All I want is an iPhone that evolves. I DON'T want a lot of MP. But I do want a phone that is worth its price - And the iPhone is so outdated both hardware- and software wise that the price is getting ridiculous. I agree that some people don't want upgrades, but this guy talked about the "average user" and let's face it: The average user thinks a lot about what's new and hot. And the iPhone is NOT anymore!

And if the iphone is not HOT then why does is outselling other phones and why does it a large percent of marketshare? You tell me because i can look at the numbers right now and they say HOT.

I don't know of any phone that puts every single feature everyone wants in it do you?

So because i don't care about widgets and multitasking im a fanboy? Let me tell you something. I don't fidgit with my phone all day and im not addicted to it. i use my phone to listen to music,Browse the web and mess with apps. But i dont care about notification because i don't tweet or text.

So don't try to force your wants on me okay?

Second the average consumer that walks into an AT&T store or any cell phone store is probarly not going to care about specs. You seem to not realize that.

..but you're trying to say that the iPhone isn't behind, even though it is lacking features present in most of its competitors. You don't need to like a certain feature to admit that the iPhone is behind the times for not having it.

Their always lagging behind competition.

Blue ray - still haven't implemented this on there systems. !
And we should care why? Why is everyone so obsessed with BlueRay?

Intel’s core i5 or i7 processors!
Intel cannot produce the chis fast enough for Apple to release them, go cry on Intel's doorstep.

Iphone’s camera 3mp, respectively should be 5mp!
You opinion! The 3.2MP camera of the iPhone takes better pictures than some 5-8MP camera phones I have seen.(my opinion) Pixels aren't the deciding factor of what is good.

Multitasking – WOW people had to jailbreak to get this! So kinda old news right?!

Yeah, so what. Apple doesn't release anything until they fell they have it "right." Take for instance Copy and Paste, again, available to jailbreakers prior to Apple's implementation - which by the way surpases the copy and paste implementation of EVERY phone on the market.

Java or Flash HAHA this would make me go WOW!
Something a lot of us don't want. When Appe supports flash, I'll jump ship then.

Also push notification will be pushed towards the developers, so does this mean rubbish service from the developers? And if they close up shop! Wheres the service then?!
Maybe you are just clueless... Apple will still have their servers, but developers can offload some push notifications "locally." i.e. the user's device, not the developers servers.

PERSONALLY I believe apple are overpriced, especially reading it only cost apple $260 to make the ipad and sell it at almost 100% profit, makes me sick!
So Apple likes to make money, they are a busniess after all. The cost of $260 also does not include the R&D which by the way is ******* expensive to develop quality device that works.

By all means put up the Millions if not billions of dollars to develop one and then sell it for only the cost of materials, see how long you'll be in business.

..but you're trying to say that the iPhone isn't behind, even though it is lacking features present in most of its competitors. You don't need to like a certain feature to admit that the iPhone is behind the times for not having it.

Again, you're comparing a 1 and 2 year old phone with phones that were just released weeks to a few months ago. Let's also look at all the Andriod phones, how many have the new operating system. So far only the Nexus One and the Andriod - all others are waiting for the manufacturers or the cariers to update to get the new features if they even do at at all.

Get off of your soap box. No iPhone user will say they don't want any of the features out there, we simply know that patience will pay of with what we do get.

But the thing is this. Is that you and i like different features in a phone. So i'm not going to say that background notification is a feature the iphone is lacking because i don't care about that feature enough to say yay or nay.

Some people like their iphones. And for you to say i should dislike mine just because it doesnt have a feature that YOU like is stupid. So you like what you like and i will like what i like.

yeah because if you had an opportunity to make tons of money with some savvy marketing and get people to buy whatever you sell them at huge profits you wouldnt do it right?

Completely agree that’s why I bought a dell laptop rather then a MBP and I work for apple, even with my 20% I still never bought it.

Personally I love new gadgets, but truly believe they need to get a grip and provide consumers with technology that is currently in demand.

Yea but how much money can they make if they fail to provide consumers with updated hardware? Its always going to be a matter of time.

I'm actually comparing an OS that was announced TODAY, to phones that were released weeks to a few months ago. The iPhone 4.0 OS is newer technology than the software on the Android phones recently released.

Therefore it's absolutely fair to say that the iPhone OS is still lacking some features.

The Iphone can now have over 2000 apps at once if you wish. It supports multitasking for apps that actually have a reason to be multitasking and not using push notifications. You can open attachments from email using app store programs. Background API's for apps that upload things to servers (great feature here, gonna work great in mobile me galleries). Local notifications is great too for local apps as well. I could see this being used to push out something like mass transit delays or something such as that. Background GPS too??

I mean apple has sold 50 million of the damn things because they just work. They took a major step forward and its gonna take them even further.

I mean if you really want to play with linux distro's the iphone isn't for you LOL

.

Yea but how much money can they make if they fail to provide consumers with updated hardware? Its always going to be a matter of time.

And once again 2 Types of consumers. People who techies or whatever the term is who are always into technology and always creaming over SPECS and then the average consumer who wants a phone and doesn't care are specs or if they parallel park a tardis with it

You guys need to understand that a lot of us who complains actually owns an iPhone ourselves. The difference between us and you guys are the fact that we can look critically upon the product.

To answer your "question": Simply because it WAS the best phone. It isn't without reason that HTC is growing with great speed. But of course the iPhone won't loose great market shares right away - "Average" users haven't yet discovered that it isn't superior anymore. But they're not stupid - They will.

And i own 2 Iphone 3gs's as well as an ipad, MBP and other apple products and and have been using macs all my life since i was 7 and now im 30. In addition to that i've used PC's all my life as well and have had smartphones going all the way back to the TREO 600. So don't sit there and dismiss someone like they are stupid.

I know that there is not going to be one phone that does it all. And if you want features that the iphone doesn't offer. E-mail Steve Jobs or don't buy one anymore. But by complaining on here and not understanding other people's points of view thats not going to accomplish anything

Apple will have specific software features for the 4th gen device that they did not discuss today, just as they have done with every OS/hardware announcement prior.

It doesn't matter how old the hardware is if it's capable of running the software. The iPhone 3GS would not struggle to run widgets, or a less intrusive notification system.

Therefore, unless Apple have hidden features that they haven't announced yet, their software is still a bit dated as usual.

haha 30? hope you found a wife during that time LOL.

im 24 on a forum arguing about a phone! blady hell do i need to get a life!

this is more like a cult then anything else, all the staff in the apple store sound they have been brainwashed with crap! thank GOD i only work in there Finance department!

You obviously didn't catch my point - People seem to think that those who complains are "Haters". What you clearly don't realize is the fact that we got products worth thousands of dollars, and don't just "Hate" as this would be pretty darn stupid. We just think that what we bought because it was the superior choice isn't anymore - And we're disappointed.

LOL :D i"m stuck at home with a cold now! that's why i've been spending alot of time on here. And between being on here and watching doctor who i havent found anything better to do

Obviuosly you don't know how to read... GO BACK and re-read my post about Android operating systems on the many phones out there. When EVERY Android phone gets EVERY new software feature, then and ONLY THEN will you have a point.

Yes, there are features I want on the iPhone that are not yet available. It doesn't mean I'm going to post in every thread, not you - others, that I'm getting a different phone because Apple doesn't love me anymore.

AH! I misread that. And i get it you spend alot of money on something and you want a good return. But it's the nature of beast. You should know by now and im not sure how many generations of the iphone you had. But it's par for the course for apple to always hold things back.

Other companies do this to.

At the moment, I'm typing this on a jailbroken old 3G with backgrounder, categories, and not to mention Winterboard, SBSettings and all the extras I get with those. However, my iPhone is deemed not worthy for 4.0???

yeah. you guys are morons. I don't understand why you stand here and complain . If you don't like it then MOVE TO ANOTHER PLATFORM. don't bore me and flood these threads with your garbage.

The garbage isn't want apple is selling, its what you are hating....EVERYTHING. Apple could give you haters everything on OS 4.0 and you feel the entitlement of something else missing.

First off, this multitasking isn't about multitasking..its about "how to run pandora while doing other things". I mean if you really think your android and other platforms have true-multitasking, then you really don't know the definition of multitasking. Apple's solution works, its exactly the same concept i thought of one year ago and I am pissed they took it from me. You are limited to screen space that is 4 in in diagonal, you have to keep that in mind. This "alt+tab" switching system with saved "states" for apps is the by far the best way to go about this. This was a complete win win. You buys bought Iphone 3G for Apps store OS. You bought Iphone 3GS for upgrade with push notifications. Thats what you bought. You didn't BUY the 4.0 OS. And basically, just because you own a Iphone, you feel entitled on the next iteration? Software upgrades are a privalege and a bonus. How about we start removing this sense of entitlement and get a damn life.

For people who think Apple is BSing about multitouch not coming to 3G. Well, two things I have to say about that...first, people who think video can be done on 3g vs 3gs, HAVE YOU SEE THE VIDEOS? its all choppy and terrible. This was clear and why they made it only for 3GS. The second reason would be that, 3G owners will get a upgrade to the new Iphone when it comes out. It just another way to get you snatched up. If you can have iphone 4.0 on the older phones, they wouldn't make any more money on hardware.

What's next, printer support? are you serious? Printer support?!!!! If anything, use airsharing or the any other apps that off printer support. Are we really arguing about printer support? DIE.

The only argument that holds some ground that is more of a preference but most people don't give a crap is the push notifications. Android and palm have the best implementation of this. But Apple isn't going to fully change this or there clearly wasn't any sign. The push notification format on the OS already wasn't bad, its not the best but it's doable. So whatever.

I just don't get it...

Ok, so Jobs knows there is jailbreaker developers out there, and they have found ways to impliment the cusomization of what the user wants... Bring to the Iphone what should be in the next updates... but how come it takes so long for apple to impliment these updates?

for example:
A) Folders:.... Wow I think we call that Categories in the JB world

B) Multitasking:.... they should have just used multifl0w... (yes I think it is 10x's better than proswitcher)

C) a Unified E-mail inbox.... incredible how if we wanted a unified inbox, we could have all our e-mail accounts forwarded to one address

D) iAds:.... no comment, now we have to sift through ads in everything we do iphone... GREAT IMPROVEMENT!!!

E) Games:... there is a reason why the business world doesnt use Iphones, because they keep focusing on stupid games instead BB users laugh at our toys.

F) More than one exchange account: that must have really been hard to impliment, i mean how many people were screaming for that one?

anyways, your getting to see my point, I believe they needed a HUGE facelift for those who want customization of the UI and honestly little things like "THEMES" or "sounds" or lockscreen can go a LONG way with the people... incredible how Apple thinks that after almost 4 years they dont have to change a thing to the UI...

I dont know I am more and more thinking of getting the HTC EVO.

Totally. I mean they only sold, what, 85 million iPhones and iPod Touches? And have only 65% of the mobile browsing market?

For awhile, the iPhone was the best smartphone on the market, which is when a ton of sales came from. Plus, you have to separate the average MacRumors user from average users. We're advanced users, we want more things, like customization options, an improved notification system, etc. The regular user probably doesn't care much about those things. Like my aunt has expressed interest in getting an iPhone, while I wouldn't get one, I'd recommend one for her because it is easy to use, and she rarely texts, doesn't IM or email much and just wants something to surf the web with. People like her are who the iPhone is a hit with. But for us advanced people, we have to go somewhere else, to Android or BlackBerry.

Also, in terms of non-phone MP3/video players, the iPod Touch is still king. There are a couple Android based devices out there, but they're not made by any major companies and you won't find one at your local Best Buy. I wouldn't buy an iPhone, but if I was in the market for a strictly PMP device, the iTouch would be my choice. Without a constant internet connection (at least not for me as there's no WiFi at work), there's less of a need for a better notification system and things like that.

D) iAds:.... no comment, now we have to sift through ads in everything we do iphone... GREAT IMPROVEMENT!!!

All iAds is doing is replacing the crappy ads in the free versions of apps that implement ads now. Your iPhone is not going to be ad-supported, and you won't have to wait 10 seconds for an EA ad to complete before making a phone call.

Your phone will work the same as it does now, but the ads in the free apps will be better, unified types of ads.
