It "was" official for a little while... What happened? Why no longer except for if you follow that link? Doesn't make sense... What gives? With this change, can you log into iChat with a @me.com account finally? iTunes?

my rant on the name

The problem with this society is that everything is now about Me! I always thought the windows use of "my computer" and so on was pretentious. They're selling a stuff to millions but trying to make it look unique to each individual but its not. Just another example of deceptive marketing.

The Missing Installer: How To Install Boxed MobileMe for Mac

The box tells you to go to me.com/activate which did not work for me. I had to dig through Apple’s MobileMe FAQ to find this link, https://secure.me.com/wo/WebObjects/Signup.woa/wa/activation.

Meanwhile, I was not a .Mac customer and had never used or installed anything .Mac before so the MobileMe Updater never showed up in my Software Update (not even in the ignored updates section). So I had to search the net and found the URL (http://swcdn.apple.com/content/down...5bfX79JhhCXfMyvhhPFHBcmwMpJnTzMX/MobileMe.pkg) for the installer to add the MobileMe preference pane so that I can actually use MobileMe on my Mac

Its not so much about "me" as much as it is about it working for "some" and not others... One second it is their, next it isn't... I would like for my system to be setup before having to go back to work tomorrow... The only thing I'm missing is the MobileMe update and the Black 16GB iPhone! Thats all!

Is thing ever "officially" going to appear in software update?
I've tried links in this thread to supposed packages, and all I get is gibberish.

Just a Guess

The MobilMe.pkg that posted is only for Leopard. On MobileMe's website it describes that it is available for anybody with 10.4.11 and newer. My guess is they are probably still working on the compatibility for 10.4.11 and newer. This would explain why some people have the program for 10.5, and why it hasn't gone public. - But it is just a guess.
