Same problem with my 5120x1440 Samsung CRG9. Tried different cables and doesn’t wake form sleep.
For me it is fixed by setting DisplayPort version to 1.2 but then it uses chroma subsampling instead of rgb (so blurry texts/colors)

I also received my LG 49WL95C-WE. Box states that it's a 49WL95C-W but on labels, both on the box and on the display itself, it states it's a 49WL95C-WE. No idea what's the difference. Maybe the extra E stands for enterprise?

Great display btw, everything worked right out of the box. Didn't had to change DP 1.4 to DP 1.2 or whatsoever. Native 5120x1440 is indeed incredible.
Are the ports the same as on the LG 49WL95C-W? Just curious if anything might be updated.

I was able to get my Samsung Odyssey G9 LC49G95TSSNXZA recognized by using the option key while selecting "scaled" to open up other resolutions. Also SwitchResX fixes it right up with matching refresh rate. I made a YouTube video that talks through it:
Hope it helps!

Just stumbled upon this thread today. I have a 2017 MBP 13in and just bought the LG 49WL95C-W, apparently I have no hope without software emulation (switchresX) to get to 5120 x 1440. Considering buying an M1 MBP tomorrow to resolve the issue; can someone confirm the resolution works with the updated machine? Thanks!

I have a MBP M1 and a 49wl95c-we. Everythings works out of the box. Used the usb-c cable which came with the display and I run 5120x1440 without any issues. Didn’t had to install any 3rd party software nor did I had to change to displayport 1.2.

I guess the font is blurry with 5120x1440 @ 120.00hz,right?
No, it's not blurry at all. It's the native res of the display and looks very crisp. I don't need SwitchResX anymore since the latest Big Sur update. I still have the plug in multiple times issue though as of 11.2.1.

To add to this, I am using DP 1.4. I think the blurry issues people were reporting was when switching to 1.2 (again, I am using the Samsung 49" CRG9, so ymmv)

I'm really struggling with the resolution of this screen. Not sure if its because I wear glasses for close-up stuff or if I'm just spoiled by 4/5K displays, but while I absolutely love the monitor, I'm not finding it as easy as I thought to get over the resolution.

So I've got the Samsung Odyssey G9 and a M1 Macbook pro. I'm using an 8K USB-C to DP cable and I'm able to set it to 5120x1440@120hz with the latest Big Sur update.

I do however get really weird flickering with the screen when using the M1. The entire screen flickers and the colors are off, until I move whatever window I'm using around and then the color corrects. I've got two different USB-C to 8k DP cables and they both do it.

Was curious if anyone had the same symptoms or any potential fixes.

I sometimes get weird flickering but not sure if thats the G9 issues as they are plagued with them although mine is minor with my Mac Mini M1. I am running at full res 5120x1440 120hz. Just updated Big Sur so will see how it goes.

LG HDR WFHD (34-inch (1920 × 1080) resolution was messed up this morning. Worked ok, but not great yesterday. Updated to 11.2.2.

This is the only issue that is making me hate my M1.

After more troubleshooting, it looks like my issues with the colors on my G9 only occur when I have the laptop lid open and both the G9 and Laptop screen are being used. If I close the lid and use the G9 exclusively then I can use it with no issues. Not ideal, but I'll take it.

Thanks

Also does the dell 49 have an on screen splitting option that splits it into 8 equal squares?

Can you screenshot if the text looks crisp or blurry?

Since I only have an m1 mba I’ll stick with 1440p and hope I can get 144hz on it. I won’t go 4K until even the low end can get over 100fps on 4K 144hz. The monitors at the top end require more computing power than a lot of the low end can handle, at least as far as games are concerned. Unless your willing to spend $4-5k on a monitor computer combo pushing that many pixels at high refresh rates with high graphics settings is too much to ask for. It’s not realistic for the average consumer yet. Best not to press your luck.

SwitchRes isn't software emulation. It's an app that can override the operating system's preset display resolution limits by inserting new resolution settings into the operating system's available options.

That’s because of True Tone.
Open your lid and display True Tone then your display will be fine.
When lid is open True Tone also effects the external display

The color issue isn't a tone color, but almost like there isn't enough bandwidth to push the display. Like lines go across the screen and gray turns to blue and flickers around some colors. It does this on and off if I have the laptop lid open. Once I close it, all the flickering and color changes go away.

Maybe this video helps.
I understood that switchresx will help, but nobody told us how to set it up ;-).

All the best! Mo

Guys, i followed all the steps of the video, but i don´t get the high resolution in switchresx. Still the 3840 x 1080. Is it maybe, because i´m using an hdmi cabel? Could anyone help? I´m using an LG 49wl95c-w with a mac mini M1.

Thanks in advance, Mo

Update: It was the USB-C cabel. Now it´s working with 60Hz. And it seems to be ok so far.

I have the same display and don't have any issues with my MacBook Pro M1. Using the usb-c cable which came with the display as I don't have an HDMI-out on the device. Running this setup without any issues for several months; this is my main monitor and I'm using the screen for aprox. 12/14h a day. 5120x1440@60 was recognized from the first minute when I connected it to my MBP.
