I half wonder if MLB offered a package for him to walk away.

One article I read mentioned "settlement", so they probably did.

Found one:

The 62-year-old and MLB worked out a financial settlement that resulted in the controversial umpire walking away from the league after more than 30 years, according to multiple reports.

So kids, the lesson here is be absolutely horrible at your job and you will get paid to leave it.

lol as opposed to being awesome at your job and not getting a raise...

Either way, it was time for him to move on and to let someone more...capable...of taking over.

No matter what baseball site/page/content there was a surprising amount of content was lambasting him. I think fan outrage over his horrible officiating was getting back to him and MLB.
It's not like he was only bad in the limited time he was back this season. He's been horribly incompetent for years and years. Both Hernandez and MLB knew of the fans' displeasure for 20 years or more. What kept him around so long is the strength of the umpire's labor union.

So the lesson is, if you know you can't do a job well, make sure you're in a union.

There is a perception he is the worst ump. But per MLB ratings, he was graded in the 70s out of 90. So...not the worst,

While I'm not a big union guy, unions have made life better for working people, for the most part.

My post was not intended to be a commentary on the merits of unions. As with just about everyting in life, there are positives and negatives.
none taken... either way I believe we're all correct...

Now they need to go back and give that dude his perfect game ... Yes, I know Hernedez didn't blow that one.

A much welcome and overdue wrong finally corrected:

Personally, I think this is awesome but I'm sure there will a small percentage of people who will take issue with this. Doesn't matter though.

The rumblings are getting louder
With Alex Cora’s old boss in town, it seems clear the Red Sox will soon need a new one

I think he's a decent manager, and I think the issues facing the Red Sox are due to the front office and even ownership, but as the saying goes, you can't fire the team, you also can't fire the owners.

The Red Sox appear to be stuck in a morose mediocrity, they dump Chris Sale and basically get nothing for him, and yet he's now back to his old form it seems. They've let some other very talented players head to free agency and/or traded them to avoid their high price contracts. They seem content with what they have.

Red Sox tickets are selling, but attendance still remains lower than expected
The Red Sox are averaging 31,059 fans per game, “a respectable enough figure,” so "regardless of the quality of the product on the field, fans enjoy going to Fenway to experience a game,” according to Sean McAdam of MASSLIVE.com

Until the ownership feels the pressure to put a good team on the field, this is what we'll be getting. At best They're a .500 team, the past few years they've been a sub .500 team. If people are still willing to pay the highest ticket prices in MLB, there's really little reason for them to change.

You're not wrong... the Giants are also kinda bad.. so that helps...

And Snell is hurt again...
Well, they did a great job against 2 very good starters with Webb and Hicks.

And I had a feeling something was off with Snell. You don't just go from Cy Young to a 10+ ERA if something isn't wrong. I feel awful, but that was one of my main concerns with The Yankees possibly signing him.

The Braves have not look as good as they did last year. They dominated the regular season, only to get bounced out so quickly.
With Acuna out for the season, its looking more dire then ever.

I have youtube tv, and also the MLB package. What that means, is I have no way of watching the Red Sox, but I get to watch other games. ATL is on my short list to watch, and they just don't have the same mojo as last year.

Should be done, many guys played in MLB too after 1947, but it will be tough. A lot of records are incomplete. Like, exactly how many no hitters did Satchel Paige throw?

And for the people who say it shouldn't count because it's a different league, the AL and NL didn't face each other in the regular season until the 90s. So yeah, I'm going to stop myself there before I get political lol.

wow.

Good.

Shouldn't he/they have known better?

"...players are Oakland Athletics pitcher Michael Kelly, Padres minor league pitcher Jay Groome, Philadelphia Phillies minor league infielder José Rodríguez and Arizona Diamondbacks minor league pitcher Andrew Saalfrank.

The MLB said that none of the players are appealing their discipline."

I hope they screwed over in their bets by Angel Hernandez blown calls... lol

Snell has been on the IL twice this season too...

I hope his contract includes a team option for next season, but I don't think it does, and it's a player option.

Could be another player who goes to SF on a big contract and doesn't deliver, but picks up their option for some easy money. Johnny Cueto comes to mind, but there have been others. At least Snell only has a two-year deal.

Baseball is a game of streaks, if there ever was one, so what was an 8-2 streak, is followed by 0-5.

But the kicker is that 10 game tear only got the team just above .500, and now it's back below again, in a pack of five or six teams vying for the final wild card spot.

It's understandable to lose to the good teams, like the Yankees, but looking bad against similarly mediocre competition is the knife twister…
