I recently got the LG Ultrawide 49WL95C-W which I was keeping fresh for my ordered M1 MBA. The monitor has max resolution of 5120x1440...I received my MBA M1, 16GB and 1TB, and...the screen runs at max 3440 x 1080. ?

I searched around but can't find if this is a driver problem, OS and if there is a fix? Please help!

Not even 1440p? What cable or adapter are you using?

Also make sure you're using the computer in clamshell mode with the power cable attached and the lid closed.

I'm using the USB3 cable that came with the LG Monitor. I've now tried in clamshell mode to no avail. Can't get anything more than 3840x1080 so all text is fuzzy. This is so frustrating...I'm coming from a MBP 13 from 2016 with Intel graphics which couldn't drive it either, but at least I could divide the screen in two halves by plugging one USB3 and the other HDMI. Each half at 2560 x 1440. You can't do that with the M1s...only one external screen up to 6k. I'm at a loss!

For some reason the monitor now works at full resolution on my 13inch MBP from 2016. It didn't until this morning....how bizarre. BUT...Fans full blast most of the time and want to keep my MBA M1

I have the Mac mini M1 - 16gb - 1TB and have the same issue, can only do 3840*1080 not the 5120*1440 it should be able todo. Mac mini m1 6k spec??
This is SUPER frustrating, please is there any solution to this? USB-C TB3 cable supplied with screen was used.

It’s clearly not a cable issue...the same cable with my intel MBP 2017 gets full resolution!

Try installing SwitchResX. I had the same issue with my LG 5k2k. It outputs some weird resolution. Using SwitchResX was able to get what I needed, definitely driver issue.

Weird. With my Philips 499P9, I only had 30 Hz at first and needed to change one USB setting from 3.0 to 2.0 to get it up to 60. Other than that, it worked just fine from the start without any visible or audible impact on the system.

That actually seemed to get me to 5120*1440 BUT Mac display preferences does not show this & the LG on screen display does not work + the monitor showed a message "make sure to use supplied cables" ?

This way I can't emulate 2 or 3 screens.

I just bought a LG 49WL95C-W for my new M1 MacBook Pro.
I hope I will not regret and it works...

I have a CalDigit TS3 Plus. Should it be connected to that TB3 port or what is the best solution?

I also got a CalDigit but connecting that with TB3 to Mac and dp to LG49 gave me same 3840@1080.
The app switchresx got me the correct resolution 5120*1440 but still LG´s software control screen detects no monitor.
LG control screen 4.4 was released 24/11-2020 (2 days ago) and is listed to support MacOsX 10.15 not 11.0.1

I suspect this is the problem. Color profiles also seems off - HDR mode totally screws colours.

I am curious if users with Dell49" and Mac M1/Big Sur are more successful and if the software split screen utils work. Or the Samsung 49" G9

Please explain what you did to set it up and get there? Was it just plug and play 5120*1440 on first boot?
The lg on screen Mac software even says no monitor?
It was plug and play. I used the USB-C cable that came with my Dell monitor. I just plugged the cable into the monitor and into my Macbook Air M1, the monitor asked if I wanted to switch to the USB-C input, and I was done. I didn't change the resolution or the refresh rate. I didn't install anything on my Mac nor does Dell have any software for the Mac.

Does the DELL have solutions to split the screen in 2 or 3 verticals, so the Mac thinks there is 3 screens physical .
Makes such a wide screen more useable

I CAN CONFIRM SWITCHRESX MADE IT WORK ON MY MBA M1 @ Full Resolution on LG 49 inch 5120x1440! :)
Sure - that works for me as well. But I cannot get LG´s software On Screen Control" to work. IMHO that is very crucial as that allows you to emulate multiple physical screens and also colour with drivers etc. Seems that LG app was released 24th of November and only supports 10.14 and 10.15 Catalina

Are you sure it emulates multiple physical screens or does it just help you layout windows across the screen? Dell has an app in Windows that really just helps you layout the screens across the display (but no Mac support). There is also picture by picture mode where you can split the display in two and display one input on each side.
