Regarding the problem, I am currently in contact with Apple Support. After I have already received a new exchange device and the problem occurs again, I assume that it is a software problem. What amazes me is that Apple Support tells me that I'm the only one reporting this error? Therefore, please all report the bug so that the bug can hopefully be fixed with the next software update. As soon as I receive new information, I will share it with you.
You can direct them / the support to this thread as well

Think it's the software issue. I had this same exact issue but after having the latest BS installed. this issue has been fixed for me.

Is this an issue mostly with just MBP M1? Haven't experienced it with MBA M1. If so, interesting since the two are nearly identical except for touch bar so I wonder if that's conflicting in some way.
Same issue on my M1 Air. Unplugging my wired Logitech trackball, waiting a good five minutes, replugging, usually fixes it. While this trackball doesnt work, sometimes the trackpad also does not work. Then iI am really stuck.

I had this issue on my first MacBook Pro, then my replacement didn't have any issues for about two months (I got it mid January). I changed my Apple ID password 3 days ago and now today my MacBook Pro started having this stupid cursor problem again. Changing the cursor size to near maximum improved the problem but didn't fix it, when the mouse changes icons (like when hovering over text) it still freezes.

Edit: I talked to apple support and they made me enter safe mode and then after that they made me go to MacOS recovery and do "First Aid" in Disk Utility on Data, Macintosh HD, Container disk3 and APPLE SSD and that fixed it. Well hopefully for myself it fixed it permanently.

I haven’t read of MBA users with this problem yet, so I think it’s a MPB issue
I've experienced this issue on my M1 MacBook Air, had it for about a week now. It's resolved (until next time) by moving the invisible cursor up to the Menu bar and clicking, or by shutting and reopening the lid.

It just got quite a lot more annoying for me on 11.2.3.

On this version I suddenly loose mouse on desktop after startup. Previously it happened only in login screen (where password is needed).

Maybe MacRumors could create a post on the front page as well. They sometimes report / reflect issues users have identified in forums.

Bought the MacBook Pro 13" M1 five days ago. Have had the frozen cursor problem recur. Apple support solved the problem by suggesting starting in safe mode; but, I don't want to use this workaround forever. Tried to find out from Support if this is a hardware or software error - but they could not or would not say. If Apple had stated this is a software error for which a fix will be released I would have waited. But since Apple did not / could not say I am now sending the device back and getting a replacement. And I will keep on returning devices if the problem recurs on the next device / is not fixed. The device did not cost peanuts!

I had the same thing, a replacement will not help. I just adapted to not moving the cursor while startup. After you are logged in and waited 10 Seconds you can safely use it again and it won’t freeze. For some reason the problem completely went away after a month or two of doing that. No reset, no safemode, just used it regularly. It might also get fixed with the new MacOS Version next week!

11.3 seems to have resolved this, iv tried recreating the issue and I have failed each time!

Would be interesting to see if others still see this happen on 11.3.

This has always happened to me on my Macs, but lately it’s been a lot worse in Big Sur. That and the disappearing dock when using sidecar are the 2 most annoying quirks/bugs of macOS.
Yeah pretty sure this has been a thing for me since LION.

You can get it back by three finger swiping to a different desktop and back.

Annoying, not sure what causes it, maybe some particular software i have installed.

Hello, I have the same problem. Did you find a solution? I currently have macOS 11.4 installed. But the problem was not solved.

I had all the cursor issues and the flashing magenta screen and what not with my MBA. Took it to the Apple store and they did the hardware check. All good. It had some odd behavior but worked. Did all the jazz with safe mode, reloading system software. Updates too. Sometimes it changed things, but never fixed it. Putting it to sleep made it non-functional till I restarted so I developed a routine of using it in the morning and shutting it down.

Here's an odd clue. I use the Dvorak keyboard. When I started it up, it asked for my password in the US keyboard which it doesn't do when its working normally.

So eventually I contacted Apple and they offered to change it out. Mail or at a store? I was anxious so I took it to the store. When I got there it worked perfectly. Man, I was deflated.

I went on my way and it worked after that, although fo a while it asked for my password with the US keyboard, but now everything seems ok. It took me a while to not fear every time I woke it up.

hi..i have a mbp 2020 m1 bs 11.5.1 and the page freeze in safari started on amazon.com only, but now is everywhere! apple is in denial apparently. i just turned off firevault to see if that helps...someone had luck with that. but i want to try your suggestion, but need a little clarification, please...ok so i log-in with my user name and password, then just wait for 10 seconds before doing anything....just do nothing and wait for 10 seconds? and that fixes it? i am going to do that right now and write me back if that's incorrect, ok? thx!

You are right.

The Problem completely went away after a couple of weeks when I did it and never came back. I though they might have fixed it with an update.

Mine is back again. Behaviors are never exactly the same. Not that it worked before, but I'm operating in safe mode and it seems to be ok. Disheartening. My expectation is it'll work fine for a while and then out of the blue it'll have issues again.

I can always tell it stopped working because the keyboard lights will go out and trackpad will also be non-functional. Could it be some controller chip is not up to snuff? I could see Apple in the bind of having X million laptops that would need to be changed out and trying to fake their way through it.

Apple will give you a new one, they exchanged mine in no time after I reported the issue. Try that.

Mine worked, then after having to reset it once (cuz I am an idiot) it did. the cursor thing again. That disappeared though after some weeks/updates.
