There is a trick to re-buy a movie you already own: on the iTunes store page of the movie, click the arrow next to the "Play" button and select "gift this movie". Enter your own email address and check out. Then redeem the code you receive.

But I suggest to wait for further clarification. 4K playback has been quite inconsistent even without Movies Anywhere. It could be just a glitch.

This is NOT good advice unless you want to re-buy a movie you already own.

I don’t know about any body else but I’m definitely seeing some syncing issues.

I redeemed a code in Sony UV. It took about 1hr to appear in Vudu, I checked in vudu and the movie has a Movies Anywhere logo on it but it has failed to appear in Movies Anywhere.

I’m now going on 3 hours or so and still not appeared in Movies Anywhere.

Ha, EXACT same thing happened to me. I got Girl With the Dragon Tattoo redeemed on UV, it took forever to show up on VUDU, and now it has yet to leave VUDU into MA or iTunes. I’m gonna wait a week for things to settle down and disconnect and reconnect all my accounts to force a resync. I would hate to be their sysadmin right now

Interstellar and Arrival won't because they are Paramount.

Days of Future Past should. Give it some time. You may have to unlink/relink Amazon (but I wouldn't do that now - let things settle down).

I ended up unlinking and relinking my amazon account and x-men popped up. Thanks.

Can anyone else confirm they have the same issue? iTunes movies are showing up in my Vudu library yet Vudu movies are not showing in my iTunes library.

I am having the same problem, none of my VUDU movies are porting over into iTunes. They did port over to Google Play and Amazon.

How do you activate the Apple TV app? I downloaded the app, and they gave me a code to activate the device but when I go to website, I don’t see any place to enter the code.

Sounds like only 4K HDR movies actually purchased or rented through iTunes will stream in real 4K if this post is correct. All those UV codes we entered would not give us real 4K.

Hi! That is indeed the conversation I had with a rep, though I really am holding off final judgement until I hear back from engineering. There’s just so much more going on that screams “glitch” instead of intentional, I’m waiting to get the final word

A quick guide to getting this working in the UK (and probably other non-US areas). I only have films in US iTunes and UltraViolet - none in Amazon or Google Play so I can't comment on those. Hope this helps!

You will need: A US iTunes account (see here) and a VPN or location selection service (I recommend TunnelBear - very easy to use and you get 500 MB free each month which is more than enough to set this up)

On a computer
  • Open iTunes and ensure you are logged in to your US iTunes account
  • launch your VPN/location service to make it look like you are in the US
  • If you have UV titles (and don't have a VUDU account) go to www.vudu.com and create an account. Then link this account to your UV account to enable your UV titles to show up in VUDU
  • Go to www.moviesanywhere.com and create an account - if you already have a Disney Movies Anywhere account I suggest you use the same e-mail address and the DMA account will be connected automatically (don't worry, you still get your free films)
  • Connect your VUDU account to the MA account (it will take you to the VUDU site to confirm)
  • Connect your iTunes account to the MA account (it will open iTunes to confirm - this is why you needed to be logged in to your US account in step 1)
  • Your libraries will now merge - for me this took <5 minutes for 60-70 films - you should also find the free 5 films adde to your account if you linked two or more services to Movies Anywhere
If you want access on iPhone, iPad or Apple TV
  • Ensure you are logged into the App/iTunes Store using your US account details (the option above 'aeroplane mode' in Settings on iPhone/iPad and Accounts in Settings on the Apple TV
  • Open the App store and download the Movies Anywhere App (there is no geolocation requirement so no need for a VPN on your device)
  • Once the App is installed open it - a code will be displayed on the screen (there is no geolocation requirement for running the app, but you will need your VPN/location service to link it to your account in the next step)
  • Go to www.moviesanywhere.com/link and follow the instructions (you should still be connected to your VPN/location service)
  • Once the code has been entered, the App should move forward to your library
  • You can now disconnect your VPN/location service
Using the Apple TV as an example - the Movies app should now have iTunes versions (incl UHD HDR) of all your digital movies harvested from UV, iTunes (US) and DMA (and any other store you linked). If you need to set your App/iTunes account back to your UK one (e.g. iPhone or iPad) then the Movies app will contain any UK account films you have bought and the Movies Anywhere app will contain all you UV and US-bought iTunes films (probably not UHD/HDR though - I don't have the quipment to check). The Movies Anywhere app does not need any geolocation trickery once linked. I am in the UK and am quite happily accessing my films via both the Movies App (US iTunes account signed in) and the Movies Anywhere app on my AppleTV 4.

Thanks for the info Kiran. But before I go through this, any idea when MA will be coming to the UK?

Based on VUDU and DMA - I would say never...

If it ever does arrive on these shores, you can just unlock your US iTunes account and link your UK itunes account and all your films would port over form MA to the UK iTunes account
[doublepost=1507883147][/doublepost]To those having issues with movies not showing up in iTunes, I found that if I looked up a movie I was waiting to port in the Apple Movies app (Apple TV) showed that I could play it - it was just the 'My Movies' section that hadn't updated properly.

Sorry, but Apple can’t move the goalposts in regards to 4K upgrades. If there is an HD title in your iTunes account that has a 4K version available, it should be upgraded for free, as per their own declaration.

Not at any point did they say that a digital code has to be redeemed in iTunes so it’s seen as an iTunes purchase and therefore can be upgraded. If there has then could someone point me to it please and I'll happily retract my comment.

I’d put money on a lot of people moving over to the Apple TV purely for this reason.

I have to believe that any HD film you have - whether it's ported or not from MA, will eventually be a 4K one.

Apple wouldn't want that type of negative publicity - especially after the positive reaction to them offering the whole HD to 4K free upgrade deal in the first place.

Apart from that, Movies Anywhere is awesome. So pleasing to see all those UV films now in my iTunes account. Still have a few that haven't ported over from MA but that seems to be happening for quite a number of people so happy to let things settle down.

If it ends up not being a glitch, it sure looks like a move by Apple to get people to move redeems/purchases over to iTunes. Sneaky! Although I’m not sure how Apple benefits from direct redeems which so far look like they do give the free upgrades.

Thanks for reaching out to Apple....and hopefully engineering can give some answers. Please post back when/if you hear from them.

So far in my testing, I have yet to have an HD port show in full 4K on iTunes. Best I've been able to reach is 2228x928 and often it's less. My 4K ports are a mixed bad still.....some play in full 4K, others that played in full 4K at one point yesterday don't anymore.

Tried that on my ATV3, iPhone, and iTunes on PC. No go. Even went as far as trying to purchase Wonder Woman, just not confirming it.

This (4K upgrade issue) has been discussed in other communities and what I'm hearing / reading is that what the Apple rep told the person above is correct. Apple had to do this to get the studios on board with with Movies Anywhere. My issue is that it's extremely deceptive because it shows 4K tags everywhere unless you know where to look (on the remote swipe down during playback and you will see HD on VUDU ported HDX titles). If this is the intent they need to remove the 4K tags and give you a way to purchase upgrades. Currently you can't without jumping through hoops.

I'm also holding out hope that it's a glitch but it's not looking good.

Completely deceptive! If they have the technology in place to send a different stream based on how you obtained the movie, then they have the technology to list what I actually own....not show what is available, which in this case is 4K. And if it's the case now where HD ports from MA won't give the 4K version, then they need to speak up. Otherwise it's just a sleezy practice to get more people to buy on iTunes.

I always had the impression that movie studios have more control over the content than Apple does. After all, they are the owners of intellectual property. Apple is just a merchant.

A merchant with over 800 million iTunes accounts pulls a lot of weight in any negotiations. Apple was probably one of the few companies that could even pull off the "free upgrades" to UHD. And they've started to change the entire industry for good - lower prices in Vudu for example. That's all good for the consumer. Movies Anywhere is good for the consumer as well. But I don't think for a minute that Apple (or any other merchant) isn't looking out for themselves....and they should. Apple/Google/Amazon probably all not super thrilled to support MA - have a feeling in this case Disney got enough big studios to push it through. But I'm sure Apple and the rest will do all they can to make sure you still stay in their platform.

To me it seems so far that Apple wanted to make everything super user friendly and blur the lines between HD and 4K. That's why you can't buy just an HD copy on iTunes today....they were basically saying, if you buy HD, you'll get the HIGHEST QUALITY AVAILABLE - no one else is doing that. Problem right now is.....there are exceptions to that with Movies Anywhere movies.

Let's wait for something "official" before jumping on Apple's back.

As mentioned, even before MA popped up yesterday, there have been issues regarding the 4K films in regards to them changing from HD to 4K so who knows what is actually going on.

I'm more concerned that iTunes still hasn't ported over films I redeemed last night on MA.

Well, going on 12hrs and still my Vudu movie thats Movies Anywhere compatible hasn't appeared in Movies Anywhere. Clearly the service isn't able to deliver what it promised right now.

Very interesting this MA thing. I'm loving that all my titles are showing up under iTunes now. I have a few movies that I had as "UHD" on Vudu that are showing up on my iPad as 4K titles in iTunes now. Not sure if they will play in 4K on my ATV's yet. The first 2 that I know weren't in iTunes yesterday were Wonder Woman and Baby Driver. They were both in my Vudu library as UHD and now they are in iTunes and seem to show 4K available.

The other thing that I can't figure out at all right now is 2 movies showed up in my recently purchased that I never purchased; Big Hero 6 and 2016 Ghostbusters...

Those were free movies for linking accounts in MA.

If you own the UHD versions in Vudu, they will play as 4K on the Apple TV. If you only own the HDX Vudu version, they will play in HD w/ HDR on the Apple TV, not 4K. Big Hero 6 and Ghostbusters 2016 were given away to people when they signed up for Movies Anywhere.

Can those who have iTunes connected check something for me? If I go into my iTunes account, the Movies Anywhere section.... disappeared. It used to let you disconnect it from in there, but now that whole thing is just straight gone. Normally wouldn’t be an issue, as it’s easy to reconnect, but Movies Anywhere thinks things are still good to go, says they’re nice and connected. I have movies not moving over and I suspect this is the issue, I can’t disconnect and reconnect.

For those for whom things have been going normally, does your iTunes account page still have a Movies Anywhere section in it?

Ah, good to know. I didn't notice that when I was signing up this morning. I don't seem to be having any issues so far. Seems I still have some movies in only iTunes or Vudu, but that is expected as not all the studios are on board yet.
