The PWA Teams web app video problem was almost in a fixed state yesterday. Just joing with back ground effects woud be black but after a minimize and maximize it was working fine. Late this afternoon it changed back to being broken again. Never ending saga with Teams PWA.
I use Edge and the backgrounds have always been working fine for me, so weird.

@MrGunny94 thats very odd i have 4 macs of different generations and different MACOS and the behaviour is the same on all. Completely indepent of apple silicon or intel, Montarey, BS, and 10.14. It did change before yesterday crash and the video is just black when you join. Change focus to chat or calendar and then change back it restores video. After yesterdays crash it was black again every time you changed focus. I wonder if this is a symptom of the Microsoft backend troubles....

Spoke too early. Just tried teams and with backgrounds enabled on the PWA Apple Silicon 2022, 2021, 2017 intel and 2015 intel all with different versions of MACos all now have black video again. Does not matter which network they are connected to. Tried 3 different ones. Result is the same. Guess Microsoft just can not get it right on anything at present and to live with Mac being a second class citizen with no respect.

Heck I have been using the camera on the latest builds of Apple Silicon native on my M1 Pro and M1 and it’s just fine… there’s something fishy going on here lol

Great news!

Universal binary is now available in the Public Preview Channel meaning that there's now an official beta build of M1 Teams.

@MrGunny94 so your using the native teams client. My feedback is on teams web i.e https://teams.microsoft.com not working properly with backgrounds. Microsoft Tech community also has a problem that is evident but simply dismissed as it must be an edge issue by Microsoft. Happens on really old edge versions, chrome, brave all chromium based browsers. Of course safari that I have does not support back ground effects but maybe if I change the user agent to Edge it will. I'll try it on 12.5 intel.

Is there a way to get on the preview build with Teams app settings?

EDIT: Figured it out. 3 dots -> About -> Developer Preview

Well trying to run Teams PWA under safari with an edge user agent does not work. I wish Microsoft would put in the 30 min effort to try and fix it. Started debugging it myself. The background effects appear to be delivered by babylon.js version 4.2.0 which is really old.

I use the Web Teams as well especially for external people to my organisation and it works. However this bug happened to me a couple of weeks ago and all of the sudden disappeared.. I wish I could help you on this but I can't, it stopped working and then all of the sudden started working. This week is not working for me to use the background effects on the web version..

Under no circumstances will I install rosetta. So why is it asking to be installed on what's supposed to be a Native Arm/M1 version of Teams?

Installer possibly and the core audio driver is still Intel.
Understood. I do not have much evidence to support this claim, but I believe some of the MBP Popping/Cracking noises are associated with either this and/or rosetta being installed. One of the major reasons I am not installing it.

PWA Teams on Edge works great, no issues here for now but looking forward to the one day fully native client to include whatever audio interfaces they need...

Hmm, I don't see that in Teams on my Mac. I'm now on the 20352 Preview build downloaded manually. Does anyone know whether it will automatically update when there's a new preview build and I check for updates?

Cross posting: Just for those that may be a little tepid about this, just downloaded and used the beta all day on my M2 Air - and has worked like a charm. This is the last app that I use daily that was not upgraded to Universal, so very pleased to have this.

Sometimes the installer itself isn't M1 optimized, even if the actual program is.

Also, don't be too sure about Rosetta. You may get it whether you want it or not. Twice now, Rosetta installed itself without me being asked. At least I never got a question box, then when I did install an Intel version of an app (expecting it to ask to install Rosetta), it just ran...Rosetta was obviously already installed. But the Rosetta question box ever popped up. I think it can install itself in some circumstances, but I'm not sure. Maybe an app' s background process is still Intel based and MacOS installed Rosetta in the background? I don't know...

New version looks good in terms of memory, however I'm having tons of CPU usage when in calls with web cam on my M1 Pro with the latest build.

Developer Preview version (Universal version) has been working very well with quite a few meetings this week. Haven't discovered a bug yet. Currently in a meeting and my Mac Studio is reporting 23.7% CPU utilization by the Teams renderer (9.2% by GPU). Not sure how that compares to the Intel version.

I have been using the PWA version on Edge for a while and its pretty good. But I get a weird issue with Edge where CPU usage is low for the first 30m - 1hr, say 0.5% - 3%, then something happens randomly where Edge (Renderer) starts slowly creeping up in CPU usage, eventually settling pretty high around 20-50%, and staying there until I kill Edge and reopen.

SO Im looking forward to AS version of Teams as long as they fix the Intel Installer/Intel Audio driver thing and make that AS too.

Yeah there's some crazy bugs in there, there's also a audio issue as well where it starts popping during meetings more than 30 mins.

Honestly I don't have much faith they'll make this binary until WebView for Mac later this fall.

I'm currently using version 1.5.00.20110-E on my MBP 16' with M1 Pro. So far, I have zero issues with this build. Did multiple teams meetings and had zero issues. CPU usage was much better compared with previous explorer builds I tried. Used to consume 6-8% CPU constantly.

Were there slides being presented? I'm wondering why mine was consuming so much CPU resources. Granted it was quicker and much smoother than the Intel version.
