So this has very little to do with the thread but I'm not a fan of making threads in the iPhone forum about AT&T and I'm sure we can all enjoy a little "Verizon Math" story AT&T style.

I have the $39.99 rate plan and while looking to see if my "opt out" was gone as well I remembered that when the iPhone 3GS came out my rate was reduced to $33.99, I also realized that I haven't seen this on my bill for the past few months, yet it is still showing up online. I called AT&T to ask them about this and they told me that the $33.99 rate reflects my company discount which is $10.50. So I asked why it isn't 29.49 seeing as that would accurately reflect my $10.50 discount to which I was told "Because that would be too much of a discount." I asked the rep if he was telling me that $39.99 with my $10.50 corporate discount was accurately reflected as $33.99 and he replied "Yes, it is". I asked him "So are you telling me that $33.99 with a $10.50 discount equals $33.99?" to which he replied "Yes, that is your discount.".

I honestly didn't know what else to say, so I just said thanks and hung up.

I actually think that's worse than the Verizon Math incident.

Sounds like you get the same company discount that I get - 15%. The discount is actually 15% off the voice plan ($6.00) and 15% off the iphone data plan ($4.50) - that's where they get the $10.50 figure.

ok this is weird i updated to 5.1 a week and a half ago and it didn't work. it started working around friday but only if i send a pic to myself no one else gets them nor do i get anyone elses. since then it works sometimes and then doesn't work.

i just tried the phone#@mms.att.net and it worked.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to switch to the official once it comes out...going to do a restore and set up as a new phone the night before just to avoid any conflicts.

do you need to go through the same command/terminal steps to get the current one off so it updates or should it update automatically even though we already have 5.1

If you restore, and then set up as a new phone when prompted, it completely removes everything the carrier file did. Granted you have to set the phone up like it were new again (re-arrange apps, lose settings/saved games, etc)...but it's the only way to get it completely clean.

The iphone automatically backs up as soon as you dock it, so my problem was that the carrier file got into the backup. Restoring from backup put the carrier file back on.


Setting up as new doesn't bother me that much, but may be an issue for others.

If they release the carrier file and iTunes detects and downloads it for you...you SHOULD be fine. It will overwrite the settings.

However I love a fresh clean slate, so I personally will restore and set up as a new iphone for peace of mind.

ok im trying test my MMS the only people i know on AT&T have iphones that don't have new carrier file. i received a MMS from him and by the xxxx@mms.att.net and it worked. i tried 2 dif people on verizion i don't get they're pics and they don't get mine.

i found a friend on sprint i get his and he gets mine.

i understand i just find it weird its working for some phone companys and not others.

so I added the 5.1 carrier file on my sisters 3G iPhone and on my 3GS last week, and it its been working for her just fine (she's on my moms family plan w/ unlimited text) but I have had no luck (i have my own separate plan with 1500 text) and we live in the same house.

she's 16 and has an unlimited text plan, and she has been going MMS crazy texting all of her friends. this was the one reason she did not want an iPhone, now she's set.

we live in Modesto, Ca. I work and travel all over the bay area (san jose, Sunnyvale, palo alto, mountain view) and I can not send MMS from anywhere as of today.

It has to do on a thing AT&T calls, per account basis. Maybe your moms & sisters account had the "MMS Opt-Out" feature removed, but yours still has it in place.

I figure that EVERYONe will have it by the deadline. They are doing areas early I suppose.

the best way to find out if your 'opt-out' is removed is to email your own number @mms.att.net

then check your email in like 2 min...

i get a error msg saying this number has mms restricted.
