Yes the TESTING versions are out- probably by this point production-level versions- but it doesn't matter, because these are still just testing chips, not full scale production and release. Until Intel releases it and you have your supply line you can't have the system.

What's the point of releasing test models if you change the chips? It seems more realistic to me that Intel have their finalised Meroms at the moment, and completed work on Merom before Conroe or Woodcrest. The only reason they chose to release these chips in this order is to make more money.

They can't release all three at once because they need time to manufacture thousands of chips before they release them, hence the month gap.
Releasing Merom in June would have been a bad idea, as Yonah is still new, and their Xeon and Pentium lines are in dire straits (a damn good band that).

Therefore they sit on their designs for Merom, and release Woodcrest first, to win back the "Mass SMP" (to differentiate between multi proc. + core and only dual core SMP) server market. Then Conroe because Pentium is so old. (Damn I hate the name Pentium. I'm fine with Intel transition, but I am NOT buying a Pentium Mac!)

My sources for this? Many months of lurking at this site. So Mac Rumors itself.

Sorry if this "forceful conversation" between Silentwave and myself is off topic.

WWDC
MacPro (Woodcrest)
MacBook Pro (Merom)
iMac (Merom)
Leopard announced for Jan. 2007

Paris
Mac Mini (DVR, Merom, GMA965)
MacBook Mini/Nano (10" Touch screen, Core Solo or Duo)
Wireless Mighty Mouse
iPod (4" touch widescreen, 60gb ad 80gb)

November
MacBook (Merom, GMA965)

Add wireless to the iPod, a new Airport Express with 802.11n, a new wireless megapixel iSight for pros and a wireless GPS for Macs - and it would be a rockin second half of the year ;)

Honestly I switched because I realized a computer isn't about the silicon inside it, but the operating system and applications that drive it.

I hope they spend the majority of their time demoing OS X 10.5 and spend maybe 10 minutes at the end to introduce the new power mac's and that's it.

call me weird but that's what I REALLY want to see

At WWDC I'm expecting a preview of Leopard and a Mac Pro that will make me pee my pants. I am kinda getting annoyed that the iMac's and MBP's have gone this long without a significant processor update, the iMac's especially, they have remained untouched since January if I'm correct.

More room for hard drives (4 would be nice)

I don't think we will see much.

A demo of Leopard.
A new Cinema Display. [Built in iSight?]
Mac Pro introduction.

maybemaybemaybe.

An upgrade to the iMac + Macbook Pro Processors.
That spreadsheet addition to iWork
Office for Mac UB.

As for everyone else wanting a GPU in a 13'' Macbook.
That won’t happen.
Apple divided the laptops, consumer, and pro for a reason.

Won't happen. Steve will narrow the timeframe somewhat, but we won't see a bona fide ship date until MWSF, in my opinion.

Everyone else seems to think Leopard will ship at MWSF, do you guys think that is plausible?

Software:
Leopard Preview. Will be interesting to see, what they really plan for that.

Hardware:
The successor of the Power Macs. It would be nice to offer two different sets of models. One with the expandability of the current G5s and maybe similar CPUs as in the iMacs. With the intel CPUs a significantly smaller form factor should be possible. Then there should be a second line, which is more work station like, the Mac Pro, with a Set of two dual core cpus and a much better expandability than the G5. However, I guess we end up with one Mac Pro line somewhere inbetween these two.

Urgh, today's the 6th, exactly 1 more month to go!

What I hope to see by Macworld Expo
1) MBP with Core 2 goodness!
2) Mac Mini with Duo across the board and onboard x3000!

That's all, Leopard can suck for all I care :p

Quick question. When Tiger was announced and previewed, what was the time lag between that keynote and release date?

Btw it would be really cool if Apple announced some sort of parallels-like integration with windows or even better the thing where you can run Windows Apps natively and then have someone from MS there as an official partner. Why wouldn't Microsoft like this? It's a new market of windows buyers who will buy windows software. They may be competiting with Apple over the Ipod, but MS is good at having one division be mortal enemies while another being complete allies (see Mac Office MS division).

Going by that would it mean that Leopard will be out at June '07, possibly WWDC 07?

Sounds a bit late to me.

What I'd hope not to see is Apple doing a rush job on this, and have Leopard release a lot worse off than Tiger was at release.
