I don't know, I tried that CAT tool with a BlueTooth Dongle, all I have to say are two words, like others have said: KERNEL PANICS...

Have a CCC backup ready...

Let me guess, you are using an older mac ?

I'm currently resolving the kernel panics, pease try the newst beta here.

dont know what you've read but... THE BT DONGLE ISNT SUPPORTED

They are ! Should be working on all versions (including sierra) too :)

Could anyone please tell me which internal airport card I need in my late 2009 iMac? A link to one would be greatly appreciated.

OK Cool thanks I am going to give it another whirl... but I have one question. 10.11.6 is around the corner, not to mention 10.12. I heard CAT is working with 10.12 beta already.

My question tho is what do you do when you update from 10.11.5 to 10.11.6, or even to 10.12 GM. Do you un-install CAT first? Then update? Or will updating break things...

Thanks for info...

Running 10.11.5 on a MacBook Pro late 2011 and trying to use a bluetooth dongle and the beta isn't recognizing it. This is a fresh install of Continuity and I've followed the instructions to remove and reinsert the dongle. Let me know what info I can give you to help figure out how to get it working. The dongle is the GMYLE one that is recommended.

Thanks for the help.

Removed CAT while on 10.11.5
Update to 10.11.6 (via combo installer)
Reinstall newest version of CAT (v2.3)
Reboot

CAT is working flawlessly. Handoff/AirDrop are all good. Many thanks again @sysfloat for keeping this alive

FINALLY! AirDrop with my 2011 to my iPhone 6 Plus!, and continuity!

--EDIT

Oh I waited till 10.11.6 because I figured this would be the last update for El Cap.

Plus I am not moving to Sierra till March 2017, 10.12.3-ish

--EDIT 2

One day later update to Little Snitch breaks it :(

--EDIT 3

Final roundup for those interested:

Waited for 10.11.6, backed up using CCC
Installed CAT, viola worked.
Next day Little Snitch asked for updating
Updated LS and the result: WiFi Hardware not installed error.
Disabled SIP (to re-install CAT) and WiFi Hardware went away, wifi there.
Went to CAT it said everything was fine.
I didn't want run without SIP.
So I uninstalled CAT, reboot
Reinstalled CAT (with new LS there), didn't show Cont. in Sys->General
I restored from CCC backup, went to Starbucks.
Came home, All is good.
Re-installed Little Snitch Update since CCC overwrote with old.
WiFi hardware is intact after LS.

Now I could try and install CAT again, but... it's not worth it at this point
I really want AirDrop, because taking a picture on an iPhone and waiting
for iCloud photos to update is a HORRIBLE WAIT.

But when I get my new MacBook Pro (delayed/Late 2016), my MBP17-2011
will be put in the Projector room for storage/backup/role-playing fun...
and the nMBPr will have AirDrop with iPhones...

Is it normal for BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX to warm up? Parts of the board such as the connector on the chip going to the MLB is warmer than the 2.1 card it replaced

I replaced my bluetooth / wifi card with this one BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX I also copied the io80211family.kext from another system, but now my bluetooth card isn't detected from the BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX. My wifi shows up properly.

Is there another file I need to modify to see the bluetooth? i.e. a driver I need to copy over?

Thanks

Run the CAT tool. That modifies the files for you. No need to do it manually.

Running the cat tool returns no active air card was detected.

So I need to modify the driver manually to get the Mac to recognize the air card then run cat to add continuity.

I'm running cat v. 2.3 and macOS Sierra beta 5.

Actually you should reinstall the OS to return it to it's normal working state, then run the CAT tool.

You also might want to post in the correct thread, as this is the CAT for El Capitan. Sierra has it's own thread. Also take in mind Sierra is in beta so YMMV.

Hello everyone

I'm running 10.11.6 on my Macbook Pro 15" Mid 2009, I've tried both latest version and beta of the CAT tool with the GMYLE BT. The tool doesn't give me any error but at the reboot I have the KERNEL PANIC error.

I've also tried on 10.11.5 and macOS Sierra public beta 4 and I got the same error.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you in advance

ok it seems that I succeeded enabling Continuity without Kernel Error on my MBP 15" mid 2009 on 10.11.6 with GMYLE dongle.

Today I will perform a clean installation of 10.11.6 and try again just to be sure.

Edited to add: CAT is now working. The latest sysfloat CAT can be found here.

Hi,

I read on the github page that I can use this tool with my MacBook Pro (Early 2008) if I replace the AirPort as seen below

"MacBook Pro early 2008 (15" only) Yes, new wireless card BCM94360CD + adapter Yes"

But when I look up BCM94360CD, it looks to big to fit in the MacBook slot.

Is this what I need?

Could somebody with direct experience with this upgrade help me?

Thanks

Hello, sorry for my English . How do you actually work?

I successfully enabled Continuity but it was not working.

It only worked on macOS Sierra. At the end I gave up as the system was unstable.

I will wait for the new MBP

You could get the mCard 2 from QuickerTek.
http://www.quickertek.com/manuals/CardCompatibilityChart.pdf

Your A1260 MBP 15" is listed in the compatibility matrix.

I put one of these in my A1261 (17", same year). Works great. Have BLE 4.0 and 802.11AC (getting over 500Mb/s wifi).

You should familiarize yourself with the replacement procedure on ifixit to make sure you're comfortable doing this type of work to your MBP. If not, maybe get a local Mac repair shop to do it for you.

Help please! I had laid out for a couple of updates. Currently running El Cap 10.11.6. I have the CAX card installed. Today I felt compelled to try CAT again. Booted into recovery, Disabled SIP, and rebooted. Ran CAT when it popped asking if I wanted it to run - think it was 2.2.3. Went through steps, said all ok. However, when rebooted got stuck in boot loop. Wound up going back into recovery and am now having to do a time machine restore. Any idea what went wrong?, or what I need to different (other than getting newer CAT?)

If your TM restore has the CAT installation:

Disable Continuity via CAT and reboot

Run the OS update

Rerun CAT

I have done this with every update and have not had any problems.

Simon - thanks. I had updated to El Cap 10.11.6 several weeks ago, and had not disabled sip or reactivated CAT since then. I have never had this problem before. Kind of got me gun shy now.

I actually forgot to disable Continuity before the security update which just reverted to the original kexts. After I ran CAT, all is well. My previously mentioned procedure to update has always worked for me so if you follow that, you shouldn't have any probs. Just make sure to have a backup just in case. I actually use CCC to make a working bootable clone before any updates/mods.
