Yeah because I have been WOWED by Android and all the droid phones. All of them with their laggy touch screens, over used widgets and useless customization options.

People are forgetting something very keen here. Most people want a simple to use, easy on the eyes - device. They don't want or need widgets out the ass. Who here is looking at their phone CONSTANTLY to need a damn widget? On a computer, I can understand. A phone? Umm no. I don't need to customize my phone to the point where it looks like a damn MySpace page. We all saw what happened with that ghetto of a website. No thanks.

All these people whining about these things - go - get another phone since you think the grass is SOOO much greener on the other side. Let me tell you, it's not. It's confusing as hell with all the multi task BS droid has. It's like a train wreck of an OS. Now multiply that by 15 different handsets and each one is different.

Yeah - no.

Want another phone? Go get one and leave already. Stop talking and yacking about it - GO DO IT!

Wasn't it reported last month that Android was on course to be outselling iPhone as of this month?

I'm not sure if they have overtaken yet, but they're clearly doing something right.

It did occur to me, having read that, they don't give you any like for like sales figures at these Apple events. They show you statistics for things like "Which OS is used more for browsing," which doesn't really tell you anything about how many people use each OS, just that they have different habbits. There might be 100x as many loggins to facebook from Android devices? None of this tells us any useful information about who sells more phones.

Something quite annoying I've found in 4.0 is that you can only put a maximum of 12 apps into each folder. I've got about 15 games on my phone, so have a Games folder plus three games which I can't fit in it.

I am not sure Android would be a good choice for people wanting updates to the OS. They are still selling Android handsets with 1.5 installed! And the carriers are not offering any upgrade path. This is becoming a real problem. The Android platform is heavily fragmented as a consequence.

On your other point, - the (world) manufacturer which sells the most units is Nokia.
The (world) manufacturer that makes the most profit is Apple.
The (US) manufacturer with the most active accounts is RIM.

Are you serious? Who's hating?

I see nothing but completely justified disappointment. Apple is seriously falling behind.

Apple is far from falling behind, they are leading in pretty much everything that matters in the mobile market.

I tried switching to Android, and it was one of the worst mistakes I have made. The applications were a complete joke and the video player kept crashing when streaming video after video. It only took about two-three videos for the application to crash, and the only way for the videos to be playable was to restart the phone. Also, the touch screen on the Nexus One is one of the most inaccurate touch screens I have used.

Once again, something deemed the "iPhone killer" is simply faded away in the wind along with all of the others.

I don't think people realize that the Apple iPhone will always remain the "best" smartphone for two reasons: software and their application ecosystem.

Now you see your being ridiculous and just a common fanboy. There were good things that came from this announcement of the new OS. If you dislike this thread so much to the point of posting illogical rants, then why post? Those I mentioned that are missing were features that many wanted.

I didn't realize that asking for printing support was too much since they are offering iWork on the iPad and was the equivalent of asking for Ubuntu.

I'm angry. The iPhone still can't cook me breakfast and wash my dishes.

I disagree with some of the comments. Android has been updating their OS far more frequently then what we've seen apple. We get one major update to the iPhone OS once a year and maybe two bug fixes.

As for phones on android 1.5, and being fragmented, I'd say that as new phones come out which they do far more frequently then what apple produces the 1.5 phones will roll out. There's really no fragmentation in so far as that most apps will run on android and as many phones use the latest and greatest its only what each carrier customizes their version of android.

You are missing the point.
Google *have* been updating this OS rapidly.

But users are not able to get these updates. The carriers have no interest in updating users.

Apple is the only company that centrally distributes OS updates to customers without going through the carriers. Apple had to change its accounting procedures to make this possible.

"Were not first but we will be the best"

I disagree, consider this:

Surely it should be the other way round so the currently running apps take most of the screen. 4/5th of the screen is currently sitting there doing nothing!

Most of the carriers have been pushing through the updates, just look at verizon, they've released the 2.1 update.

As for having an extra layer, you're correct, it does add delays and they're on the hook for carriers to do the work

I'll correct my statement.
*Some* carriers have no interest in upgrading users.

Which is my basic point. Switching to Android does not automatically take you to a land of unlimited timely upgrades. Some Android users will be permanently stuck at 1.5.

Sim free customers of Android hardware could get the updates straight away though, no?

Yes and even locked phones can get updates straight away as well. All it requires is rooting the phone.

So all you've got to do is hack your phone to update it. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Let's go and inform all of the tech-illiterate end users of this breakthrough in user-friendliness.

Or you can buy sim-free, which works out cheaper and doesn't lock you into anything.

To those folks who are angry with Apple and plan on moving to Android, all I'll say is good luck. I totally appreciate wanting more/different features from your handset but I think you all really don't know how good yo uhave it with the iPhone. I have owned a couple of different Android phones, a multitude of Blackberrys, and the Pre. I finally came back to Apple and haven't looked back since. Do these other phones have better notification systems? Sure. Have I noticed not having that since coming back? Nope. Not once. The user experience is virtually perfect on an iPhone. The stuff you're just glossing over - easy and intuitive UI, smooth function, etc is what makes or breaks these phones. An Android phone can do more but the price of doing that "more" is usually a laggy UI, a touch interface that isn't as responsive, and a really crappy upgrade schedule that varies between carrier and handset.

I appreciate Android, I really do. But it's a mess right now. The iPhone is the premiere smartphone experience on the market, and I can say that with some authority. You'll just have to see for yourself, same as I did.

im happy with my iphone i just want a faster one and the ability to change my txt tone. infact be able to change all alert tones. i mean add my own ones.

the camera could be better too as in image stabiliser and a flash.

bluetooth file transfer between diff phone makers

more storage and if o2 could boost their 3g network coverage and speed.

a bit o a better batt

better speaker phone ok to hear but the mic is crap so they canny hear you without the headset actually the whole phone app (for calls) could be tweeked a bit also the call loggs could be better maybe saved to a file in itunes then you could look back on them.

YES my iphone is fine apart fi those small things lol

I'm not exactly sure what your talking about, but wouldn't it be cool to use that space for a reent notification system.

So a notifications pops up at the bottom like the multitasking bar, and you can just go back to your app if you want. but then you want to go back to the notification you can double click and on top of the multitasking bar is recent notification that you could view and select

I don't believe so. They are def moving at a fast pace but iPhones are staying steady and they def have sold a lot more phones than android all together. I think the number of total android phones is somewhere around 10-15 mil while the iPhone is over 50. Honestly my bet is that the next gen iPhone is really going to surpass the n1 in a serious way. Apple IMO is just better at software and hardware implementation. Things like game center on os 4 are going to be big. I think apple is really taking this android rival seriously and they are working very hard for this next gen iPhone. Of course we won't know till summer :)

You forgot:

x The inability to stack 10 iPhones in a RAID configuration.
x No PS/2 mouse support.
x The lack of a lisp compiler.
x No excuse for not including Apache 2.3.5-alpha.
x Installation of Ubuntu flyingpork-0.8-beta is still not supported.
x Copy/Paste is too late.

OMG, I LOVE you!;) Exactly right!:D And BTW, have you tried the Ubuntu flyingpork 0.8 beta? It's AWESOME!:p

I used the original PalmOS, long before phones, though I stayed with them right up until I bought my iPhone and I solved a similar problem by simply having more than one "kind" of game, and thus more than one game folder. Like strategy games and action games, or the like?
