Is this an issue mostly with just MBP M1? Haven't experienced it with MBA M1. If so, interesting since the two are nearly identical except for touch bar so I wonder if that's conflicting in some way.
I haven’t read of MBA users with this problem yet, so I think it’s a MPB issue

In this thread people have reported the issue on m1 mini and intel macs. What’s the common component? Big Sur.

logically speaking, based on the symptoms described by posters, this can only be a software issue. This logic is backed up by reports of people having the issue on machines without dedicated ‘mouse’ hardware, I.e desktops

I can understand your logic, what you’re saying is that even if I brought my mac to assistance and they replaced it with a new one, I could have the same exact problem, ending up losing my head over and over again
Is that correct ?

... any news on the locked cursor? Will Apple be aware of this problem? We all believe by now that it is Software in nature!

I made another discovery !! The cursor is unlocked only if in Accessibility we increase its size to the maximum! Another mystery ...

Agree, this certainly sounds like a software problem. Heavens, there are many in Big Sur. (The Announce Alerts voice is STILL wrong, as it has been since early Catalina)

I wiped my MBP and reinstalled 11.2 and haven't had cursor problem since. I'm suspicious that updates introduced some problems, but no real evidence.

Another quick workaround that works for my M1 MBP 8/512 so far:
1. Use hot corners (settings > desktop and screen saver > screen saver) to make one of the corners "start screen saver"
2. Each time the disappearing cursor happens, activate the screen saver by moving the cursor to that corner
3. Move the mouse again to stop the screen saver
4. The cursor should reappear

Hope it works for your M1, too.

Worked perfect for me, thanks !

Hi Guys, I'm from Germany Ingolstadt. I have the same problem with my MacBook. I bought in January this year my first MacBook Pro M1 and after 1 Day I detected the curser problem while starting the MacBook in the morning. after 3 days I sent the Macbook back and bought a new one (with the hope that the bug will disappear). DISAPPOINTMENT! The same Issue on the NEW DEVICE! I also reported this to apple and hope they will find a solution. They told me I'am the only one with this issue (strange).

Please let us keep in touch, so if one of you get a solution, we can share for everyone with the same problem..

I've been noticing that my cursor disappears sometimes after I exit from a full screen YouTube video. I make it come back by moving the cursor and trying to click on the menu bar on the very top of the screen.

Hertzlichen Gruß! Did you restore from a TM Backup on the new MacBook? I would use MaGF's work-a-round above, until 11.3. The only other solution is to reinstall. I erased my MBP's drive, installed 11.2 from Recovery Mode, and have not had the problem since.

Because its most probably a software glitch. If it is software - exchange will not help.

P.S. I haven’t seen this issue for a few weeks now with all the updates installed, however, I am still not convinced it will not appear out of blue again at some point.

If I do not move the cursor too fast for the first 5 seconds after logging in, the cursor doesn't freeze. Anyway, I think it's a shame that we pay so much money for a laptop and have to accept such mistakes. I hope it will be completely fixed soon.

P.S. I kind of think I have seen some mouse cursor issues with virual machines running on macOS. Maybe it is somehow possibly interconnected but maybe it is just my imagination : )

If you google ‘macOS virtual machine cursor dissapears’ or something sinilar - there seem to be plenty results.

Yes, I've seen that too, but I figured it was parallels problem.

Hi!

I started to get some wierd cursor issues today with M1 Pro and BS 11.1.

Sometimes randomly when I start / restart the mac visual mouse cursor dissapears / freezes on startup / login screen (I use trackpad only). Mouse function does not freeze actually, and I can log in and click or move around the screen (I just do not see the actual cursor which stays frozen in some location)...

BS 11.1 update was installed when it was realeased, however I started to notice this issue only today.

Anyone experiencimg something similar?
Same here sometimes on restart. Once it required a shutdown and start, restart did not solve it.
Usually, though, I get the disappearing cursor while using the MBP. Usually command-tab to another app and back will fix it.

Hi!
I have the same problem. I called the Apple to solve the problem in many ways but nothing. Now my macbook pro 13 M1 is in the Assistance but I don’t know if they can resolve the problem. Keep in touch

Regarding the problem, I am currently in contact with Apple Support. After I have already received a new exchange device and the problem occurs again, I assume that it is a software problem. What amazes me is that Apple Support tells me that I'm the only one reporting this error? Therefore, please all report the bug so that the bug can hopefully be fixed with the next software update. As soon as I receive new information, I will share it with you.

I think the problem usually takes place when we try to move the mouse cursor as soon as the desktop screen comes up. Probably waiting for two or three seconds to let the MacOS - especially the menu bar - load itself fully might keep the problem from showing up.
