty on an Acura to 100,000 miles, while it's about $5000 to do the same for a BMW.

Waiting for the Tony Stark edition where ambient light and objects are visible without any cameras. Like AirPods without silicon inserts. Don't like sound cancelation and visual cancelation.

There are enough tech bros with money so I won’t be surprised if initial stock sells out.
It will but the question for the platform is long term. Apple can only make 500K per year right now...but will they realistically even need that many per year. This is a niche device. If it doesn't do what I need it to for work this one is my only one...

People keep saying this but it is totally out of character for apple. When apple makes a product that isn't great...they just dont ever release it and lose the money. Apple thinks this device is complete and a quality mixed reality spatial computer. Thats how apple does things. Are there things left out that will get better...of course. But it's not apples pattern to release immature products. They never have and that would be a major departure. And...the fact that products get better over time isn't proof a product was immature...just things in tech get better.

I remember vividly when a Mac and a Laser printer cost that much. A bit later beefier PCs were that much for a long time.

This is the start, now they will be working on identifying new functionality and reducing the costs of existing to bring basic functionality in line with more of a mass-market product.

Pardon the expression, this opens up a whole new world to Apple. Just like the iPod, iPhone, iPad have, damn I wish I bought stock years ago.

I see what you are saying, but it is still not part of the device build itself. A warranty has risks baked into the price, but it is not a part of the cost of the vehicle itself.

Applecare+ is an overpriced insurance product that makes Apple a ton of money. It is not necessary nor financially worth it to the average consumer.

I’ve come out ahead with the numerous logic board replacements on every MacBook Pro I’ve had with discrete gpu’s. Even my 2019 MacBook Pro 16’s SSD went bad and would’ve been a $800 repair without AppleCare. This being a first gen device is going to have its issues. Unless you plan on selling it in a year for the vision 2 at a 50% loss and only use in the confines of your home

No, it doesn't. This article is wrong and should be retracted.
I have to agree, this is not "maxed out" unless now we're going to only consider an iPhone maxed out if you buy every available accessory and insurance plan on it. Previously maxed out was reserved for just storage/memory/cpu changes.

I'm glad it worked out for you. I'm not saying there aren't exceptions, but again, on average, Apple makes a healthy profit on this product. If consumers, on average, were financially benefiting from AppleCare+, that would by definition mean Apple would be losing money on it.

Look at it this way. If you could create your own iPhone for Apple's cost of goods sold, wouldn't you do that instead of buying it from Apple at a markup? Except, making an iPhone is near impossible. However, I CAN easily produce the benefits of AppleCare+ by self-insuring. On average, I will come out ahead.
