iPad mini Mini 5 in Apple Stores?

I just cancelled my order with Apple and placed an order with Best Buy. It's in the store and will be ready for me to pick up in an hour. March 27 seems a lot better than April 9. I had to choose a different color (gold was out of stock) but it's a minor thing. Very excited to get this - it will be a drastic upgrade from my Mini 2.

There are 256 GB at my local Best Buy right now. They also have Cellular models in the various combinations. Quantities are in the single-digits.

As much as I love Apple, they still have a very hard time with their product launches.
They launch an online order, but give no date. Ship to stores, but in (extremely) limited quantities. Keep sales people in the dark, especially those at distributors.
 
iPad Mini is in hand. I just have to set it up.

I suspect that Best Buy isn't supposed to start selling them until Friday but how are you going to stop them. I'm happy that it's here. Yes, their distribution is inconsistent and chaotic but people are happy once they arrive.

Nashua NH. But they're in Manchester NH and Salem NH as well.

You can just put in your location for your area to find the Best Buy stores with inventory and then zoom out if you need to. The numbers at my local stores are very low now so it may be best to try in the morning for your local store.

From pictures, it looks like at least the microphone setup has been changed. There's now a dual microphone setup at the top center of the iPad, moved from the two near the camera before. Not sure about the buttons.

Thanks for the info.

I have a new mini 4 case here. Will see how it does tomorrow, when the new mini arrives. Not really concerned about the mic, as long as the buttons line up correctly. If they don't, I won't like not having protection on the bottom when I will have the Smart Cover for the front.

Shipment dates for the iPad mini have slipped to a minimum of Apr 11 according to the Apple Store app - I think even Apple didn’t expect that much demand for the device...

Apple stores should have enough stock though, although I’m surprised I still can’t order for pickup.

I suspect that there was a lot of pent-up demand for the other Mini last year too.

I am in NYC and as of this afternoon the Apple Store nearby had the space gray and silver (but not gold) minis, at least 64GB wifi which is what I wanted.
 
I think your best bet is to call the # of the store you want to go to - I did that and my call was routed to an Apple support person but he was able to check the specific store inventory. I didn't think to ask if they could put a hold for me but since I wasn't really speaking anyone at the store that might be hard to accomplish.

PS - There were no display models out yet.

I tried picking up an air today but they told me they aren’t selling yet. They told me they would definitely be on display tomorrow but still not sure if they will sell them.

Guess I’ll try again tomorrow
 
I finally just gave up. I ordered through T-Mobile and I will get it whenever I will get it.

I didn’t even pay for 1 day shipping. :confused:

Although if it doesn’t ship by Friday, I might check my local T-Mobile store to see if they have it in stock by then. If they do, I will cancel the other order.
 
I was told Friday here at an Apple store in Vancouver.

I have to say that I have been able to pick up nearly every recent iPad release before the designated day, so I am hoping they will let it go on sale tomorrow.
 
Similar situation at Union Square in SF - they’re not selling until Friday ‍♂️. Not terrible, but a little annoying.
 
I saw that a poster was able to pick one up from Apple tonight, so I ran to my local store and...

My first thoughts on mini5 vs mini4:

- such buttery
- same size
- space grey a bit darker
- bezel is darker/matte compared to bezel on old 2015 model (that shiny bezel from 2015 showed some scuffs over time)
- old cases (haven't tried a smart cover) are not compatible, as the volume buttons shift a bit higher on the 5.
- pencil input is great for me. (goodnotes zoom window is much more useful on the mini... )
- long live the mini.
