how i solved this issue with ML Wi-Fi

I had this same issue after upgrading from Lion to ML.

Here is what solved this for me:

1. I checked my router to confirm the wireless setup configuration for my network (for me it's WPA2 Personal)

2. I opened System Preferences > Network > Selected Wi-Fi Service > clicked Advanced

3. I deleted my primary Wi-Fi connection, and re-added it (moved it to the top)

Since doing this I have not had any issues staying connected, or reconnecting after sleep, restart, etc.

After having issues for weeks losing my connection sometimes several times an hour I CAN CONFIRM that after upgrading to 10.8.1 I've not had the issue even once in almost 24 hours.

I also tryed every suggested solution, and altough some solutions seems to work, in the long run, I kept problems. Untill I installed the old kext (drivers) from Leopard for the wifi drivers. Since then no problems at all.
The kext-utility savely backups our current kext-files, and replaces them with the Leopard one.
More info and the utility:

Thanks I have to try that. I continue to have wifi issues in 10.8.2 as well. The connection sometimes becomes unresponsive until the internet stops altogether. The only thing that helps is to "renew DHCP lease" in network settings->advanced->TCP/IP. But this works only temporarily, and leaves me to believe that this is a routing-related problem. I have 2 routers on the same network, but operating on different channels with one router in access-point only settings. The wifi tends to work fine over at parents' house where there's only 1 router.

Possible Fix to Wifi Mountain Lion

I tried all the tips imaginable.
The only solution was to set the channel on the wireless router on channel 11.
It seems to me, the Mountain Lion has a problem when the channel the router is in automatic, then every time the channel is changed, the connection of the wifi card of Macbook drops.
I hope that helps.

A solution to this wireless problem

Ok, its not a permanent fix, but this process has been working for me for weeks. About half the time I try and access the internet I have no connection.

Here is the process I use: System preferences>network>assist me>diagnostics>select my location>continue.

95% of the time, I connect. If I don't, I run through this process again -- and it connects.

Problem lies with encryption

Hi everyone - refreshing to read this all as I am having VERY similar issues.

I tether from my Android device and I thought this was the problem. It's not.
I installed a fresh copy of Mountain Lion having formatted my harddrive. Here's the interesting part though.. If I connect to a network without encryption (WEP/WPA) so it is OPEN, it works perfectly. try it! However, this is not ideal at all. When I use WPA2, it has exactly the same symptoms as everyone else is saying.

I will try a few solutions and report back.

(as always , this forum is more helpful than the official Apple ones).

Havr had problems with the wired connection not connecting at all and the wireless dropping after a while.

If 10.8.3 does not solve this when I'll be reverting back to Lion.

Simple

All the effort and postings are always appreciated, but if it was one of the technical answers listed here Apple would also have detailed it by now. Sometimes you guys over complicate the troubleshooting side of IT ... first rule of troubleshooting keep it simple / think simple ;-) The answer to the wifi issue ... quit iTunes ... yup simple as that ... dont know why, but it works and has done for me and all my Mac friends.

First thing to do with any issue is to stop everything else apart from the software with the issue. Applied this simple logic and didnt have a wifi issue. So i then started other software I use on a regular basis one at a time ... and found that only with Itunes I get the wifi issue.

Enjoy ;-)

FIX! At least for me.

So, I read this entire forum and tried everything and nothing worked for me.
I am not having trouble staying connected to the internet, just trouble with reconnecting to my network upon awakening.

Actually I did not reset my PRAM, I thought it was useless if everyone kept saying it was a temporary fix.

But I did solve my problem! Easiest thing ever actually.

The only thing I did was change my WIFI Network Name. I figured maybe something was up, and for sure something was...
I guess for some odd reason the network was having trouble with my network name (SSID).

Hope this helps someone.

Hi all,

After two days of Mountain Lion killing my productivity by dropping the wi-fi connection every minute or so, I found a solution that works in my environment. [2011 Mac Mini, Netgear Dual Band N300 Router]

Just for reference, like some others, I had no issues with wi-fi under Lion. After installing ML, my connection became unusable. I did try the 'constantly ping google solution', which sort of worked. It kept my connection much longer, but using the internet was still erratic and slow. I also tried troutspinner's 'Delete the passwords from Keychain solution', but unfortunately, no luck for me there.

What did bring my connection back to normal was this:

In my router's configuration page, I changed the wireless network channel from 'auto' to 7.

That's it. After saving the settings, things have been solid as a rock. Don't know the why or how of it all, but for me, it worked perfectly.

Frustrating to have an issue like this slip through the cracks in ML, but I'm just glad to be back up and running. Hopefully this might work for others, too.

Excellent - I was struggling with dropouts for months now since getting ML and I could find nothing that would fix it for long. Unplugging the router then re-powering was the only thing that helped but it was short term. Sorry to say but Apple was useless. I called the 2x and talked each time for an hour. They were very patient and tried everything under the sun but nothing worked even with the supervisor's knowledge.

Finally I tried switching from auto to #7 on my routers config - by candyapplekid and it's working!! Thanks a million !!
