Steps to reproduce "strange list position behaviour" bug:

* from the left pane, select “Songs” or Playlists, that contains many songs enough to scroll
* from the “View” menu, select “as Songs”
* scroll down the list using “End” key
* then try scroll down the list using two fingers on the trackpad or mouse wheel
* and you will see that, even if the list was already scrolled down to the end when hitting the “End” key, the list goes back to the first lines and keeps scrolling down

This proves that the “list position that is currently displayed” is inconsistent between key operations (arrow keys, home/end/page up/page down, or typing the first few strings to select a song) and scrolling operations (mouse wheel, two finger scrolling, etc.)

Seems like this won’t happen when View “as Playlist” “as Artists” etc. This happens only when View “as Songs”.

Does Crossfade Songs not work anymore, did it ever? I have mine checked on and set to 12 seconds, and I've never once heard a song crossfade into the next.

Found an issue in meta tag editing. If you try to update the genre, it used to auto fill from the list as you typed, which makes sense, basic functionlity

now it just types, and if you use the menu itself, and click the one you want, it selects the next one...

View attachment 1883255
here im trying to type 'Heavy Metal', but in lower case, it should find the right genre and auto correct it to proper caps as im typing, but does nothing now

View attachment 1883258

i click Heavy Metal...

View attachment 1883259

aaaand it's Hip Hop
I was having a similar issue. Sometimes it pre-populates once I type the first word and a space (i.e. "Heavy ") then Metal would populate. Other times, that doesn't work either.
For individual song changes, I can just click on the Genre column field in Song View and pre-population does work there. But that's tedious for multiple songs or albums.

Just got a new MacBook Pro 14". I noticed that in the music app preferences/general, I cannot get the selection for automatic downloads to stay selected. If I select it, when I go out of preferences and back in, it is unselected. Only happening on my MacBook (Mac mini working fine). I've done a complete erase and reinstall (not for this issue specifically), and the problem still happens. On Monterey 12.0.1

Anyone else seeing this?

Anyone else get stuck and unable to search their library, with it always just searching apple music? I cant search my freaking music and it's driving me nuts

only way to get the Apple Music | Your Library toggle on the right back was killing the app completely

Yes, that works, too. I've just been used to having this built in Smart Folder functionality for many years. I haven't really tried any troubleshooting, yet, other than a reboot. I intend on reinstalling macOS 12.0.1 again when it's official, too. I've found plenty of other odd behaviors throughout the OS, so who knows.
I upgraded to Monterey yesterday and ran into the same issue. I generally use an app called "XLD" to convert my music files into AAC( Apple lossless ) format and automatically put the output files in the "automatically add..." folder so that Music automatically imports them.

I wonder if it's a bug or if Apple changed the location of that folder. I'll update this thread if/when I find anything out.

Update:
They moved the folder , for me it's now at:
~/Music/Music/Media.localized/Automatically Add to Music.localized

I’m convinced it’s an Automator ‘Smart Folders’ issue. I have a few Smart Folders setup to add to specific folders in my Photos App Library, like a Desktop Background folder and a Screenshots folder. I can just drag a photo to the Desktop Backgrounds folder and it adds to the folder that cycles thru for my Desktop Backgrounds. Or if I take a Screenshot, it gets added to my library right away so it gets synced to my iPhone or iPad.

Since moving to Monterey those folder actions have been hit or miss. It makes sense then to think one of Apple’s own Smart Folders could be screwed up, too. It might be possible to just create a new Smart Folder for the Music app, too. But I’m gonna wait it out.

I absolutely hate with a passion the music app on macOS.

it's completely broken and Apple does nothing to address the errors, is the web version any better?
The web version is extremely limited - for example, no Playlists (which means I won't use it).

I loved iTunes and "Soundjam before it became iTunes" and was a fanatic fan of iTunes for a long time - but at Catalina when they introduced "Music" - I quit the streaming side of Apple's Music offerings and switched to Spotify - and no regrets

Spotify has way more selection, better "new music options", huge classical music collection (was important to me), and fantasic playlist and syncing between IPP - iPhone and several mac's - and offline listening (Paid Version)

I still use Music (iTunes) for my purchased music and ripped CD's etc. but the artwork is a mess and it seems more focused on Streaming music and is not the app it used to be for managing my local music library ?

Here
My Music.app sidebar keeps default back to it's pre-set width which cuts off the names of some of my playlists. I keep readjusting it, but that doesn't seem to persist between app relaunches.

There are many things that do not persist. For example: which playlist folders you have open. (worked in iTunes)

This monterey version is even worse than Big Sur.

Music is terrible and Apple should be ashamed about they have neglected it.

In what way? Mostly, it seems the same, which isn't good.

2 things off the top of my head.

1) Genre does not populate as you start typing.

2) Editing multiple tracks in 'get info' moving from one track to another no longer selects the field you were editing

You are right though, mostly it is just as bad as before.

A general complaint of mine is that editing is very sluggish moving from track to track.

scrolling through the song lists is a nightmare
sync with phone should work every time, but it doesn't - I have a large music collection which I like to cycle through my phone and really it should not be difficult

Yesterday I was looking at the Big Sur change log for all releases and what I realised is that almost every release focused on improving the Podcasts app. I am saying this, as today HomePod 15.1.1 was also released with Podcast bug fixes.

I know that Apple doesn’t include all changes in the change log and we know they’re working on the Music app continuously, as we can see the version incremented in most macOS builds. Regardless, the state of the app is almost the same as it was two years ago. Many major bugs are still present and no new features were added (I don’t remember anything new than the live lyrics).

In that sense, it looks that the Podcast app takes a priority (although I assume two different teams work on the Podcast and the Music app). I am not sure why is that, but is is highly disappointing.

I appreciate threads like this - I use Music constantly on my Mac to organize my music collection of ripped and purchased files, and the Big Sur version is just fine for me. Since that is a large part of what I use my Mac for, it sure looks like I should stay there instead of upgrading to Monterey.

Not much difference between Big Sur and Montereys in term of the Music App - IMHO the Monterey version works better seems more polished and has no new issues - at least in my case use - which is managing my ripped and purchased music files and syncing to my iphone

I agree. Any changes to the Music app are probably 'Under the Hood' kind of updates as opposed to feature or front-facing changes. I've got a VERY large library (86,723 Tracks / 898.67 GB!) and for me, Catalina was SUPER slow & Buggy. And with a Library that size, you'd probably say I should expect that. When Big Sur was released (after the initial bugs & my switch to an M1 MBP), I couldn't scroll thru my Library under the Artists, Albums, Songs, or any other view without Beachballs and usually just a complete crash of the Music app. Once I got to macOS 11.6, though, Music was totally fine. I could scroll thru any of my categories pretty quickly without issue. And now on Monterey, things seem to be even quicker and more responsive. I've noticed Match has been matching almost 100% of the tracks I add to my library, too.
