Mobile Me will going to get free acoording to you soon but the Apple will not give any refund who already paid for that in advance so ones it is paid it is gone.It is a facility for the new users who goes for it.Anyways hardluck.

I don't know if this already exists or not but,

Is there a way to seamlessly sync Outlook to iCal, Mail, Address Book?

I know there are software that you can use to export/import between those I just mentioned, but it takes work and I think it's not something for average lamens.

If someone, someday, somehow comes up with a way to seamlessly integrate Outlook to iCal, Mail, Address book, using MobileMe(or dropbox), I think that person deserves some kind of award. Maybe like the Nobel Peace prize? =)

Wow. So much misinformation for such a short post.

1. The "fact" that it will be free is simply a rumor
2. If the rumor turns out to be true, there is no hint of whether or not there will be a refund
3. It's entirely possible that there will be a less feature-rich "free" version which means those people who paid will continue to have the better "paid" version
4. See #1

Isn't Outlook integration a standard feature of MobileMe. I've never used it by I remember they advertised it at the start?

Or have you tried it and found the integration isn't as deep and comprehensive as you need it to be?

Well, I can tell Apple obviously wants to give the development tools for free. They're really trying to get more and more people the ability to just program Apple stuff, so if there's no cost, of course it'll attract them. I do find it nice because it does allow *everybody* to create some kind of app or widget. I got started doing so, just recently. Mainly widget and inital iPhone kind of stuff. I'm not a big fan of Objective C, though. I'm trying to learn it, but it just seems a bit trickier to grasp its syntax than all the other languages I used. It's the first language in which I feel like I'm starting from scratch with and I actually know C, C++, and Java really well.

But not to get off the subject. It would be nice if MobileMe was a bit cheaper, though I do find the service quite convenient. I'm constantly using the sync feature and I do lots of file sharing as well. In a way, I've gotten so used to those features that I'm not so sure what I would do without them. The convenience almost feels like an expected part of moving forward, technology-wise.

Seamless sync

We use MobileMe (and previously .Mac) to sync calendars, contacts and some files across 4 macs in the office and 2 iPhones.

I wished it were possible to have multiple email accounts on one domain, like Gmail for companies, so all would be in one cloud with plenty of local copies and a Time Machine backup.

There may be other ways to go about it, but every time the renewal comes up I give in for convenience. We have also 4 Exchange 2003 accounts but these are used just for email as they don't sync without Entourage apparently.

Are there ways to improve on this setup?

Iphone OS updates are not technically free. You are paying for them via your monthly service payments.

The point was that Apple and Free in a sentence is possible, not a total impossibility.

MobileMe could be free as part of AppleCare or included as part of the Mac's purchase, so it wouldn't be "technically" free either.

Mobile me techs could not help me apple sux with support

I have an ipod, an ipad, an iphone, macbook and a imac and you think that apple would be willing to try to do more to help a customer like me than give me the run around. One day all of my calendars were synchronizing and one day they wouldn't and that was a nightmare for me in my business life. I got no help on the phone and it took me days and weeks to get this straightened out. I tried to get help from mobile me from the telephone and they and they would not help me. One day they promised to call me back at 6 pm the next day and then that day I got an email saying we don't give phone support so basically tough luck. I had to figure it out on my own. They gave me long and drawn out written out trials go thru that did not succeed and that took weeks. I screwed up my work and it made my life crazy. I figured this out on my own and I am passing it on to you. ALL you have to do is make sure the "cloud" has all your info , back up your account then delete your mobile me account from your computers or devices and reinstall it on all your devices and it all should work. Apple, I think you should treat customers, like me, a hell of a lot better than this!!!!

It's still too expensive! Considering you do get alot of disk space it's still quite expensive. I don't know if it will be FREE but lowering it to about $30 a year is reasonable.

>$30 is really not a good deal in my opinion.

20 gigs is a lot? What? It's not very much when you look at Google and some other companies now.

MobileMe - almost anything above free is too expensive for it.

I am on a trial and ten days into it I am considering cutting the trial short as I don't want to forget about the cancellation.

I don't use it, it's so slow and MobileMe does not support php and MySQL? What is wrong with these people?! Do they live in the nineties?!

My iPhone was located in a ten mile radius - nice... I think I'll just have to remember not to lose the handset or leave it in bars, especially German ones.

Hmm. Mine was located by find my iPhone literally on the side of my house where it was sitting.

I think a basic free version is very good. Say 2G is a fair amount. Dropbox can afford that, why can't Apple? Plus a free Mobileme account will add one more attractive feature integrated with mac, iphone, ipad, and also tire up costumers who have owned mac even tighter.

MobileMe is much more than storage space. My calendars all sync on four computers, my iPhone and now my iPad. When I modify or change a contact it modifies every where. The bookmarks in my browsers update on all machines. That alone is a huge plus.

I think that if the service went free it would be limited "lite" version.

Because your iPhone's GPS signal strength is totally being limited by MobileMe....

I'm moved off MM - saw some scary stuff on my account earlier this year. My calendar and contacts were showing empty in their cloud and I was afraid it would sync down to my iPhone and wipe everything out. Support could only muster up one email response every 2 days.

Move to google sync for email, contact, and calendar... It's free. Very happy with the service and I feel it is much more portable, if I decide to change platforms in the future.

That's where I'm at... I can't figure out why it isn't free already? Couldn't they just run some ads?

I hope this is true. I could do with something better than Dropbox to backup and sync my stuff.

To the OP, regarding the refund, there are two scenarios in my mind:

1. If MM as it is becomes entirely free, the logical/ethical thing to do would be to refund customers pro-rated for how many months they've used vs what they paid for.

2. If MM only becomes partially free, as in only 2gb of data and only some of the services, I'm not sure that they would do any kind of refund.

In general, I'm hoping that we will see a free MM. If not as a pure loss leader, then ad supported. Of ad supported, then have a pro version that you pay for that has no ads.

There can be different levels of pro versions, all ad free, and offerin different levels of storage, and perhaps even some advanced features.

As an iPhone owner though, I can't help but hope that a pro-level acct would be freely given to the likes of me and my ipad brethren ;-)

Cheers,

DCBass

MobileMe free?

Do you think one thing that Apple at WWDC might have up its sleeve is making MobileMe free for competition reason towards google and maybe they'll incorporate iAds in their so then apple can make this service free just like google has for android users. Ex: inorder to use an android you have to get google mail. Whats your thoughts?
