Slow boot only happens at cold boot, not when you already booted and restart the machine

I know. And I cold boot my machine every morning. I can't remove little snitch anyways because I need it. I'm reinstalling either way because I'm having other issues too.

So why do you tell Little Snitch is not causing the slow boot for you? It's causing it for everyone including you, at cold boot. This is what we are talking about here.

Because I have had it when without little snitch on another volume.

Then that’s another problem. If you have ssd+apfs and you get slow boot after update backup to time machine and restore to the ssd. That cures the slow boot.

Guys.. is there any real solution? I timed my boot today with 4 minutes on iMacPro. And yes I have FV enabled because I need it in case of burglary in my office rooms.

Mojave on my MacBook Pro but seems really slow to boot, like 3 times longer. Theres also some long pauses in some system preference panes. Has anyone else discovered this or should I send Apple feedback?

[doublepost=1543073513][/doublepost]My MacBook Air is slow to boot after updating to Mojave also. After updating to Version 10.14.1 the boot up is faster, but still slower than normal.

Is anyone else having the boot delay when TRIM is turned on, with a third party SSD? The same thing was happening with High Sierra. Bar moves rapidly at first, gets 2/3 of the way, pauses for 15-20 secs, quickly finishes. With TRIM disabled, booting is fast. Has anyone found a solution (other than converting the disk to HFS+, which seems a bit drastic)?

I updated to Mojave due to vague reports that it had fixed this bug. Was worth a shot; in any case Mojave seems OK. Am liking Stacks, though Dark Mode looks pretty ugly (surprisingly). I also have a weird bug where the Dock doesn't appear for a while post-boot (unless I fiddle with it's settings in System Preferences).

This is on a 2009 Mac Pro 4.1 > 5.1 with a 1TB Samsung 850 EVO SSD.

APFS is here to stay so I'm leaving HFS+ behind... The slow boot was worse in High Sierra but it's still present in Mojave, although there's been an improvement. FWIW, I don't boot my Mac that often so I can definitely live with this ; I like Mojave's performance in general so this is a very minor issue for me. With High Sierra I somehow considered this a big deal, not anymore.

(Besides, between High Sierra and Mojave I upgraded my CPUs so everything's faster now anyway :D)

I agree APFS is the future.

Did you get x5680s? I'm thinking of getting the same. What CPUs did you have before?

Would consider going NVMe if that solves the boot pause issue.

The original CPUs were the 2.4, yes I got 2 x5680s for about $100 on ebay. At first I got the GPU for Mojave, but then I thought let's give this puppy another boost... ;) As this is bit OT, I can give you more details about the purchase via PM if you want.

I know on my iMac 2015 27 if I update to Mojave. It has done this on both .0 and .1 after a reboot and it’s been on the rebooted again it goes to the Apple logo and never goes beyond that with my high Sierra backup on my usb3.0 t3 drive it boots fine it did find on the hardware test my Apple ram was bad supposedly and thats with Mojave’s on the main drive. It is a 1tb fusion it that makes a difference

I solved the issue by restoring Mojave from a TM backup, as suggested by someone on these forums.

I'm still running High Sierra on my Apple branded internal SSDs in my Macs, but I have a 2TB SanDisk Extreme USB external SSD with Mojave on it. I actually used CCC to clone my internal to the external, and then I applied the Mojave update on the external. I wanted to do this to see if there would be problems, so I could decided if I wanted to then install Mojave on my internal SSD. Like others have reported here, I too have found very long boot times. But unlike what others have reported, I am hearing TWO startup chimes and two progress bars before I finally get to the desktop. And on my late 2015 5K iMac, the first startup chime is full volume, full bass, and then I see a progress bar, and 60% of the way through it seems to restart again, and I hear a second startup Chime, only this time the sound is quieter and almost no bass (almost like a firmware update), and then I see another progress bar, and finally it boots to the Desktop. Am I alone in experiencing this? I actually started a new thread on that topic in Apple's discussion forum but not a single person gave me the courtesy of a reply so I Googled, found this thread, and decided to post here. Thanks.

"I am hearing TWO startup chimes and two progress bars before I finally get to the desktop."

what Apple product do you own? are you running 10.14.2?

Late 2015 5K iMac top end model with 32GB RAM and 1TB internal Apple SSD. Yes, I'm running 10.14.2, but installed on an external SanDisk Extreme USB SSD 2TB drive. All other details already described in my previous post. Thanks.
