This is actually potentially terrifying for me, and I didn't think about it.

Will logging into sites like Clean Access for university/college work on the Ipad? Anyone have experience like this yet?

I think it all depends on the network and the appliances installed on it that restrict content.
What are the rules governing access to UT Austin's Wi-Fi network and what is your status with respect to each rule?

No rules other than you pay for your access. I'm still going strong on the Macbook and the Touch so it's just a matter of them updating the program so it recognizes the iPad

I am by no means knowledgeable about network settings, so this may be way off.

But, when I got the original iPhone, I was not able to connect to my university's WiFi. What eventually worked for me was that I downloaded the iPhone Configuration Utility from Apple, which lets you create a WiFi profile for yourself. I then emailed it to myself, opened it from the email attachment on my iPhone, and went through the install process. I believe I had to enter my WiFi password upon installing.

So it may be worth a shot. Download the utility here:

Open the program and create a new configuration profile. See the screenshots of my settings as a guide. The network at my school is called "slunet" and my username was pruppert. So that's why that's there. You'll have to swap in you own network/username/password information on that.

Again, I am by no means an expert in this, but I seem to remember it working for my iPhone so there is a chance it might work for the iPad which runs on the iPhone OS.

Anyone else have to keep reconnecting to their wifi network manually?

This is starting to bug me! If I wake my iPad from sleep, it doesn't automatically connect to my Time Capsule anymore. I have to keep going into Settings, and then touching my protected network which is showing there, and then it connects. So obviously it remembers the network and WPA2 password, but it's not auto-connecting. It's really annoying!

Anyone else experiencing this? I've reset network settings, and even reset the whole device a couple of times, and it still misbehaves. :(

I've had intermittent Wifi issues as well. I've just launched safari and it reconnected. It is annoying though.

My problem has been when the wifi unexpectedly cuts out in the middle of browsing, and then it takes a few tries and a reenter of my wpa passkey to reconnect.

The OP is not entirely forthcoming. His claim that the only rule that he has to follow is to pay for access is at best misleading. UT-Austin grants 500 MB/week free Internet access to students. Students who exceed this limit must pay a prorated fee of $4/semester for an additional 4 GB/week allocation. They may also make a one-time payment of $5/2 GB block up to a maximum of 6 GB/week.

I don't think that would be relevant in this case to his iPad not connecting.

I wonder what's gong on here. I really hope Apple addresses the issue soon. I guess it will get fixed with OS 3.2.1.

It's odd that i haven't seen more complaints about this on these boards.

I've seen posts about WiFi issues, haven't really delved into the threads though.

It's not really a deal breaker for me, though... The product is usable, and while the disconnections are an inconvenience, they're simple enough to fix, and hopefully can be fixed with a software update.

I haven't had the disconnections. I just have to pick my network from the list every time I pick up my iPad. I do find it annoying, but have faith it will get addressed.

What happens with me is it will tell me I am not connected to WiFi, I will try to join my network, it will tell me it can't connect to it, I'll try again, it will ask me to enter my passphrase, and then it will either connect (usually) or I'll need to try again. 30 seconds max.

I've had no wifi issues here. Even when waking it up, it reconnects right away. I've had it on my own network (WPA2) and my brother's (WEP)...no issues at all.

Aside from this issue, have you actually had the not auto-connecting issue though?

Very interesting. Are you on wireless N at all?

No problems here connected once when I first got the iPad yesterday and it's been connected ever since. That's with a d-link router 655 I think is the model number.
