I noticed there were multiple points to each 'tent pole' feature. So say each Tent Pole feature has a few other features under it...

Lets do the maths.

7 x 5 = 35.

92 - 35 = 57.

I've seen Apple say 'X' amount of new features and there has never really been that many.

There's always a lot of "minor" features non of us would consider - though every company will tout as much as it can, whenever it can. It's just good economics.

Wow. This same exact thing happened with the iPad. When apple announced it the forums were filled with posts saying "iPad sucks!" and "It's just a big iPod touch." Then when the iPad started shipping everyone went out and got one saying "I love my iPad it's amazing!" At least when the iPad came out there was some reason to complain. It didn't have Mac OS X, it had no camera, etc.

Now you're complaining because they didn't update their lock screen and other random junk. They finally give you multitasking, something you've wanted from day one, a unified inbox, which many people wanted, and folders, another desired feature. And you start saying things like this:

Ok, so Jobs knows there is jailbreaker developers out there, and they have found ways to impliment the cusomization of what the user wants... Bring to the Iphone what should be in the next updates... but how come it takes so long for apple to impliment these updates?

for example:
A) Folders:.... Wow I think we call that Categories in the JB world

B) Multitasking:.... they should have just used multifl0w... (yes I think it is 10x's better than proswitcher)

C) a Unified E-mail inbox.... incredible how if we wanted a unified inbox, we could have all our e-mail accounts forwarded to one address

D) iAds:.... no comment, now we have to sift through ads in everything we do iphone... GREAT IMPROVEMENT!!!

E) Games:... there is a reason why the business world doesnt use Iphones, because they keep focusing on stupid games instead BB users laugh at our toys.

F) More than one exchange account: that must have really been hard to impliment, i mean how many people were screaming for that one?

anyways, your getting to see my point, I believe they needed a HUGE facelift for those who want customization of the UI and honestly little things like "THEMES" or "sounds" or lockscreen can go a LONG way with the people... incredible how Apple thinks that after almost 4 years they dont have to change a thing to the UI...

I dont know I am more and more thinking of getting the HTC EVO.

My god. Calm down buddy.

So, apple gives you some of the most wanted features on the iPhone, and you cry about it because they didn't give you some little feature that you just decided was the only one you REALLY wanted. An update may please some and disappoint others, and vice-versa, like a gaming system that seems stupid to older people but great to younger people. If you can think of an update that pleases everyone, you better call up apple right away. Just accept that not everything you want is the same as what everyone else wants, and don't cry and whine like a kid whose mommy won't let him get this one toy.

Jeez, it's kind of sad, how some people are never happy with what they get.

Even though the idea of categories or folders is nothing new, I like the way Apple is going to do it. Just dragging and dropping icons on top of each other is quick and easy.
And, IF what they say is true about their version of multitasking not eating up too much battery then I say good job to them.

But I must say that I'm not too impressed anymore with the iPhone. Obviously there will probably be more features announced when a new model comes out but I was expecting/wanting more with 4.0. I don't want to give any of the fanboys a heart attack but who can deny that the competition is catching up...or has caught up??

I'm kinda bored with my phone as it is and I don't want to jailbreak to gain features that Apple could provide. I've had every model of iPhone so far and have talked at least 10 other people into getting one, but I'm kinda worried now that Apple is dropping the ball. The iPhone isn't cutting edge anymore like it was a couple years ago. Hopefully the new model will change that

Yup I realise that I'm just stating it for the people here who will no doubt complain on release day that there arn't that many user features that affect them or that they can actually see as a visual improvement.

Agreed 1,000,000,000%. The iPhone has the same look that it's had all along and people get bored with something that looks the same...especially when there have been 3 "major" OS updates (by 4.0 that will be the 3rd big OS update, right?)

Already and have never been happier. Anyone who believes iPhone 4.0's multi-tasking is superior to other platforms, such as Android or WebOS, has clearly not used other platforms.

Oh there's no doubting that multitasking is better on Android and other platforms.. it's the integration, simplicity and of course the app store that keeps people on the iPhone.. and the multitasking is only going to make the experience better.

And we should care why? Why is everyone so obsessed with BlueRay?

Intel cannot produce the chis fast enough for Apple to release them, go cry on Intel's doorstep.

You opinion! The 3.2MP camera of the iPhone takes better pictures than some 5-8MP camera phones I have seen.(my opinion) Pixels aren't the deciding factor of what is good.

Yeah, so what. Apple doesn't release anything until they fell they have it "right." Take for instance Copy and Paste, again, available to jailbreakers prior to Apple's implementation - which by the way surpases the copy and paste implementation of EVERY phone on the market.

Something a lot of us don't want. When Appe supports flash, I'll jump ship then.

Maybe you are just clueless... Apple will still have their servers, but developers can offload some push notifications "locally." i.e. the user's device, not the developers servers.

So Apple likes to make money, they are a busniess after all. The cost of $260 also does not include the R&D which by the way is ******* expensive to develop quality device that works.

By all means put up the Millions if not billions of dollars to develop one and then sell it for only the cost of materials, see how long you'll be in business.

Yes, they can't make them fast enough, but PC manufactures already have them. I say an arrendale laptop at bestbuy with a Core i5. It was an HP
Most of the R&D came from developing the iPhone. If they have sold 80million iPhone and iPod touches, I sure they paid of the R&D al ready. I doubt the slight changes in iPad's OS costed much. Its not much research to add a home screen picture.

It's possible HP gave Intel a better deal. I don't know the true reason, maybe Apple has plenty of iChips in stock, but waiting on something else. The did announce new macbooks, etc... at WWDC last year. It's possible they are waiting for WWDC this year as well.

Why don't they just have a Flash On / Flash Off button on these devices and everyone's happy. Same with Multitasking. On and Off button, if people want something to run or process in the background then let them burn their battery, at least they'll get what they want done, done.

But no, some guy has an idea, and he has to be right, what his world is, is the world everyone else has to live in too. Never mind being accommodating or inclusive.

This iPhone 4.0 isn't even the product yet that we should have had originally. This is carrot dangling at it's finest, Apple have now perfected it - they're the masters of it.

They've only shown a few new things, why is everyone assuming that so much will be left out when there's still a lot of time left and at any time they could show another feature that everyone wanted, like an updated lock screen. Apple may not have announced anything new and groundbreaking to the mobile phone world, but they do almost always make it work and look better than anyone else can. People shouldn't go into panic mode so soon

I was impressed with the 4.0 features. You people who complain will complain no matter what. I suggest getting laid, it may help your attitude. That is if you can find a girl with self esteem low enough to give the time of day to a pessimistic gadget nerd.

Have a girlfriend with high self-esteem and get laid regularly. I'm not impressed.

Now where does that leave you? Oh yeah, talking childish rubbish.

I've read a lot about poeple wanting to switch to a new phone in this thread... really guys???

You really don't know how spoiled you are... you're not gonna find anything else remotely close to the feature set of the iPhone. But... we all have our own opinions, so good luck on the switch.

They changed the calculator icon for the bazillionth time. Come on. Stick with one already Apple.

I have a horrible feeling multi-tasking is gonna be a giant bitch. Let me close my damn applications. It probably will drain our batteries faster.

Background for home screen. Eh, my nostalgic-self doesn't like it. Hopefully we can keep a black background.

Game center? No thanks.

I was hoping for a complete overhaul of the iPhone OS interface. But I guess that won't happen till 5.x or 6.x

iAd? Damn it. -___________-||

By the looks of it, the 5x zoom in camera looks like crap.

I think I'll pass on the 4.x software for my 3G and iPod Touch. I'll just get it with the new iPhone in June.

go ask an average person, the iPhone doesnt have the wow factor anymore, its 3 years old, hitting 4 years now, not only that, everyone and their moms owns an iphone or ipod touch

so yes, the i say the iphone OS is getting boring to the average user and the phone geeks too

you dont get that WOW IS THAT AN IPHONE anymore, because its OLD, which isnt the reason why you should buy an iphone, but people are looking for something different, thats why android is rising up

Yeah because I have been WOWED by Android and all the droid phones. All of them with their laggy touch screens, over used widgets and useless customization options.

People are forgetting something very keen here. Most people want a simple to use, easy on the eyes - device. They don't want or need widgets out the ass. Who here is looking at their phone CONSTANTLY to need a damn widget? On a computer, I can understand. A phone? Umm no. I don't need to customize my phone to the point where it looks like a damn MySpace page. We all saw what happened with that ghetto of a website. No thanks.

All these people whining about these things - go - get another phone since you think the grass is SOOO much greener on the other side. Let me tell you, it's not. It's confusing as hell with all the multi task BS droid has. It's like a train wreck of an OS. Now multiply that by 15 different handsets and each one is different.

Yeah - no.

Want another phone? Go get one and leave already. Stop talking and yacking about it - GO DO IT!

You forgot:

x The inability to stack 10 iPhones in a RAID configuration.
x No PS/2 mouse support.
x The lack of a lisp compiler.
x No excuse for not including Apache 2.3.5-alpha.
x Installation of Ubuntu flyingpork-0.8-beta is still not supported.
x Copy/Paste is too late.

Sorry I'm a bit late to this thread, but for the sentiment and execution this has gotta be post of the day ;)

Haha this post is funny, you so havn't used Sense UI on a 1GHz Snapdragon, and widgets make the phone even simpler to use and easier on the eye, you don't have to launch an application if you have a widget loaded on a seperate page.

It is much greener but it has taken till now to get there.

Yeah, because I need another weather widget.

Superior from what standpoint? I would say it is going to be significantly superior from a battery draining stand point.

Am I correct in saying that what I am presented isn't multitasking?

I mean, you can have several apps running in parallel, but only 1 thread, thus, only one app is active at any one point of those apps being opened - therefore the only change is that the app is frozen in memory.

This is easily the funniest thing I've seen all week. I took a screenshot of the original post and I sent it to some of my friends :D

It's not real multitasking in a sense that the app isn't completely running all of its content at the same time as others. Remember, it runs only seven things while not in the foreground. I can't remember all seven, but VOIP, location services, etc. The bare necessities you could say. I thought they solved this pretty well. I guess we'll just have to see how it plays out in the real world this summer!
