Giants to sign Willy Adames. 7 years, $182M. That's what it takes to shore up a massive hole in the team. Hope it works out.

$765M over 15 years.

I guarantee that at the next CBA, there will be a contingent of owners begging, pleading and demanding a salary cap. If one player can command as much salary as an entire team (sometimes two), then you know that there are going to be calls for caps.

I have zero faith that it will happen and if that's the case, I could see it derailing the season following the CBA sessions.

I see both sides though. Players want to get paid and only a very small number of owners can pony up that kind of dough. From an economic stand point, it isn't sustainable BUT it does entice more and more younger players to keep playing as far as they can throughout their careers.

At least I dont have to worry about Soto tormenting the Red Sox on a weekly basis going forward.

Red Sox rotation for this coming year seems much improved.
The fact that the Red Sox landed Walker Buehler on a 1 year deal was surprising to me. Hopefully his arm doesn't fall off again and he can re-sign for additional years.

I also wouldn't mind if they went out and got Corbin Burnes as well but we are also in desperate need of some hitting. Losing Tyler O'Neal SUUUUUCKS....

Yeah, you know I would have guessed they would have waited to make major acquisitions until the top talent from the minors were ready to make the jump to the Big Show, and then make a push to create a World Series competitive team. I think they’re maybe a year early, Mayer and Anthony may be ready in 2025 but not all prospects make an immediate impact.

Youre not wrong but I think (and SINCERELY hope) ownership got an earful from the fans in Boston about going "Full throttle" last year when in reality, they barely pressed on the gas and didn't sign any real impactful players.

Giving Cedanne that contract, IMO, was a bit pre-mature. Trevor Story needs to stay healthy this season. Yoshida is swinging at everything. Casas can be productive if he stays healthy.

2nd base is a moving/roving position that needs some serious help.

Durran and Raffy are really the only ones holding the team together at the moment.

But speaking of "Not all prospects make an immediate impact"...I present exhibits A and B

Both Dalbec and Chavis have the talent to stay in the bigs. Their errors and strikeouts are what have cost them major league spots on any teams they've played for. Dalbec is a decent 1st baseman, same for Chavis but neither one of them can hit a fastball to save their life.

Still, Garrett Crochet looks like a good pitcher… they certainly gave up enough to get him. Kyle Teel (catcher hitting .298 in triple-A), Braden Montgomery (2024 first rounder), Chase Meidroth (hitting .293 in triple-A), and Wikelman Gonzalez (pitcher). That’s a fat haul of prospect talent, some ready for the majors this year.

It seems to me there is kind of a lack of grinding out results with some of the Sox prospects. That they are temperamentally unwilling or unable to extend an at-bat to like 9-10 pitches… that kind of toughness is something that I’ve only seen occasionally in players like Kyle Schwarber.
