Week 43 and I think I have some lines but they are so hard to see, I don't care. I have to actually think about seeing them.

Reading how some people even get a good display after a replacement and some get bad after several replacements, seems bad ones are made in group, just a guess. (or nvm, he got a working one at week 44/46, don't look like they are in any sort of a group.)

Can't see the lines even if I really try. My screen looks like Ironic's, if I get really close I can see the very fine mesh-like structure, just like on every other display. But from about a foot out this structure disappears and I have a fantastic screen - best I ever had on a laptop. Glossy, but very usable in sunlight and extensive viewing angles.

I was actually in the market for a MacBook, because of the additional connectors and features - who would want a laptop without Ethernet? A totally crazy thought to me. Also, two pounds here or there and a little thicker - what's the big deal? And, naturally, I was afraid of the lines.

Well, I took my girl to the Apple store and when I came out I had the Air. It's a keeper and so is she :)

Best of luck to all those, who have the lines - I know I would be devastated. Apple will do something, I'm sure, but it may take time.

Congrats, I am happy you bought the MBA . I had the New Alum Mackbook and it was great, but love the air and no glass to break.

So far it seems as if the screens which are (more likely) to be fine, are made in Week 43/44. Thats at least what I am hearing from you.

Could maybe other people with perfect screens also look for their week of production and post it? (So far I've not seen any week 47, 48, 49 with a perfect screen).

The MBA is state of the art, thats what makes such a big problem for me, seeing the lines.

A few words concerning the pictures: Thanks to Ironic for all his support and the pictures he took. Although I have to say one thing. I did have the lines on two MBAs (different Genius saw them too), BUT I couldn't take a picture on which you could see the lines. I tried everything: Canon, Panasonic, Fuji, different angle, w/o flash, different screen brightness, Macro Mode etc etc. And NOBODY so far has ever posted a picture of the lines from a MBA.

Headaches

I find it interesting too that a few people who have lines on their screens indicate that they get bad headaches when using the computer. It only seems to be a few people - but is that because their issue is severe, or they are just more temperamental? If it was a refresh rate issue I would understand it more - but onthe flip side :

When I am sick with a bad, bad cold - i CANNOT look at a lcd screen - whether it is a computer, or my LCD tv because it makes my head ache. and that is with all lcd devices that are operating normally and I can normally view without issue.

Lines on a creen? looks like parchment etc? then fine - you CAN look at that forever without getting headaches. headaches, while healthy seem to indicate something in the cycle of the lcd refresh rate - and not a processing defect of the screen material.

If everyone said we have lines - but that is it - no headaches - then i would say it is a defect in the processing of some of the screens.

but some people say they have headaches - and 'lines' don't cause headaches... unless u get a headache from looking at a paper notepad....

It's not the lines that are causing the headaches, it's the "flickering" that some screens have. It is similar to refresh rate strobing but it plays in the periphery of your vision on some of the MBA Rev. B screens. It is more noticeable on darker backgrounds.

It's odd, since Apple has good experience with sourcing and designing for LCD/LED screens and so I wouldn't have expected such an outcry about the screens!

It is very hard to get a good picture of the screen, took me a few shoots, IF someone that has lines, would try, that would be helpful.

some might have a better camera that will take a picture, as I for one have never seen them.

I'm starting to think some of those people on the other thread are seeing things. I don't doubt that there is a problem on some, but others talk about how they searched and searched and finally found something they think may be a problem.

I'm glad I don't know what it's like to wake up every day so I can find a way to make myself miserable like those sad souls.

Did I mention my MBA is flawless?

I am glad for you. I was so happy that my MBA was flawless externally and even when I turned it on and noticed a huge light bleeding on top and bottom, I said to myself that is fine knowing how many bad MBAs (revA) I had last year. I was praying not to get horizontal lines but they were noticeable on the boot screen :(. Even the specialist was  when I showed him my screen and brought me a replacement, but the manager asked him to have a genius look at it and then they decided that these lines are within specs  ... :apple: sucks due to the way they are treating us. We are not supposed to get such flaws for what we are paying. How come a $300 NetBook does not suffer from any of these issues? This just shows how greedy Apple is and how they care about money more than our satisfaction.

If I had a flawed MBA, with semi-perfect screen, I might be happy but the lines are causing me headache whenever I try to read anything on light backgrounds, which is the case of 99% of available websites and documents.

Glad to hear that there are others who do not have the lines or at least do not see them, because sometimes not seeing is a blessing also :).

Hello,

I have ordered my MacBook Air (1.8 GHz, 120 GB) on the 21. October 2008 and I'm waiting and waiting for it to come.

Can anyone tell me, where the problem is, that apple don't ship the new MBA Rev.B to europe???

I'm from Vienna (Austria) and I ordered my MBA there at a "Apple Premium Reseller" store!

Maybe someone can give me any informations about that, because the shopman over there said always that he knew nothing at all.

thx

I have an early one (week 3 or 4) and haven't experienced any problems with lines on the display. Nice, bright display for me.

Is that a MBA? Are you going to keep or replace it?

If you can take a picture, why is it no one else can? Hummmmmmmm

That is a 1.6/120 MBA that I tried to replace but is "within specs" according to the sh**heads at the Apple store!

Again, I am one of many that were able to take pictures and show their screens to many Apple employees and they seem to be fine by saying "within specs" as if we are seeing such issues on other LCDs but the ones used by Apple!!!

Do you also have the flickering?
write to sjobs@apple.com and they will replace it.

Yes I have the flickering and I do not believe in writing to Steve since I already did and I did not get any response. The best way to do it, is to go to another Apple store and try my luck there. This time, I will return it for sure and this might be my last Apple laptop unless Apple take these issues in consideration.

Well now you can count me in the pool of people who originally did not see the lines or the flickering at an Apple Store and who was now seen the flickering and the lines at a different Apple Store.

The first time around I wasn't really checking carefully though. I was loading random web sites and applications trying to see the problem. Last night I was much more careful and did exactly what another user posted and was able to reproduce the problem. Could be that the first time around I saw a perfect machine and the second time around I saw a bad machine, but it's left me wary of the displays for now.

Now that I definitely know what it looks like, if I can find another machine without the problem then I'd be a little less wary.

I really don't think IF the problem is true, it's that bad, some people are born whiners.
No matter what, you can't please everyone.

As for looking I have seen about 10, and no lines on any.
