I still have an iPhone 2G but I don't know if I'll be getting a new iPhone this summer. I might play with it a bit in the simulator, but I'm wondering now how to make my app "multitask" compatible.
Why can't I close apps? Because Steve Jobs thinks that is stupid. What if I am on IM + or Fring ( whatever msger I use that day ) and I want off and out of it? I can't close it? WTF! Cmon Steve! What if im on a phone call thats important and only have single digit battery life left. I want to close down ALL optional crap to stall my battery life as long as possible. I can't do that?!?!?!
And they dare mention a new advertising system. Oh THANK YOU! You know when I think about what phone I want I always think about the system that is used to advertise to me. No no no, I don't want those stupid advertisements that other phones have, I want needless stupid ads that come with videos I don't want to see. Oh thank you for letting me open your ad in my app so I can make you some money. This is a feature?!?!? This?!? Get a life!

Honestly, a jailbroken iPhone 3G S is the best phone on the market. I have had the droid and nexus 1 and they don't even compare. How someone can prefer that stuttering crap is beyond me. The best phone android has to offer is just not on par. I probably won't get the new iPhone unless there is a spec boost (I'm a techie, I like specs.) I could care less about seeing tweets or whatever you call them just give me a fast phone.
And before you come with that fan boy BS, I could care less about apple and wouldn't own a Mac unless it was given to me.

These are not people complaining. They are nerds who have no idea how a normal avg joe uses a smartphone. Quite sad actually.
Yeah although I understand where they are coming from. They are techies just like I am just without the part of the brain that understands how people actually interface with their electronics. They only understand processor speed numbers
The only thing that's making me want to upgrade is the possibility of an upgraded high quality screen, better camera, new casing.. Software wise, todays preview is still leaps and bounds behind the jailbreaking community. I really don't care what apple offers software wise, as long as I can just jailbreak it. If the hardware upgrade for the new iphone is weak, I'll stick with my current JB3G or look at another phone.
Sorry. Couldn't let that one go. They aren't taking 100% profit. It's a 50% COGS (not even the true COGS) which is pretty conservative for a production business.
And they keep on saying how they'll switch to Android if Apple doesn't comply. That's bs, why not just switch if you want info-filled lockscreens and whatnot?
Do these same people go ranting on Android forums about how they don't have iPhone's usability or feature X and they need to have it, otherwise they're not getting an Android phone? I think not.
These are probably the same people who said they'd move to Canada if Bush won again. They never did get the hell out.
Some bugs I've noticed (on a 3G):
When opening app store, black bar takes up bottom 1/3 of screen until page is loaded
When selecting the URL/search box in safari when the phone is set to silent, a short noise comes through the speaker
Text messages take a little while longer to send and it jumps around the conversation while sending

People switch to APPLE NOT because it's the most advance system. People use APPLE products because they JUST WORK. They WORK wonderfully in it's ecosystem.
Mac OS is very stable doesn't crash every day and is PEOPLE friendly. Airport Extreme Router JUST connects. iPhone JUST works and a 2 years old can use it. APPLE PRODUCT JUST WORK.
People who wants the most advanced specs and customizable everything probably shouldn't be expecting APPLE to change it's philosophy.

Blu-ray is not something Apple wants right now. The reason why should be REALLY CLEAR TO YOU if you "only had a brain - Wizard of Oz". Just in case you don't, it's called iTunes. Their big ole' checking account of cash flow. Yeah, let's add blu-ray to all our machines and severe that main cash flow. How wise!
If you want a 5mp camera, get a point and shoot. Unless the phone/hardware is MEANT to be used in such a manner to garner a higher pixel camera - it's more of a convenience than anything. Life's little moments deserve more than 3/5 mega pixels taken from your mobile phone. Put some effort into it and break out the digicam. Seriously.
Multitasking has it's place. Not sure what the big deal is. Do you really need all that crap open as is? Shouldn't you be having fun with life, school, friends, movies, education or possible driving? Do you really need to be jacked in 24/7? GO - enjoy nature before we destroy it all by making all these new technologies.
Flash can stay the hell away from ANY of my mobile devices. Thank ghetto hunk of code can't even run smoothly on desktop systems, let alone mobile ones. Flash is a joke and it needs to GO! Have you ever used Hulu? Ever run the measly 480p videos? It SUCKS DOWN cpu power. It's a joke. It will bring a hell of a machine down a few bars because of it. It is the worst steaming pile of a plugin I have ever used.

I make no excuses for Apple. The only thing I like is iTunes and my iPhone 3GS. If the latest iPhone is worth it, I will upgrade. If not, I will keep the phone I have. Apple needs to add new tech - IE blu-ray to it's machines and face the music. They need to stop jipping the customers on standard features.
Lastly, some of the customers need to stop whining and realize just who Apple is. If you want someone to snuggle up in bed with you - find a teddy bear. If you want a technology/software manufacturer - well - there you have it.
I don't care for a high-resolution camera on a cell phone. Why? Because if I want to take pictures that I will be printing or sharing, I have a digital camera which has a purpose of taking high-quality pictures. I only want my phone camera for taking quick pics of things I find interesting or want to send to someone else's phone.
You may not care for them but others will.
I don't feel the need to carry around a digital camera on a daily basis because they are heavy, take up space and sometimes I don't even have a bag to carry them in (being a guy).
Like you said, a camera on a phone is great for quick snap shots to send away but the compact form factor of a cell phone that can take quality pictures is pretty handy.
I have a Sony Cybershot point-and-shoot and a Canon DSLR, I usually keep the Sony with me in my car, and take the Canon when I'm on vacation.
That being said, if the new iPhone had a 8MP camera with 3x optical and flash, I may be able to do without my Sony camera.

i hate people who say apple products are sooooo expensive its like there only defense against apple products, plus on top of that they usually know nothing about any product regardless of even there own, but it pisses me off even more when they say it just because they cant afford it. and as an example the ipad it coast 219$ to make so they have to sell it more than that if it coast 500 do the math they have to make a profit, its 280$ but thats how business work. Well i bet u will all get mad at me for saying this but its the fact that this is most peoples only defense against apple products this might not effect the iphone but as i see it if u don't like it get a different phone or do what i do when a new iphone or ipad comes out a year later sell ur old one and buy the new one. SO IN YOUR FACE SOCIETY
I don't want more megapixels.
But I would like to be able to take better pictures.
A two-megapixel camera, with a reasonable sized sensor, good lens, and good low-light capability would be able to do that. Such a camera would produce better pictures.
But that would be difficult to do.
So instead we have people falling for the "more megapixels = better" nonsense.
