Here's me playing Bedrock Minecraft on my M1 Air with all video settings set to max, 70 degree field of view, and Render Distance at 32 chunks.

View attachment 1677125

This is the newest version of Minecraft. I own it on iPad, so I just downloaded the .ipa file from my iPad and it installed fine on my Mac. It runs very fast, and allows up to an 80 chunk draw distance. I used a PS4 controller to play. It can connect via bluetooth or USB.

This isn't perfect yet, as it should play full screen/res vs. playing in a window. But my point is that it will be trivial for Microsoft to update this to work perfectly on this Mac.

Let me know if you have any questions or if there is a particular thing you would like to see me do like connect to a server or download something from the store (all of which work). Or I can play multiplayer if you wish to see that.

Sorry there is no sound in the recording. It doesn't seem like the macOS built in screen recorder can capture sound. I can assure you all Minecraft sounds are working fine.
Wait, how would you update this? Would you have to update it on your iPad and download the .ipa to your Mac again? And where are the world files stored?

I hope Mojang updates bedrock to work with M1 Macs. Until then, you can use Bignox, an Android Emulator, on your Mac. The reason I say Bignox instead of BlueStacks is because for Minecraft PE, Bignox has built in controls.

Me, too. It’s one of those things that should be an easy “gimme” for them.

I'd love to be wrong, but I wouldn't get your hopes up for a proper Mac version anytime soon. The code base is already there, but they seem to want to leverage Minecraft as a Windows 10 exclusive.
Then why not leverage it as a Xbox exclusive also? They ported the bedrock edition to Playstation 4.

Yes. Anything you have updated on your iPad appears in iMazing and you can download the .ipa again. I just upgraded to the newest version this way and it works quickly and easily.

And where are the world files stored?

If you use spotlight to search for "Minecraft" you will find the worlds. On my machine the path looks like this:

Code:
/Users/MK500/Library/Containers/blah-blah-long-code-here/Data/Documents/games/com.mojang

And, they currently have it under macOS for Java. Bedrock would connect a good number of users already in the macOS ecosystem with their In App Purchases, which would make them no small amount of money, likely worth taking the small effort to tweak the iOS version. Plus, they wouldn’t have to support the Java version natively on M1 machines.

I’d be surprised if they didn’t have someone working on this already.

Running the iPhone ipa works fine on my M1 MacBook Pro fine, but the controller support seems broken, it drifts and sticks, so it's always spinning off in random directions.

I've tried it with a bluetooth PS4 controller and a older Nimbus controller via lighting cable.

Anyone else running into controller issues with Minecraft on an M1?

Yes. As of Big Sur 11.1 all iOS apps can run full screen.

Caveats:
- It is 4:3 on a 16:9 screen so you end up with black bars on the sides.
- The lower resolution is more noticeable when in full screen.

Remember this is basically the iPad app running on Mac. It's very fast since it runs native. However there are limitations because it doesn't really "know" it's on a higher resolution MacBook/Mini.

Just fired it up and played a while using my DS4 on Bluetooth. No drift or any other problems. Usually that would be what happens when the stick is dying (I have a couple dead DS4s with this problem). But that's odd if it's happening with two different controllers. Do you have a different DS4 you can try? What version Minecraft are you running (lower right corner on main menu).

Does the issue happen immediately, or only after you play for a while? I only played about 10 minutes tonight; but could try longer tomorrow.

Can you send a video tutorial for this? I'm not sure how you would get the new world files to the new .ipa. Also, if you install Minecraft via iOS, will the resolution/aspect ratio like an iPad or an iPhone? (sorry for late reply, somehow i didn't get an email notification)
Edit: actually nvm, i found a youtube comment saying you can launch app store in imazing and download updates that way (syncing via wi-fi)

As it happens I did this yesterday. I used the Apple Configurator 2 method, but it's much the same. Very simple, but the trick was to airdrop the .ipa to the Apple Silicon Mac (i.e. use another Mac to get the .ipa from the iPad and then airdrop). This step removes the "you do not have permission to run this" error message.

The .ipa is the app, not your world or save files. You would need to retrieve those via your account or airdrop the world files. In my case the world we used was a realm, so just log-in with your Microsoft account for Minecraft. I have used airdrop to transfer worlds to and from my children's devices.

The aspect ratio is 4:3, so in full screen I have black bars on either side on my 16:9 32" 4K display.

I mean, I guess that's kinda annoying you have to do that every update, but it's not too bad. And it is running natively, so that's good.

There hasn’t been an update since I side loaded it, so I remain hopeful that it will update automatically. Hopeful, but not confident.

Probably just wishful thinking, but I wondered if the next update might bring official M1 support for bedrock Minecraft with native display sizing and an option keyboard and mouse controls.

We can live in hope.

That would be epic: both versions of minecraft running natively on M1, you could play with everyone you knew who has any version of minecraft! i mean you can do that with android emulators but NATIVELYYYYY!

I also used my M1 mini (16GB/1TB) as a Minecraft server using ARM64 Java. Predictably no problem at all for the mini.

I can never get keyboard and mouse to work on iPad or M1. I don't understand why it's showing to have keyboard support but nothing works. Is there a special setting I'm missing? The only way to play is through controller it seems.

Same here. Have to use a controller (or touch screen on iPad). Mouse on M1 acts like a finger on touchscreen. Keyboard is only for chat/commands. Strange that they left the redundant keyboard mouse section of the settings menu in when it does nothing.

You're not missing settings: despite iOS 14's recent addition for apps to add keyboard controls, Mojang hasn't added that into Minecraft PE. The only way is a controller, unless Mojang adds that in.

It is strange, why have it there if it's useless?

The worlds are not removed when you update the app, as they are stored in a different location. So you can safely update without losing your data.

For now it's again possible to install iOS apps to M1. It is unsure how long this is. So, might want to download and install while it's possible. The iAmaizing2 solution worked for me.

this guy made a program that can still extract the .ipa and install it despite the recent change. He hasn't released it yet, but it should be epic! my only question: how would you update these?
